Principles of Design describe the methods of arranging and assembling elements.Balance, Unity, Variety, Proportion, Rhythm

and Grids

Elements of Design are the graphic items that are the building blocks of all designLine, Shape, Mass, Texture and Color

Key Terms

Elements of Design: Lines, shapes, mass, texture, and color

Lines: Design elements that form the shape of an image

Shapes: Elementary forms that define specific areas of space

Mass: A measure of volume that adds definition to shapes in a visual presentation

Key Terms

Texture: A projection of emphasized structure or weight

Color: A visual sensation produced in the brain when the eye views various wavelengths of light

Color Wheel: Colors that can be used to generate secondary colors

Color Formation: Additive and subtractive systems that create secondary colors from primary colors

Red, Blue and Yellow

They are the building blocks used to create all other colors.

When two of the Primary colors are mixed together, a Secondary color is made.

Mixing the Primary and Secondary colors produces Tertiary colors.

Directly across from one another on the color wheel.

Complimentary colors create visual electricity.

The two colors on either side of the complimentary color.
