2016-2017 SEASON
DEAR FRIENDS, I’m thrilled to introduce our exciting 2016-2017 Season—our biggest season yet! What makes it so big? First, we’re launching an unprecedented two-year partnership with our friends at Olney Theatre Center to produce groundbreaking work in Montgomery County. The first such project, Angels in America, will be presented as part of “A Celebration of Tony Kushner” here in Bethesda and feature a phenomenal cast of some of our favorite actors. We also have a huge show-stopping musical, laugh-out-loud comedies, and stunning new works by American masters. Believe me when I say our 2016-2017 Season truly has something for everyone.
There is no better way to join the Round House family than to become a subscriber. You can find out more information about our season, including the amazing artists we have lined up, in the pages that follow. It’s a great season and I hope you can join us for all of it!
I look forward to seeing you at the theater soon.
Best,

Join us as we present the largest musical in Round House’s history! Set in the heat of the Civil Rights Movement, the Tony-nominated Caroline, Or Change follows a black maid working for a middle-class Jewish family in Louisiana. When a small amount of money goes missing, buried tensions threaten to rip two families—and the struggling Caroline—apart. Loosely based on Kushner’s provocative and personal story, Caroline features a virtuosic score from Jeanine Tesori (Tony Award for Best Original Score for Fun Home) that blends blues, gospel, and traditional Jewish melodies into a magical, show-stopping musical masterpiece.

Desperate to escape a career in espionage, up-and-coming playwright Aphra Behn just landed her first commission for a professional company—if she can deliver her play by dawn. But in a world of sex and spies, can Aphra save the life of King Charles II and launch her budding writing career all in one night? With echoes of Restoration comedy, this playful farce is a rush of madcap antics and rollicking intrigue.

In this solo show, late Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright August Wilson explores his days as a struggling young writer in Pittsburgh’s Hill District and how the neighborhood inspired his cycle of plays about the African-American experience. At times shockingly provocative and often hilariously funny, this theatrical memoir follows one man’s journey of self-discovery and what it means to be a black artist in America.

BY DIANA METZGERPRESENTED BY THE ROUND HOUSE TEEN PERFORMANCE COMPANY
It’s 2002. Take one beach house, four high school girls, and a week without parental supervision. Add (just a few) boys and (maybe some) booze. What’s the worst that could happen? From Diana Metzger comes a hilarious play about the D.C.-area tradition of Beach Week, and what happens when a group of high school graduates only has seven days left to come to grips with the rest of their lives.
The Round House Theatre Teen Performance Company is a pre-professional program for the next generation of theater artists. Company members work closely with experienced professional artists and practitioners as mentors. The program culminates in The Sarah Metzger Memorial Play which is directed, designed, stage managed, and performed by the Teen Performance Company.
