Compare your answers with the model answer.
The diagram shows the various stages involved in the making of plastic bottles and caps in a plastic bottling plant. Clearly, this is a complex procedure that involves a wide range of complicated machinery and many workers with different skill sets.
Initially, the raw materials have to be transported from the oil refinery to the plant. On arrival these are transferred to a large storage drum and from there they are put into a special oven which heats them at high pressure to create the PET plastic granules. These granules are then mixed with recycled PET granules to create the right mix ready to convert them into plastic bottles.
To do this, the plastic granules are funnelled into an injection moulder which melts the plastic. This is then forced into the blow moulder where the shape of the bottles are made. When they are ready they are removed from the machine by a technician and transferred to the conveyor belt for packaging.
It is here that the bottles or caps are monitored for quality and purpose by the quality controller. Any damaged or faulty products are recycled. The products that are fit for purpose are then packaged into
cardboard boxes. These boxes are then taken to the warehouse, in this case by a forklift.
