REPORT ON WORLD TIGER DAY CELEBRATION ON 29TH

JULY, 2016

Students from the under-graduation and post-graduation had been participated for celebration of world tiger day on 29th July, 2016. IFS of Gujarat Cader, Mr. Punit nayer has been given details national tiger conservation project and projection of government of future restoration of tiger in Gujarat.

The lecture has been followed by eco-friendly tiger slam book preparation competition and Slogan competition. All students from UG and PG has been participated in competition. Below listed students got positioned rank in both competition.

Department of Environment Science has MoU with Surat Climate Change Trust (SCCT) for Joinly organize

Activity for climat action and green peace. Under this MoU behalf of department Eco-Club activities will be

organzised with this assosication. Any environment awareness programme will be under the same MoU. Behalf of

Rio+23 program was world humanitarian summit under organized Total 85 students had been registered

Department of Environmental Science Educational tour for Under Graduate and Post Graduate Students (T. Y. B. Sc. Sem VI, M. Sc.

Sem II and M. Sc. Sem IV) on 2nd

December,2016

Details of the event/ activity:

The main aim of our visit was to understand the working of Hazardous Waste Management

Industry and to understand the working of an Environmental Laboratory. Total no.:-55

students, 6 faculty members and 2 attendee were started for tour.

We started our journey to Ankleshwar at 7:30A.M in the morning from the college campus

and by 9:40 A.M we reached to the first industry BEIL (Bharuch Enviro Infrastructure Ltd.).

BEIL specializes in operating landfill sites (Industrial hazardous waste), common

incineration facilities. Since 1998, BEIL has developed Centralized Secured Landfill facility

at Ankleshwar, Gujarat and so far it has collected 5, 00,000 metric tons of solid/hazardous

waste and disposed in 68 acres plot area. The facility at BEIL is the first of its kind of TSDF

(Treatment, Storage, Disposal facility) site in India, certified under ISO 14001. We also

visited the laboratory where the tests are done to know the nature and properties of the waste.

The laboratory had many instruments such as: Total Cyanide Analyzer, Gas

Chromatography, C, H, N, S-Analyzer, Specific ion meter, Autoclaves, Incubators

From there we went to ARAIL (Ankleshwar Research & Analytical Infrastructure Ltd). It is

located in GIDC estate of Ankleshwar. It was established in 2008 with the financial

assistance from Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Ministry of Industries &

Commerce, and Government of India under Industrial Infrastructure Up-Gradation Scheme

and with equity participation from industries of Ankleshwar, Panoli and Jhagadia Industrial

Estates. The main motive of establishing this type of facility is to cater the demand for a

Clean Technology Development Centre (CTDC) where various eco-friendly or green

production techniques are conceived and developed for the industries.

The visit was full of important knowledge about the sites and the working of the industries.

students personally had a great timeand interactive sessions at BEIL and ARAIL. It was very

informative trip in terms of gaining insight of the real workplace and how the work is being

done.

Department of Environmental Science Educational tour for Under Graduate and Post Graduate Students on 29

th December, 2016

(S. Y. B. Sc. Sem IV and M. Sc. Sem IV)

Details of the event/ activity:

The main aim of our visit was to understand the floral and faunal diversity of forest ecosystem.

Also students performed practical related to diversity studies in their syllabus.

We recently arranged educational tour with a view to give on sight information about species of

trees, flowers, grasses and also of animals such as insects like butterflies, different types of birds

that are favorable to that atmosphere. We began our journey by gathering at college about 6 a.m.

with Total no. of 55 students, 6 faculty members and 2 attendee.

We visited Unai Mata temple at Unai. Students learned formation of natural hot springs and did

prayer at temple. Then after, we began our journey to Vasanda national park. After 45 minutes,

we reached at Vansada national park.

Vansda National Park is situated in the Navsari District of Gujarat state, India. Riding on the

banks of Ambika River and measuring roughly 24 km2 in area. It is established in 1979 as

a National Park. The deciduous forest area having unique flavour of flora and fauna population.

Students visited to catch some idea about what they are going to observe in forms of poster

exhibition in hall. In that hall posters of different species of bird were there and map of that

national park was there. After that with guide, all students along with faculty members went for

forest trail for about 2 hours. During the forest trail, students observed various land forms,

diverse species of spiders, birds, flowers etc. The trail ended to bank of river Ambika, where

students observed formation of landforms at riverbanks. The next destination to visit is Waghai

Botanical Garden. The garden is developed as biodiversity conservation center have a wide range

of native and exotic plant samples. Students had nature education trail which leads them to know

about 1) Ex situ conservation of rare, endangered and endemic species. 2) Recovery and

multiplication of valuable medicinal plants. 3) Rehabilitation of plants in natural habitats. 4)

Knowledge of ethano-botany and medicinal value of plants. 5) Awareness to promote education

regarding endangered and extinct plant species. The garden is designed and named as different

plots like Evergreen plot, Moist and dry desiduous plot, Arid plot, medicinal plot, rose plot,

taxonomy plot, bamboo plot and orchid plot. Students were divided into groups of three each and

distributed to various plots. At each plot, students gathered data to calculate Simpson’s and

Shannon-Weiner’s diversity index.

At 4.00 pm, we departed to Jankivan. Janki Van is a planned forest developed by

the Gujarat Social Forestry Department. It is located at village of Bhinar, Vansada and developed

on the theme of Ramayana. At JankiVan, students learned about various natural resources and

ecotourism. We came back to college at 8.00 pm.

The visit was full of important knowledge about the ecotourism site and the diversity studies.

Students personally had a great time and interactive sessions. It was very informative trip in

terms of gaining knowledge of forest ecosystem and ecotourism.

Department of Environmental Science Bird rescue with Prayas on Uttarayan-2017

total 30 students had been participated in bird rescue programme in collaboration with prayas during 14th

to 17th

January,2017 at dayalji ashram. Students had been operated injured birds as well help the paryas

team for rescuing the birds from various urban area of surat city and surroundings. More than 1500 birds

had been rescue by teams and around 15 birds had been operated by our students with trained vetnary

surgeons.

Department of Environmental Science Celebration of national wetland day on 9

th February, 2017

All students participated in celebration of national wetland day on 9th

February,2017 by preparation of

various project viz., eco-friendly model of wetlands, wetland as water resorvier, stone painting of wetland

creatures. Some students also made small festoons on wetland birds, eco-friendly posters on ramsar

project; wetland diversity; wetlands of Gujarat state; students played games and puzzles on wetland. The

exhibition was open for all classes and teachers for whole day.
