On

“A Case Study of Process Control and Instrumentation”

Instrumentation & Control Department of Sarvajanik College of Engineering & Technology organized an expert talk on “A case study of Process Control and Instrumentation” at 10 AM on 30th July 2016 at N.J. Seminar hall, SCET, Surat.

About the Expert Lecturer:

The guest for the Expert talk, Mr.Girish Vyas, the Senior General Manager of RIL, Hazira was present amongst us. He has more than 18 years of experience in the field of Instrumentation & Control, with strong credentials in Process Control, PID tuning of controllers, Control loops, Control Strategies and DCS systems.

Summary:

The talk was aimed to give exposure to the students about the Process Control strategies used practically in present industries. The session started with explaining the analogy of instrumentation process systems with human body. Types of controllers and their present day existence in electronic form with their evolution from pneumatic controllers was explained briefly by him.

Single loop control to Distributed control system,their advantages and Disadvantages were also explained. Students interacted and understood the advancement of DCS system from single loop controllers. He also emphasized on Cyber Security of the plant and how they achieve the same using firewalls and other security systems.

He also gave the Basic thumb rule for PID (Proportional,Integral,Derivative) tuning and their values in Flow,Pressure,Level and Temperature loop. He also explained in detail Cascade Control, Feed forward control, Ratio Control using case studies of Boiler and Distillation Column.He also motivated the students for always doing Hard work and advised them to be Practical in life.

Finally the session was concluded by giving Momento and a Certificate of Appreciation to Mr.Girish Vyas by Prof.Dr.Utpal Pandya. We acknowledge and thank Sarvajanik Education Society, Sarvajanik College of Engineering & Technology and Dr. Vaishali Mungurwadi, Principal, SCET for providing the necessary infrastructure for conducting the expert talk.
