Sarvajanik Education Society Sarvajanik College of Engineering & Technology Shri Sitaram Somani Faculty of Instrumentation & Control Engineering Expert Talk On “Distributed Control Systems-Basics & Functionality” Instrumentation & Control Department of Sarvajanik College of Engineering & Technology organized an expert talk on “Distributed Control Systems-Basics & Functionality” at 2 PM on 29 th August 2016, Monday at E.C. Seminar hall, SCET, Surat. About the Expert Lecturer: The guest for the Expert talk, Ms. Mahalaxmi, Training Head, Yokogawa, Banglore was present amongst us. She started her career as a scientist in BARC and worked there for five years after which she had joined Yokogawa. She has more than 25 years of experience in the field of Instrumentation & Control, with strong credentials in Field Instruments, Interlocking and DCS systems. Summary: The Talk Started by felicitation of the guest by Prof.Jayana Rana. A brief introduction about the guest lecturer was given by Prof.Dr.Utpal Pandya. The talk was aimed to give exposure to the students about DCS systems used practically in present industries. The session started with explaining the history and evolution of discrete control systems from centralized control systems. The first DCS system was introduced to the world by Yokogawa in the year 1975. She explained how the old control rooms looked like with annunciator panels, Recorders, and their evolution to the present advanced control rooms without any physical annunciator, Recorder, and Push Button but advance computer software serving the same functions as them. She explained in detail about hardware interlocking which was utilized in the Centralized Control Systems and the Software Interlocking used in Discrete Control Systems. All the technological advancement has helped the control room to be compact and it has also eased the work of Instrumentation Engineer.

Instrumentation & Control Department of Sarvajanik College of Engineering & Technology organized an expert talk on “Distributed Control Systems-Basics & Functionality” at 2 PM on 29th August 2016, Monday at E.C. Seminar hall, SCET, Surat.

About the Expert Lecturer:

The guest for the Expert talk, Ms.

Summary:

The Talk Started by felicitation of the guest by Prof.Jayana Rana.

Students interacted and explained the advancement of DCS system from centralized Systems. She also gave the Basic thumb rule for connecting Field Devices to Control Room Devices using smart transmitters and advanced DCS modules. She also motivated the students for always doing hard work and advised them to be Practical in life.

Finally the session was concluded by giving Momento and a Certificate of Appreciation to Ms.Mahalaxmi by Prof.Niteen Patel. We acknowledge and thank Sarvajanik Education Society, Sarvajanik College of Engineering & Technology and Dr. Vaishali Mungurwadi, Principal, SCET for providing the necessary infrastructure for conducting the expert talk.
