President's MessageMy Dear Rotarians,

Bye till next week….Thank You

Last week we had a meaningful celebration of Magazine month with past, present & future editors of our Club sharing their experience. Presence of editors from other clubs added more colour to the programme. Kudos to Dr. Prahlad for making the evening memorable one. Finally we have submitted all the records of projects towards District Awards 2011-12 to the AG Rtn. Aa.Cha. Ashok Kumar well in time. This has happened only because of our vice-president Rtn. Bhanuchandran who has worked day & night from past one month & our past president Rtn. Dr.Bheemesh along with his colleague Manjunath gave a final shape to it. I immensely thank all of them for making it happen. Today let us lend our hand to Shakthi Dhama Women Rehabilitation Centre to reach within to embrace humanity.

Who is not excited at the prospect of visiting one's home town? That too, after the closure of a nerve wracking financial year end, I was looking forward to a trip to Hassan, my home town, to

th thunwind. And, PETS & SETS @ Hassan on 7 & 8 of

April made a perfect occasion. The company of PHFs ( pun intended! ) added to the fun & frolic.

We started our journey from Vishwa's residence at 1pm joined by Harish, Manoj, Sundar & Sunjay. On the way we stopped for lunch near KR Nagar and we reached Hassan by 5pm. The journey was full of jokes by Sundar.

Vishwa & Manoj attended the intro session in the evening and joined us for dinner. Next day we had our share of fellowship with the president elect and secretary elect and journeyed back to Mysore. On the way Vishwa taught the paanwala at the mess a lesson or two (See pic). Only warm memories linger on PETS & SETS.

in bringing a complete bulletin. She said that she looks forward for the club bulletin every week when her husband comes home from the weekly meeting and even her daughter is a fan of the club bulletin. She expressed how Ann and Annets can involve themselves by contributing articles for the club bulletin so that the bulletin will also have a Ann & Annet perspective.

Rtn Srinivasan spoke on the economics of bringing a club bulletin. He explained in detail about the number of issues brought in a year and the number of copies per week and the cost involved. He was in the idea that whatever bulletin is being printed right now is good and also necessary to continue with the same or even better. He said that there is no point in cutting down the printing and publishing cost of the bulletin as the charm of the bulletin wade away if we try to bring a cheaper quality bulletin. His views were that a good quality, coloured physical bulletin is better than a cheaper version or the web version. So he desired that the club will find ways and means to fund the bulletin cost.

The young blood Rtn Mohan Kumar, with Power Point presentation explained how we can be tech savvy and cut cost in bringing the weekly bulletin. He explained that we can have our own web site where we can upload the soft copy of the bulletin. E-mail is another alternative for soft copy bulletin. He stressed that we can use these medium and cut cost in bringing out a physical bulletin.

On the whole, the experience was truly knowledgeable for the future editors. The whole show was brilliantly anchored by Rtn Dr. Prahlad and he honoured fellow Rotarians for writing articles for “About Us”. Rtn Vishwanath proposed the vote of thanks.

hours. Khmer cuisine is closely related to those in neighboring Thailand and Laos, although it is not as spicy. Curries, stir-fried vegetables, rice, noodles and soups are staples of the Khmer diet. Fresh river fish and shellfish are both abundant and delicious. Western food is provided only in the major cities although other Asian dishes are widely available. Cambodia has a hot and humid tropical climate. The local currency is called Riel and the present conversion rate is Re1 = 77.35 KHR. The traditional clothing for both men and women is the krama, a long, narrow checked silk or cotton cloth available in most markets and shops. Bargaining is essential for all souvenirs shopping, if travelers are to obtain reasonable prices. When visiting temples or pagodas, including those of the Angkor complex, shorts and T-shirts are acceptable. Shoes (as well as hats) are generally removed at the entrance to pagodas. For visits to the Silver Pagoda, which is within the Royal Palace grounds, visitors are asked to dress more formally. Gentlemen are required to wear long trousers and ladies should wear long trousers or long skirts.

Ann Rashmi, wife of Rtn Balaji, bagged 4 gold medals in M.Ed at the recently held convocation of Mysore University. She has also cleared the KSET exams held in October 2011, where the pass percentage was a mere 4.5% of the total number of people appeared. Being a busy mom of 2 daughters she found time to attend regular college and has achieved wonders. Midtown congratulates the role model who has set an example for many.

GOLD MEDALS RAIN - Congratulations

Destination Cambodia - A brief intro

21 rotarians from our club are attending the International Convention @ Thailand. Since we have some Thailand citizens who are familiar with the country and can give you information about that country, I thought that I must enlighten my friends visiting Cambodia for the first time about the country and prepare them for a joyous experience.

Cambodia officially known as the Kingdom of Cambodia, is a country located near Thailand and the largest city is Phnom Penh. Cambodia is ruled by the king and its language is 'Khmer'. The time difference between India and Combodia is +1.30

RI President Presents Polio Medal To Afghanistan President In Kabul

Rotary International President Kalyan Banerjee presented a medal to Afghan President Hamid Karzai on 2 April in Kabul, in recognition of Karzai's support for the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, in which Rotary is a spearheading partner.

Banerjee is the first RI president to visit Afghanistan. His visit was made possible through the work of Rotary Foundation Trustee Stephen R. Brown and Fary Moini, both members of the Rotary Club of La Jolla Golden Triangle, California, USA, which has carried out numerous successful educational projects in Jalalabad.

During their 45-minute meeting, Karzai and Banerjee discussed how lessons learned from India's success might be applied in Afghanistan. Banerjee's home country of India was removed from the polio-endemic list in February.

“I encouraged the president to keep up the intensity of the immunization program because, by doing so, they can stop polio as we did in India,” Banerjee said. “Once it stops, it stops. You don't know when it will happen, or where the last polio case will be; but one day it will happen if you remain ever vigilant.”
