“Narendra Modi” is perhaps the most discussed topic nationwide at present. Midtowners were not to be left behind. They came out with a spontaneous idea of discussing the most relevant topic in their weekly meeting on 4th Wednesday. The attendance was surprisingly good and the good fun was in store. President Bhanu started off the proceedings imitating Modi and after the formalities the presentations by the members began. Dr. Prahlad gave the introduction with a small power point presentation. Rock followed with his entertaining presentation with his innovative collection of slides. His presentation won him prize for “most entertaining presentation”. Then there were talks by many midtowners numbering nearly 12 –some serious, some funny etc. Rtn. Nandoo shared his real life experience while he was in Ahmadabad during Godhra riots. He opined Modi has changed after that dreadful event so is everybody's opinion about Modi. Sundar imitated Modi. Raju Baliga gave some thought provoking observations and won the best presentation award. Raaghu, Apoorva, Das, Gubbi, Ravindrababu added their views. Finally Rajguru Rtn. Raghu summed up analyzing Modi in his motivation and training module. On the whole it was a pretty entertaining evening and Midtowners had an opportunity to dissect Modi's government and the future of India.

2014 ROTARY CONVENTION ENDS WITH THE PASSING OF THE TORCH

RI President Ron Burton put the final touches on the 2014 Rotary Convention in Sydney by reminding a packed Allphones Arena why they joined Rotary.

"Being a Rotarian isn't about our own achievements, it isn't about our own careers, it really isn't about us at all. It's about the people we help," said Burton. "At the end of the day, the only thing that matters in Rotary is how much better the world becomes because Rotary is in it."

The four-day event, which drew to a close on 4 June, attracted more than 18,000 attendees from 153 countries. Burton encouraged convention goers to return to their clubs ready to do more to improve the lives of others.

"Together, we can dream big and we can achieve. We can change whole communities for the better, not for a day but for a lifetime," he said.

Rotary changes lives by improving literacy, making water cleaner, bringing better health care to mothers and children, and eradicating polio worldwide, Burton said. But he warned that complacency could set Rotary back.

“That's why it isn't enough for any of us to just go through the motions, to show up at our clubs, to do just the minimum needed and no more," he added. "And it's why each of us has to remember, every hour of every day, what a responsibility we have.”

Members of Burton's Rotary Club of Norman, Oklahoma, United States, and RI President-elect Gary C.K. Huang's club of Taipei, Taiwan, took the stage to exchange club banners, a tradition that unofficially marks a changing of the guard.

Huang will become Rotary International president on 1 July. During his term in office, he has set a goal of growing Rotary's membership to 1.3 million. Huang told the audience that increasing and sustaining membership will help Rotary achieve its goals. He shared a story about a small Taiwanese club that had only six members. But after asking their wives to join, the club grew to 29 members in three years because the spouses asked their friends to become members as well.

Bring the root cellar into the 21st century with the eCool, an eco-friendly cooler that chills beer (or other canned drinks) without ice or power.

Created by the Danish startup of the same name, the eCool measures three feet tall and nine inches in diameter, and weighs about 26 pounds. It is designed to be placed in a three foot hole, which requires some digging, but it can remain in place year-round once it has been installed. The cans are delivered to the surface (or installed underground) via a hand-cranked, vertical conveyor belt, and the eCool's insulated top prevents the cooler air from escaping the device.

trek up and down the bridge's storied steel

arches, the 340 participants kept their good

Kincumber in Australia.

The massive turnout eclipsed Oprah

Winfrey's world-record climb in 2011 when she

summited the bridge alongside 315 of her

most ardent fans. But for Rotary members, the

record paled in comparison to the experience

and the opportunity to take a step closer to

ending polio forever. The event raised 110,000

Australian dollars (US$102,300).
