A third Rifle Match between teams which had been

selected by Mis Excellency the Governor and the Officer

Commanding the Defence Force was shot off on Thursday

the 10th of November, 1927, at 4.15 p.rn., on the Rifle

Range, Stanley. At SCO and 500 yards the conditions

for shooting were favourable with a slight variablebreeze from the north-east but at 500 yards accurate

marksmanship was rendered difficult by a sudden change

of wind to the north-west and on account of the increas­ing cold. The light was on the .whole good, again very kindly given to the team's in the range hut

by the Governor and was enjoyed by everyone.The team selected by the Officer Commanding the

Defence Force won the match by a margin of 7 points.R. L. Robson at 500 yards succeeded in making the

exceptionally good score of 34 out of a possible of 35

points for the winning team, follows :-

With reference to Government Notice No. 164, of the 19th of November, 1927, it is hereby notified,

for general information, that the rifle-match fixed

for Wednesday, the 23rd of November, 1927, between

teams selected by H.E. the Governor and the Officer

Commanding the Defence Force, took place on that day

as arranged and resulted in a win for His Excellency*s

team of 32 points. The Conditions for shooting were

exceptionally bad, a gale blowing right across the

range throughout the match and rendering steady aim

With reference to Government Notice No. 167 of

the 24th of November, 1927, it is hereby notified,for

general information, that the rifle-match arranged for

Sundaythe 27th of November, 1927, between teams

selected by His Excellency the Governor and the OfficerCommanding the Defence Force, was shot off at 4.30

o’clock in the afternoon and resulted in a win for His

Excellency’s team of 17 points. During the match a

slight variable breeze blew across the range from the

right, and at 600 yards the light was bad; otherwisethe conditions for shooting were favourable.

postpone the Rifle Shooting Match arranged for Saturday the

10th of December, 1927, until Wednesday the 14th or December, 1927, when it was shot off on the Range at 4.30 p.m. between

of December, 1927, information,

it is hereby notified, for general that the rifle shooting match arranged for

Wednesday, the 21st of Decsnber, 1927, between teamsselected by His Excellency the Governor and the Officer

Commanding the Falkland Islands Defence Force, was shot

off on the Range at 4.30 o’clock in the afternoon and

resulted in a win for the latter team by 10 points.The wind was very strong and troublesome, being 10 degrees

right in strength at 600 yards. While shooting at this

distance with Mark VII Ammunition of the year 1917 a roundfired by His Excellency was seen to leave the end of the

rifle barrel after a very slight explosion and to fall to

the ground only a short distance down the range.The following are the scores

shot off on the Range on the afternoon of the 27th of January,

1928, and resulted as shown below in a win for the "Probables"

team by the narrow margin of 4 points.

Great interest was shown in the result of this match and

it is no exaggeration to say that the Colony as a whole is

watching the performance put up by their prospective represent­

atives at the coming Bisley meeting to whom much praise is due

for the keenness which they continue to display in the series

of practice matches arranged.

The conditions on this occasion were tricky. The wind

was blowing with moderate force straight down the range from

the targets and the sky was dull and overcast.

His Excellency very kindly gave tea to the teams in the

Range hut.

general information, that the Rifle, Hatch arranged for

Wednesday, the 8th of February, 1928, between tears

captained by the Honourable the Colonial Secretary .and

With reference to Government Notice Ho. 55 of the

8th of February, 1928, it is hereby notified, for general

information, that the Rifle Shooting match fixed for

Wednesday, the 15th of February, 1928, between teams

captained by the Honourable the Colonial Secretary and

the Officer Commanding the Falkland Islands Defence Force,

took place as arranged and resulted in a win for the

latter team by 11 points.

The conditions for shooting were decidedly bad,

a variable wind of increasing strength and a lights patchy

and at times very troublesome, contributing to render

accurate markmanship exceedingly difficult. Frequent

heavy squalls accompanied by bitter cold added to the

disadvantages with which the competitors had-to contend.

information, that the Rifle Match arrangedgeneralfor Wednesday the 4th of April, 1928, between teamscaptained by His Excellency the Governor and the

Officer Commanding the Falkland Islands Defence Force,

postponed until Wednesday the 11th of April, 1928, when it was shot off on the Range, Stanley, at 2.30

and resulted in a win for His Excellencyrs team

It is hereby notified, for general information,

that a Rifle Match between the following teams

captained by His Excellency the Governor and the

Chief Constable, was shot off on the Range, Stanley,

at 2.15 p.m. on the 12th of April, 1928, and

resulted in a win for His Excellency's team by

91 points.Hie conditions for shooting were unfavourable,

bad light, and frequent heavy squalls accompanied

by bitter cold being disadvantages with which the

competitors had to contend.The following are the scores :

the 23rd of April, 1928, it is hereby notified, for

general information, that the Rifle Shooting Match

arranged for Wednesday the 25th of April, 1928, between teams captained by the Governor and Mr. J. W. Grierson was shot off on the Range, Stanley, on that

day, and resulted in a win for His Excellency’s teamby 45 points.
