IN THE VINEYARD
As usual, today’s first and third scripture readings are obviously related, with the second continuing one of Paul’s Letters—these days, the Letter to the Philippi-ans. The vineyard stories from Isaiah and Matthew both talk about evildoers coming to a bad end.
In Isaiah, it’s the vineyard itself that produces “wild grapes” instead of the crop the owner dreamed of and
worked for. So it will be “trampled” and “overgrown with thorns.” In Matthew, those to whom the owner leased the vineyard destroy the dream. So the owner “will put those wretched men to a wretched
death and lease his vineyard to other ten-ants” (Matthew 21:41).
Yes, if we reject divine love we come to a bad end. And with all this talk of the unfaithful being trampled and thrown out, it’s consoling to hear Paul’s message to the Philippians, who were by no means perfect. “Have no anxiety at all,” Paul said. “Then the God of peace will be with you” (Philippians 4:6, 9). Como de costumbre, la primera y tercera lecturas de las Es-crituras del día de hoy están evidentemente relacionadas, mientras que la segunda lectura continúa una de las cartas de Pablo, que en estos días es la conocida carta a los filipen-ses. Las historias de la viña, de Isaías y Mateo, hablan de malhechores que van a “acabar mal”. En Isaías, es la propia
viña la que produce “uvas amargas” en vez de la cosecha que el dueño so-ñaba con tener y por la que trabajó. Por lo tanto, la viña será “pisoteada” y “cubierta con espinos”. En Mateo, son aquellos a los que el dueño arrendó la viña los que destruyeron el sueño. Por
consiguiente el dueño “hará morir sin compasión a esa gente tan mala y arrendará la viña a otros” (Mateo 21:41).
Efectivamente, si rechazamos el amor divino vamos a aca-bar mal. Además con todo este hablar sobre los infieles que son pisoteados y expulsados, es un consuelo oír el mensaje de Pablo a los Filipenses quienes, bajo ningún concepto, eran perfectos. “No se inquieten por nada”, dice Pablo (Filipenses 4:6). “Y el Dios de la paz estará con uste-des” (Filipenses 4:9). Deficit Reduction Fund Collection
This weekend we will take up our monthly Deficit Reduction Fund Collection (envelopes are in the mailed packets). Since February, we have made good progress in catching up on our past deficit thanks to parishioner’s generosity.
Unfortunately, the deficit has continued to grow. The summer was particularly difficult with lower than normal contributions to the regular support of the parish (typical due to parishioners being away). However, while you were away, our bills continued to come in – especially some large ones (medical premiums for staff members along with prop-erty insurance). If you have been away and, therefore, not made your regular contribution to the parish, remember sup-porting the parish is an ongoing commitment since even when you’re not here we continue to get bills to pay for run-ning the parish so that it is still here when you return.
Colecta del Fondo de Reducción del Déficit
Este fin de semana vamos a tomar nuestra Colecta Mensual del Fondo de Reducción del Déficit (los sobres se encuentran en los paquetes enviados por correo). Desde febrero, hemos progresado en ponernos al día con nuestro déficit pasado, gracias a la generosidad de los feligreses.
Por desgracia, el déficit ha seguido creciendo. El verano fue particularmente difícil, porque bajaron las contribuciones normales para el apoyo regular de la parroquia (típico, debido a que los feligreses sa-lieron fuera). Religious Education Program
There are no Religious Education classes for students on Sunday, 5 October due to the public school Fall Break. Classes resume on Sunday, 12 October, when the students will participate in the Living Rosary in honor of the Month of the Holy Rosary and the Month of Respect for Life. Registration opens for next semester in January 2015.
Confirmation I: Next meeting is on Wednesday, 15 October at 7 PM. This group is currently meeting every other Wednes-day and is open to high school students who want to be con-firmed in 2015.
Confirmation II: For high school students who were a part of the Youth Ministry–Catechetical Confirmation I program last year. Classes continue each Wednesday on a weekly basis. Confirmation will be celebrated on Tuesday, 25 November.

El 5 de octubre no habrán clases de Educación Religiosa para estudiantes, debido al receso de otoño de las escuelas públi-cas. La clases reanudarán el domingo, 12 de octubre, cuando los estudiantes participarán en el Rosario Viviente en honor al mes del Santo Rosario y el mes de Respeto a la Vida. En en-
ero del 2015 se abrirán las inscripciones para el próximo semester.
Confirmación I: La próxima reunión es el miércoles, 15 de octubre a las 7 PM. Este grupo está actualmente reuniéndose cada dos miér-coles y está abierto a los estudiantes de secundaria que quieren ser confirmados en 2015.
Confirmación II: Para los estudiantes de secundaria que fueron parte del programa de Confirmación I de la Pastoral Juvenil–Catequética del año pasado. Las clases continúan semanalmente to-dos los miércoles. La Confirmación se celebrará el martes, 25 de noviembre.

Pastoral Care of the Sick and Dying
Anointing of the Sick
This sacrament is intended for persons who are at least of Catechetical age (7 years) and are preparing for sur-gery, or are afflicted with a serious (though temporary) or chronic illness (be it physical or mental), or are eld-erly. It may be celebrated individually by making an ap-pointment with a priest of the parish. If possible, other family members and/or friends should accompany the person during the celebration. The celebration may occur at the parish, at the person’s home, in the hospital or nursing care facility. Please contact one of the priests of the parish to make an ap-pointment (795-1633).
Periodically during the year, the sacrament may be cele-brated in a communal liturgical rite in the church either during a Sunday Mass or at another time.
The Last Rites
When it is clear that the person is dying, the Church celebrates The Last Rites and not the Anointing of the Sick. The Last Rites are prayers of commendation (commending the person to the Lord’s eternal care) and Viaticum (communion as “food for the journey”) if it is possible for the person to receive communion. Please contact one of the priests of the parish (795-1633) to make arrangements for celebrating these rites.

Este sacramento está dirigido a personas que tengan al menos la mayoría de edad de Catequesis (7 años) y se están pre-parando para una cirugía, o padecen de una grave enfermedad (aunque temporal), o enfermedad crónica (ya sea física o men-tal), o si son de edad avanzada. Se puede celebrar de forma individual al hacer una cita con un sacerdote de la parroquia.
De ser posible, otros miembros de la familia y/o amigos, deberán acompañar a la persona durante la celebración. La celebración puede ocurrir en la parroquia, en la casa de la persona, en el hospital o centro de atención de enfermería. Por favor, póngase en contacto con uno de los sacerdotes de la parroquia para hacer una cita (795-1633).
Periódicamente durante el año, el sacramento será celebrado en un rito litúrgico comunitario en la iglesia, ya sea durante una misa do-minical o en otro momento.
La Extrema Unción
Cuando es evidente que la persona se está muriendo, la Iglesia cele-bra la extremaunción y no la Unción de los Enfermos. Los últimos ritos son oraciones de alabanza (encomiando a la persona a la aten-ción eterna del Señor) y el Viático (comunión como "comida para el viaje") si es posible que la persona a reciba la comunión. Most Reverend Gerald F. Kicanas will celebrate the Annual Red Mass on Tuesday, 7 October. The annual tradition of holding a Mass for judges, attorneys, law school profes-sors, and others working in the legal profession, dates back to 1245. During the Mass we pray for guidance from the Holy Spirit for all who seek justice, and we focus on the God-given power and responsibility of all those working in the legal profession. The event is celebrated in conjunction with the St. Thomas More Society of Southern Arizona and the Catholic Foundation.
In recent years we have recognized someone from the local legal profession and law enforcement to receive the St. Thomas More Society recognition. This year two people will be honored. Anne Terry Morales, Esq., a Tucson attorney, former Salpointe High School teacher and active Youth Leader from Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, and Richard J. Tracy, Jr., Supervisory Deputy Marshal, active in the Knights of Columbus from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish will receive the award. All are welcome!

La tradición anual de celebrar una Misa para los jueces, abogados, profesores de derecho, y otras personas que trabajan en la profesión legal, se remonta a 1245. Durante la Misa oramos por la guía del Espíritu Santo para todos los que buscan la justicia, y nos centramos en que Dios da la fuerza y la responsabilidad de todos los que traba-
jan en la profesión legal. El evento se celebra en conjunto con la So-ciedad St. Thomas More del sur de Arizona y la Fundación Católica.

October is Respect Life MonthOctober is Respect Life MonthOctober is Respect Life Month We observe Respect Life Month by collecting diapers (baby and adult) and baby items for several agencies: The Diaper Bank, Reachout Women’s Center and Villa Maria Nursing Home. Here is some information about each of these agencies.
Resources for free or discounted diapers are few. Food Stamps and WIC cannot be used to purchase diapers, and child care
facilities require parents to provide an adequate supply of disposable diapers. Just as it did at its inception in 1994, the Diaper Bank provides diapers to those under
the poverty line where no public assistance exists. This agency recognized that an in-adequate supply of diapers puts families with young children at an increased risk for
health related problems and potential abuse. They believe that through a network of
social service providers the Diaper Bank prevents duplication of services, limits adminis-trative spending, and prioritizes clients in the direst of circumstances.
Our St. Vincent de Paul Society receives diapers (both for babies and adults) from the Diaper Bank.
Reachout Women’s Center (formerly known as Reachout Pregnancy Center)
is a Catholic agency serving Tucson women since 1973.
Their mission is to provide positive options for important life choices by offering confidential pre–
and post-natal counseling, pregnancy series, educational programs and resource and referral sup-
port. To fulfill this mission, they offer several free services.
Pregnancy Testing They offer medical-grade pregnancy tests that you
can sue on your own, just to find out, or that you
can have their medical staff perform in order to provide proof of pregnancy. Tests are performed
every day that they are open and no appointment or payment is necessary.
Ultrasounds Once you’ve had a positive pregnancy test, you are eligible to
receive a free ultrasound confirmation of pregnancy. These pro-
cedures are offered to women who are at least six weeks preg-nant and have not yet established a relationship with another
Tucson obstetrician. You can call to make an appointment or schedule an ultrasound online.
Counseling The center is always staffed with trained peer
counselors that can help you through hard deci-
sions and difficult situations. You can stop by any time they are open to talk to someone and you’ll
never be charged a fee.
Referrals If you are in need of resources that the Center doesn’t provide, they
are able to refer you to other Tucson agencies that may have just
what you need. Their free resources include parenting mentors, personal nurses,
shelters, clothing banks, post-abortion retreats and much more.

Aquí encon-trarán información adicional acerca de cada una de estas organizaciones.
Los recursos para obtener pañales gratis o con descuento son pocos. Los Cupones para Alimentos y WIC no pueden ser uitlizados para com-prar pañales y los Centros de Cuidado Infantil requieren a los padres de familia proporcionar un suministro adecuado de pañales desechables. Al igual que en sus inicios, en 1994, el Banco del Pañal proporciona pañales a aquellos que se encuentran en situación de pobreza y en donde, no existe asistencia pública. Este organismo reconoce que un suministro inadecuado de pañales pone a las familias con niños pequeños en un mayor riesgo de experimentar problemas relacionados con la salud y con posibles abusos. A través de una red de proveedores de servicios sociales el Banco del Pañal puede evitar la duplica-ción de servicios, limitar el gasto administrativo, y dar prioridad a los clientes que se encuentran en las peores circunstancias.

Reachout Women’s Center (Antes conocido como Centro de Embarazo Reachout)
Es una agencia Católica que ha atendido a las mujeres en Tucson desde 1973.
Su misión es la de proporcionar opciones positivas para la toma de decisiones importantes en la vida, ofreci-endo asesoramiento confidencial pre y post-natal, “pregnancy series”, programas educativos como de apoyo, además de material de referencia. Para cumplir con su misión, este centro ofrece varios servicios de forma gratuita.
Pruebas de Embarazo El centro ofrece la prueba “medical-grade pregnancy” la
cual puede ser realizada de manera particular, o para asegurarse del resultado, esta puede ser realizada por el personal medico del centro. Las pruebas se llevan a cabo todos los días hábiles, sin previa cita o pago alguno.
Ultrasonidos Una vez que usted haya obtenido una prueba de embarazo positiva, usted podrá optar a una confirmación de embarazo por medio de un ultrasonido de forma gratuita. Este procedimiento se ofrece a las mu-jeres con al menos seis semanas de embarazo y que aún no han sido atendidas por otro obstetra en Tucson. Puede llamar al centro para con-certar una cita, también puede hacerlo en línea.
Consejeria El centro cuenta con consejeros capacitados que pueden asistirle en los momentos más difíciles. Usted puede recibir atención en cualquier momento. Sólo pase al centro en horarios hábiles para hablar con alguno de nuestros consejeros de forma gratuita.

Do you know an inactive / absent Catholic who is seeking for something more in life?
In 2008, the Center for the Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA) did a study titled Sacraments Today, Belief and Practice among U.S. Catholics. The study revealed that 23% of adult Catholics attended Mass weekly in 2008 and that 56% of adult Catholics rarely or never attend Mass or attend a few times a year. Here is the good news they found: many inactive / absent Catholics today are open to receiving an invitation to reconnect with their faith. And some will respond positively to the invitation to return.
Inactive / absent Catholics are those who once practiced their faith and who have, for a variety of reasons, stopped practicing. Uncle Joe who hasn’t been to Mass in years; Aunt Sally who became indifferent and no longer practices her faith; Granddaughter Cecilia who is busy with many things and simply can’t find the time.
We believe that many of them, while alienated or indifferent, still yearn for a closer relationship with God. We also believe that the Catholic Church can satisfy their yearnings. Jesus Christ, active in his Church today, through the urgings of the Holy Spirit, invites these sons and daughters of the Father to return to Him and experience His embrace and kiss in the beauty of the sacraments and the call of the Gospel. Conscious of our responsibility to continue Jesus’ mission of bringing people into an active relationship with our God, our parish is once again looking to reach out to inactive / absent Catholics using a program called: Catholics
Reaching Out. This program provides each of us with the means for reaching out to the son or daughter, friend or relative who has been inactive /absent and inviting him/her back to the Church family. Here is how the Catholics Reaching Out program will work and how you can be a part of this out-reach. Think of some of the people whom you know who are inactive / absent Catholics and who are looking for “something more” in their lives. We will have parish invi-tations available in the vestibule which you can give to them letting them know of our up-coming series.
Come, O Holy Spirit, and with your gift of Counsel, help and guide inactive / absent Catholics in all their ways, that they may always do your holy will. Incline their hearts to that which is good. Give them the brightness of your light, that they may be pleasing to you in unity of faith. Amen
For six weeks beginning October 13, 2014 through November 24, 2014, at 7:00 PM our parish will host informa-tional and faith sharing discussions for Inactive Catholics who are thinking about their faith. If you or someone you know left the Church because of they were “hurt”, felt spiritually empty, divorced and remarried or just been away for a long time, the Catholics Reaching Out series can help answer your questions. ¿Conoce a un católico inactivo/ausente que esté en búsqueda de algo más en su vida?

Creemos que muchos de ellos, aunque alejados o indiferentes, todavía desean
tener una relación íntima con Dios. También, creemos que la Iglesia Católica
puede satisfacer dichos deseos. Jesucristo, que por la acción del Espíritu Santo se
encuentra activo en su Iglesia, invita a estos hijos e hijas del Padre a regresar a Él y
a sentir Su abrazo y cariño en los Sacramentos y en el llamado del Evangelio. Pero

Conscientes de nuestra responsabilidad de continuar con la misión de Jesús de acercar a las personas a una relación activa con Dios, nuestra parroquia una vez más está tratando de lle-gar a aquellos católicos inactivos/ausentes por medio del programa: Catholics Reaching Out. Este programa proporciona los medios necesarios para poder acercarse a aquel hijo o hija, amigo o familiar que ha estado inactivo/ausente con el fin de invitarlo a él/ella a unirse de nuevo a la familia de la Iglesia.
Así es como funciona el programa Catholics Reaching Out, usted puede ser parte de este out-reach, piense en aquellas personas a las que conoce que son católicos inactivos/ausentes y que están en búsqueda de “algo más” en sus vidas:
Durante seis semanas a partir del 13 de Octubre al 24 de Noviembre de 2014 a partir de las 7 PM la Parroquia San Cirilo de Alejandría acogerá una serie de sesiones informativas y de diálogo acerca de la fe, dirigidas a aquellos Católicos que están pensando en su fe y/o se encuentran alejados de la Iglesia. Si usted o alguien que usted conoce se alejó de la Iglesia debido a que fueron lastimados, se sintieron espiritualmente vacios, están divorciados y se han vuelto a casar o simplemente han estado alejados por mucho tiempo, el programa Catholics Reaching Out puede ayudarle a responder sus preguntas.
