Keep These Tips in Mind for Cooking

Whitefish

When you’re creating memories while fishing in Manitoba, it’s likely that you’ll catch whitefish, especially while you’re lake fishing. Whether you catch it ice fishing in the winter or from a thawed lake during spring, summer or fall, you’ll need to find an appetizing and easy preparation method. You’re in luck! Whitefish is a very versatile fish – it can stand up to grilling, baking or even pan frying with ease. There are a few things that you should keep in mind though,

1. Prepare Your Grill Properly.

Whether you’re grilling your catch on a barbecue outdoors or on an indoor stovetop grill, you’ll want to make sure the grill is properly prepared so that the fish doesn’t stick. You can ensure proper grill preparation by brushing the grill surface clean and then oiling the surface, or, you can brush oil on the fish itself before you put it on the grill. Even if you oil the fish, you’ll want to make sure your grill surface is clean.

2. Make Sure You Don’t Overcook the

Fish.

No matter which method you choose, whether you bake the fish or use some other method, it’s important not to overcook the fish. When you’re pan-frying this catch, a common recommendation is to cook the fish for 3-4 minutes per side. At that point, the surface of the fish should be golden brown in color. You’ll want to remove the fish from the pan or from the heat source when the fish is no longer translucent.

3. Make Sure to Remove the Bones

There’s nothing worse than biting into a perfectly baked fish meal and realizing that you have tiny bones in your mouth. Bones can be removed with tweezers prior to cooking.
