The HBP Curriculum combines distance learning courses and complementary face-to-face workshops that provide basic lessons in the HBP core fi elds neuroscience, medicine and ICT for early career researchers, outside their area of specialisation. In addition, it includes courses on the subjects of ethics as well as intellectual property rights, translation and exploitation of research. For more information visit:https://education.humanbrainproject.eu/web/hbp-education-portal/hbp-curriculum
HBP CURRICULUM
TARGET GROUPThe workshops address early career researchers who want to gain knowledge outside their area of specialisation or who are interested in learning about ethical challenges or intellectual property rights.

RESEARCH, ETHICS AND SOCIETAL IMPACTDUAL USE AND RESPONSIBLE RESEARCH: ETHICAL CHALLENGESThis workshop aims to provide participants with insights on ethical aspects of dual-use research in neu-roscience and Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI). Lectures will be given by some of the world‘s leading experts on dual-use in neuroscience research, and by active researchers on RRI. The topics cover-ed will include the chemistry of the brain and dual action of drugs, novel incapacitants, ethics awareness and engagement and RRI. An important ingredient of the workshop is the use of team-based learning techniques.

This workshop addresses especially early career researchers who are not familiar with the fi eld of neurobiology and/or neuroscience. It covers topics from basic neurobiology over cell biology and elec-trophysiology to big data handling. A major aspect will be the challenges of data collection and interpre-tation in a highly complex system.

This “hackathon” style workshop is a hands-on intensive experience complementing the theoretical as-pects of the online course on intellectual property rights, translation and exploitation of research. Students will work in small multi-disciplinary teams to assemble joint applied research proposals in the wide range of fi elds in brain science. Experienced entrepreneurs, top executives at the interface between academia and industry and researchers from academia will present, mentor and advise on the translational aspects of the off ered projects including how to advance their proposal from the lab to market, understand the problems and accordingly defi ne the needs in the chosen fi eld, how to choose or identify the target po-pulation, patentability options and how to build a business model. Finally, they will present their proposals to industry and academy experts. The workshop is a unique experience of diving into the entrepreneurial world, learning how to incorporate innovation and entrepreneurship mindset and concepts into day-to-day research work and beyond.
