Cowgirls Look To “Nail It Down” In 2014 McNeese State won the program’s third overall Southland Conference title and tied a program record with 38 wins in 2013 after posting a 38-15 record. Head coach Mike Smith also picked up his 700th career win and was named the Southland’s Coach of the Year. The Cowgirls’ season ended with back-to-back dissappointing losses in the Southland Conference Tournament, thus making the 2014 motto “Nail It Down”. This season, McNeese wants to finish what they feel got away from them last season and that was to advance to the NCAA Tournament, a goal for the Cowgirls every season. Players also broke records in 2013. Outfielder Alanna DiVittorio broke the single season walks record and also became the career leader in that category. DiVittorio also tied the single season record with 48 runs scored. The Cowgirls return all of their starters including pitcher Jamie Allred. In the circle, pitchers Meagan Bond and Jamie Allred both won 18 games apiece. Bond became McNeese’s all-time career victories leader, ending her stellar career with 67 wins. Bond ended the season ranked fourth in the nation with the least amount of walks (0.75) per seven innings. Bond also ranked ninth nationally with a 1.27 ERA. Allred capped off her rookie season ranked 20th in the nation in walks (1.11) per seven innings. McNeese will play five teams that participated in the 2013 NCAA Tournament including Alabama, the 2012 National Champs. Six opponents are ranked in the 2014 USA Today/NFCA Top 25 preseason poll and three other teams received votes in the preseason poll.

The Cowgirls will take part in four tournaments and will open the season at the South Alabama Mardi Gras Invitational. McNeese will face the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Austin Peay, South Alabama, and, Syracuse. “Our schedule is one that can help our RPI and potentially help us with postseason if we can get some big wins against non-conference teams. Our first month of the season is very important for us and we need to play well, gain confidence, and compete in the “big game” experience,” said head coach Mike Smith. The following week, McNeese will play in the Texas A&M Aggie Classic where they will play Tulsa, Texas A&M and Oregon State. McNeese will return home for the only time in the month of February to host Stephen F. Austin in a non-conference doubleheader Feb. 19 in its home opener. The Cowgirls will head back to Alabama Feb. 21-23 to take part in the University of Alabama Bama Bash for its third consecutive tournament. This tournament will also consist of teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament last year. The Cowgirls will face Central Florida and Virginia Tech before concluding tournament play against the 2012 National Champs, Alabama. The Cowgirls will conclude their regular season tournament play at the North Texas Best Western Classic (March 1-2).

McNeese will face Wichita State and North Texas in this tournament. Other non-conference games has McNeese traveling to nationally ranked UL-Lafayette before beginning Southland Conference play. “I feel like we will be battled tested as we get into conference play with our preseason schedule,” said Smith.

The Cowgirls retrun all but one starter from last season. Seniors Alanna DiVittorio, Victoria Rich, Kim Kennedy and Katie Roux along with juniors Ashley Modzelweski and Lauren Langner and sophomores Jamie Allred, Taylor Goree, Lakeyn Fontenot, and Emily Vincent are the returning starters. Divittorio, Modzelewski, Allred and Vincent have all been named to the Southland Conference preseason team. DiVittorio led the team with a .346 batting average, a .647 slugging percent, .492 on base percent, 48 runs, and 39 walks. She also tied for a team high 12 doubles, nine home runs, and 12 stolen bases and ranked 18th in the NCAA in walks. DiVittorio broke the school season and career record in walks last season. She was second on the team with 48 hits, 18 walks, a .594 slugging percent, and a .432 on base percent. Vincent produced the longest hitting streak of the season, hitting safely in 12 games. McNeese will have nine new faces (eight freshmen) and redshirt Daleigh Fossler who missed last season due to an injury.

Third year head coach Mike Smith led McNeese to the program’s first Southland Conference title since 1994, leading McNeese to the 2013 Southland Conference title in his second season with the program as well as his second consecutive 30-win season and tied a program record with 38 wins after posting a 38-13 overall record last season. Smith was named the Southland Conference Coach of the Year in 2013 and had five players named to the All-Southland Conference team and four named to the All-Southland Conference Academic Team Smith picked up his 700th career victory with a 6-5 win over Houston Baptist on April 13, 2013. Smith enters his 16th season of coaching with a career record of 708-207. In 2012, his first season at McNeese, Smith

guided the Cowgirls to their biggest win in program history with a 3-1 win over the 2011 National Champs and the 2012 preseason No. 1 ranked Arizona State Sun Devils at the Kajikawa Classic in the season opener. McNeese went on to post a 34-21 overall record and a third-place Southland Conference finish with a 12-8 record. Smith, a veteran coach, who has a national title to his credit along with more than 700 collegiate victories, was named McNeese State’s 10th head softball coach in 2012. Smith served eight years as head coach at California Baptist University, a private university located in Riverside, CA. Smith coached the Lancers (members of the Golden State Athletic Conference) into a softball powerhouse in the NAIA. In 2009 Smith’s team won the NAIA National Championship and the school participated in eight consecutive NAIA World Series, seven of which his teams made it to the final four. His 2011 squad was the national runner-up while the 2010 team placed third, the 2008 team finished fourth, the team was third in 2007, second in both 2006 and 2005, and seventh in 2004. His Lancer squads won 60 or more games each of the last four seasons with a school record 66 victories (five losses) in 2011. Smith’s teams at California Baptist also won the conference title each of his eight years as head coach.

Prior to taking the position at California Baptist he was interim head coach at UC Riverside and the four years prior to that he served as head coach at Biola (also a member of the Golden State Athletic Conference), where he won one league title, had a 50 win season, and a 10th place finish in the NAIA World Series. Smith’s l5 year coaching record is 708-207 for a .774 winning percentage and he has coached 19 all-Americans, 55 all-conference players and, 15 NAIA national scholar athletes. In 2011, he served as the head coach of the USA team that played in the Prague International Softball Championships. A graduate of The Master’s College in Santa Clarita, CA, Smith was a two-time all-district pitcher on the college baseball team and went on to play in the St. Louis Cardinal organization, reaching the Class AA level. He also played for a number of independent league teams from 1994 to 2001. Smith was a Western Baseball League pitcher of the year with the Mission Viejo (CA) team in both 1997 and 1998, and in 2000 he was the MVP of the WBL championship series with the St. George team. Smith also served as a pitching coach for the Biola baseball team from 1996-1998, and he was also a teacher and coach at Heritage Christian School in Anaheim, CA. from 1993-96 where he was head coach for baseball and boys and girls basketball, an assistant

coach in football, and an assistant athletic director. Smith is married, and he and his wife Ellen have two children, Ashlee and Tyler.

Joanna Hardin is in her second season as an assistant coach and works primarily with the Cowgirl pitchers and catchers. In her first season with the Cowgirls (2013), Hardin guided the pitching staff to a top ten national ranking and number one ranking in the Southland Conference in ERA at 1.79. In addition, the Cowgirls led the conference in saves (6) and finished second in strikeouts (364). Senior leader, Meagan Bond finished 2013 ranked fourth in the nation in walks allowed per seven innings (0.75) and ninth in ERA at 1.27. Jamie Allred completed her rookie season ranked fifth in the Southland Conference with an ERA of 2.07. Both Bond and Allred tied for second in the SLC in wins with 18 each, and were honored with all Conference recognition (First Team, Third Team respectively). Hardin, a native of Fullerton, CA.,

played softball collegiately at Biola University in La Mirada, California from 2001-2005. While at Biola, and under the leadership of current McNeese Head Softball Coach, Mike Smith, Hardin was named to the NFCA and NAIA All-American first team in 2002 and finished her career as a three-time first team All-Golden State Athletic Conference and first team All-Region III selection. Hardin began her coaching career as the head coach at Whittier Christian High School, in La Habra, CA, from 2005-2007. While also teaching full time at WCHS, Hardin helped guide the Heralds to an Olympic League Championship Title in 2006. From 2007-09, Hardin served as assistant coach at Liberty University (Lynchburg, VA.) where she oversaw the pitching staff, conducted camps and clinics, and organized daily practices. In her two years at Liberty, the team finished the 2008 and 2009 season as the Big South Conference Tournament Runners-up. Under Hardin’s tutelage, Tiffani Smith (2011 graduate), was

selected to the First Team All- Big South Conference in her sophomore year, the first Flame to receive such honor since 2001. After earning her Master’s Degree from Liberty University, Hardin started and coached a successful 12U/14U travel team, The Virginia Titans, in 2009. In 2010, while coaching the Titans, Hardin also served as head coach at Jefferson Forest High School. She led the Lady Cavaliers to the 2012 Seminole District Tournament Championship, a Virginia High School League Reagion III Runners-up finish, advancing the Lady Cavs to the VHSL State quarter-finals. In 2010, while coaching club and high school softball, Hardin opened and managed an indoor softball training facility in Virginia called “The Compound” where she worked primarily as a pitching and hitting instructor. Hardin and her husband, Travis, reside in Lake Charles, LA.

James Landreneau is in his second season as an assistant with the Cowgirls. Landreneau is in charge of hitting and infield as well as maintaining Cowgirl Field. In 2013, the Cowgirls posted a .968 fielding percent which ranked 36th in the nation. The Cowgirls also had a .274 team batting average and ranked fourth in the SLC with 61 doubles. Landreneau is a native of Lake Charles where for 13 years he has served as the owner and founder of Bullet baseball and softball. During this time, he has been responsible for running the baseball/

softball academy as well as managing 15 travel baseball and softball teams. He has seen his organization win over 13 state and four national championships. Landreneau has also produced over 50 college athletes in addition to six professional players. Landreneau served as an assistant softball coach at Barbe High where he was part of a Lady Bucs team that won two district championships (2011, 2012). The Lady Bucs advanced to the semifinals of the state tournament in 2011 and quarterfinals in 2012. Landreneau is a native of Mamou, La. who has lived in Lake Charles for the last 17 years. He resides in Lake Charles with his two children, Aubrey (12) and Jackson (9).

Dr. Philip C. WilliamsUniversity President

Dr. Williams earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of North Carolina, graduating with honors in history. He earned his law degree at the Columbia University School of Law in New York City. During the course of his legal profession, he practiced corporate law and served as administrative vice president and counsel for Sea World, Inc. During the

1980’s he and his wife Sandra were active writers, publishing a series of children’s mysteries, adult mysteries, and non-fiction works. In 1994, Dr. Williams returned to Chapel Hill to earn his M.P.H. and Ph.D. degrees in Health Policy and Administration. He served for one year as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, then accepted a faculty position at Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina, where he taught health law and management courses in the College of Business and was appointed to serve as Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs. He joined the staff of Methodist University in Fayetteville, North Carolina in 2003 as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College, and in 2006 he became President of the University of Montevallo in Alabama. In the spring of 2010 he was selected to serve as the 6th President of McNeese State University. Since his arrival at McNeese, he has presided over the development of a new strategic plan, which features the promotion of innovative teaching and learning, regional partnerships, service-learning opportunities, applied research, cultural engagement, and athletic excellence. He has frequently stated his desire for McNeese to play an active role in the civic and economic renaissance likely to transform Southwest Louisiana over the next five years. McNeese Facts• Established in 1939, McNeese State has an enrollment of 8,900. The university is located in Lake Charles, a city with a population of 90,000. Bruce Hemphill, former associate athletics director at the University of Wyoming and assistant to the athletics director at the University of North Carolina, was named McNeese State athletics director on Aug. 15. He is the 9th athletics director in McNeese history. “It is rare to have one candidate pull head and shoulders away from all applicants so early in the search process,” McNeese President Dr. Philip Williams said. “Bruce is a unique find and meets every

criteria that we were seeking in an athletics director. “He understands the role athletics plays in the larger university environment and he understands the difficulty we face with the athletic budget and the importance of increasing revenue through private sources and auxiliary means,” Williams said. “I am deeply honored and excited to be given the responsibility to lead the athletics department at this great university,” Hemphill said. “I plan to immerse myself in the history of McNeese State University and McNeese athletics and to meet with as many people as possible to determine what is good for McNeese.” The Sulphur, La., native has 24 years administrative experience at the collegiate and high school levels. He supervised 10 of 17 programs offered at a major Division 1 university and was responsible for budget oversight, game operations, facilities, personnel, compliance, team travel and recruiting. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Louisiana State University where he was a three-year letterman in football and won All-Academic Southeast Conference honors at wide receiver. His professional experience began at LSU where he was a graduate assistant and assistant football coach. In 1984, after serving as the supervisor for health and physi-cal education for the Louisiana Department of Education, he returned to collegiate athletics and served for two years as an assistant football coach at Louisiana Tech University. In 1987 he became the recruiting coordinator at North Carolina State University. From 1989-1990 he served as the assistant recruiting coordinator at the University of South Carolina. He joined the athletics department staff at the University of North Carolina in 1990 and served eight years as assistant to the athletics director and director of recruiting. From 1999-2003 he was associate athletics director at the University of Wyoming. In 2003 he returned to North Carolina and accepted a position as athletics director at a 4A high school, the largest classification in the state.

Athletic Support StAff Bridget Martin is in her 10th year as the university’s associate athletic director and is also in her 11th year as the coordinator of compliance for the McNeese State athletic department. She also serves as the senior woman administrator for the university.

A native of Lake Arthur, Martin had served as the McNeese women’s basketball coach. During an 11 year period she served as head basketball coach for seven seasons and four seasons as co-head coach. She is a graduate of Louisiana Tech and coached St. Louis High (Lake Charles) to a state title in 1988-89. She serves on the NCAA compliance cabinet committee and various Southland Conference committees and was recently selected as vice president of the league’s advisory council for the next two years and will assume the presidency in 2014-15.

Matthew Bonnette is in his second year as the assistant athletic director for sports information at McNeese State. A 2002 graduate of McNeese in mass communication, he

replaced his father, Louis, who retired in the summer of 2012 after a remarkable 46-year career as the school’s only SID. Bonnette spent nine years at Northwestern State as an associate SID where he won numerous LSWA awards for various media guides. Prior to NSU, he served one year as the SID at Henderson State. His 2013 football fact sheet (first place) and media guide (second place) were recognized by the LSWA this past summer. He is a member of CoSIDA, where he serves as the district coordinator for CoSIDA Academic All-America nominating and voting. He’s also a member of the NCBWA (National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association) and USBWA (United States Basketball Writers Association) as well as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. His brother, Michael, is the head SID at LSU. Before getting into the sports information profession, Bonnette spent several years as commercial production manager for KPLC-TV in Lake Charles and in 2000, earned the “Best of Show” ADDY award for his commercial promoting McNeese football season tickets. Bonnette is married to the former Colene Lanier of Lake Charles and the couple has two daughters, Haley (13) and Katelyn (9).

Danielle Mayeaux, who spent the 2011-12 athletic season as a marketing intern at McNeese and helped develop and coordinate marketing plans, student rewards program, YouTube productions,

ticketing efforts and game day operations, among many other variables, has been named the athletic department’s new Director of Ticketing and Marketing. Mayeaux returns to McNeese after having spent the past season as a marketing intern and the Director of Soccer Operations at the University of Memphis, where she’ll receive her master’s degree in sport and leisure commerce May 2014. In her first stint at McNeese, Mayeaux developed marketing plans for football, base-ball, softball, and men’s and women’s basketball. She also managed and directed all social media outlets which saw its followers increase by 83% and “likes” by 151%. She managed the “Blue Blaze” student rewards program, created and developed weekly YouTube productions, coordinated Rowdy’s JV Team kids club, helped design game programs and media guide covers as well as schedule cards, assisted in all ticketing operations including single-game, group and season ticket sales, and performed game day operations and facility duties.

Mayeaux is a 2011 graduate and women’s soccer student athlete of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and a minor in histo-ry. She began her sport marketing career at Dulins Sports Academy where she designed marketing plans and managed three summer soccer camps.

Art Woods is the newest addition to the McNeese State athletic department as an assistant athletics director for business operations.

Woods, a graduate of Western Michigan University with a degree in business administration, comes to McNeese from Central State

University where he served as both a budget analyst for academic affairs and a football coach.At CSU, he managed and coordinated the preparation and implementation of the

Division of the Division of Academic Affairs budget, including budget development, monitoring, analyzing, revenue forecasting, analyzing budget requests, assessing financial impact of major policy, and fiscal and operational issues.

As a coach at CSU, he coached the tight ends in 2012 and defensive backs in 2013.Prior to joining CSU, he was the owner and president of The Art Group where he

provided consultation to various small business organizations with regards to establishing operating efficiencies, while assisting them in the area of better business practices. He also offered accounting, marketing strategies, financial reporting and tax services.

Woods has also been employed as the senior budget accountant for the Cranbrook Ed-ucational Community in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; administrative accountant III for the Black Family Development in Detroit; budgetary control manager for the City of Highland Park in Highland, Mich.; senior accountant for Lear Corporation, Ford Division in Dear-born, Mich. and as a budget analyst for Wayne State University in the College of Education.

Garrett Thibodeaux joins McNeese after working as a ticket Office representative at Oklahoma State University for the 2012-2013 season. While there, he was responsible for preparing daily deposits, processing renewals and ticket requests, printing and mailing tickets,

supervising student staff, and working game day events. Thibodeaux is a graduate of LSU, where he worked all four years as a student worker in the LSU Ticket Office. As a student worker, he was able to gain valuable skills and experience the importance of proper ticket office operations. He was responsible for the packaing and shipping over 17,000 season tickets, assisting in game day parking and ticketing, and managing the parking budget. In order to complete his undergraduate course work at LSU, Thibodeaux worked as an intern in the McNeese Athletic Department where he had the opportunity to work in several areas of athletics including event management, sports information, marketing, and ticketing.

Dr. Michael Soileau serves as the university faculty representative for the Southland Conference and the NCAA. He is a 1988 graduate of McNeese State and earned his masters degree from the university in 1990.

He obtained his PhD from Texas A&M-Commerce in 1994. He is currently the university’s department head of Health and Human Performance, the Director of Recreation and an associate professor. Dr. Soileau also handles the clock and score keeping at McNeese basketball games. He and his wife Pauline have three children, Logan, Cameron and Mattie.

Amanda Wilhite joined the McNeese State staff in August of 2012 as the new Academic Counselor.

Wilhite earned her M.A. in English from Arizona State University, and while at ASU, she worked in the Office of Student-Athlete Development for Sun Devil Athletics for two years. During her time with OSAD, she specialized in working with football, wrestling, men’s golf, and men’s and women’s track and field. She received two bachelor’s degrees from Sam Houston State, one in english and another in criminal justice. A native of Paris, Texas, Amanda enjoys reading, learning new languages, and antagonizing her two cats, Gwen and Macbeth.

Andrea King joined the McNeese State staff in August of 2013 serving as the athletics department study lab coordinator. As lab coordinator, King will oversee daily operations of the lab, will oversee the “At-Risk” student-ath-lete program, tutor students, monitor grades and academic progress of student-athletes as well as send weekly reports to coaches on academic

progress. She communicates with professors on student-athlete’s academic progress and manages student workers The native of Fayette, Mo., earned her bachelor degree in Biology from Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo. in 2004 and her master degree in Forestry, Wildlife Habitat Management from Stephen F. Austin in 2007. Prior to McNeese, King spent one year as an educator at the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island. King also had stints at Stephen F. Austin as a biology teacher and a lab technician, chemistry teaching assistant at Central Methodist University. King also served as a microbiologist at Aquatic Energy, LLC, and served as an Avian Technician at Auburn University and the University of Missouri. King completed her graduate research partnering with the Missouri Department of Conservation. She and husband Jon currently reside in Westlake, La.

Penny Brown currently serves as the Assistant Compliance Officer at McNeese State. She has been in this position for nine years. Her daily responsibilities include organizing the daily operations of the compliance office under the direction of the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance.

Brown is a long time McNeese State Athletics staffer, having served in various roles throughout her tenure. She has been with McNeese for a total of 25 years.

Joined the McNeese State Athletics staff in April 2013 when she was appointed as the administrative assistant for the Cowgirl Soccer, Softball & Tennis teams. She oversees the day to day operations, including travel

& recruiting for these sports while assisting the coaching staff with various administrative duties.

Pam LaFosse is now in her 22nd season as the assistant sports information director at McNeese State. She handles sports information for all of the women’s sports as well as helping with men’s football, basketball and track and field. She produces

media guides, programs and news releases for all of the women’s sports. A native of Gueydan, LaFosse is a graduate of McNeese State and is a former Cowgirl athlete, having been a four year letter winner in basketball.

Steve Sanford has been involved with FCA since he attended summer camp in high school. He understands the great influence coaches and athletes can have on a culture when they are living for Jesus Christ. He has been a self-em-ployed businessman since 1976 when he moved to Southwest Louisiana to

carry on the family business of graduation supplies and class rings. Steve and his wife, Denise, have been volunteering for FCA since 1985 in area high schools and began a huddle at McNeese State University in 2003. In 2005, with the help of a volunteer board of area christian business men and women, Southwest Lousiana became an official FCA area. Since 2008, Steve has served as the Area Director for Southwest Louisiana FCA along with continuing to run his business with the help of his two sons and business partner, Charlie Phillips, who are all also volunteers for the local FCA ministry. Charlie is the area volunteer for FCA Baseball. Steve’s oldest son, Clint, is the Southwest Louisiana Huddle Leader for FCA Endurance and a SWLA FCA Advisory Board member. Steve’s youngest son, Cris, hosts a weekly bible study for McNeese State University student athletes and also serves on the Advisory Board. Steve serves as the chaplain for all the teams at McNeese State University and hosts a monthly MSU coaches and administrative staff Champions Luncheon. He and Denise were married in 1974 and have three grown and married children, all of whom are actively involved in the FCA ministry. They are also the proud Dude and Meme to eight beautiful grandchildren.

Cathy Devillier was named Assistant to the Director of Athletics in 2009 after serving as the Administrative Assistant in the Cowboy Basketball, Cowgirl Volleyball and Golf programs since 2006. Prior to her tenure in athletics, Devillier worked in the Accounting office at McNeese State.

In her current responsibilities, Devillier is responsible for assisting the Director of Athletics in daily operations including overseeing the administrative responsibilities of the department. Devillier is also responsible for overseeing the department’s administrative assistants, as well as assisting them in their various day to day operations. She is a native of Lake Charles and is a graduate of LaGrange High School. She and her husband Mike have two children, Josh, 29 and Shelby 19.

Hunter Bower is in his second full season as a member of the McNeese sports information department. A native of Haynesville, La., Bower is the primary SID contact for the Cowgirls’ soccer team as well as the McNeese baseball squad. He was recently recognized by the Louisiana Sports Writers Asso-

ciation after he placed third for his 2013 McNeese Tennis Media Guide in the Division IV Category publications contest.

McNeeSe iN the clASSrooM Cowgirl senior outfielder Alanna DiVittorio was named to the Captial One District 6 All-Academic team as a first team selection in 2013. DiVittorio was also selected to the first team in 2012. Junior pitcher Bianca Lilly recently received her bachelors degree in Criminal Justice in the fall and is currently working on her masters degree in Psychology. Softball placed 16 players on the 2013 Southland Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll and nine were named to the NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) All-America Scholar-Athlete team.

Sports Medicine Center is an ultra-modern facility and one of the finest in the South. It is named after longtime McNeese athletic trainer Dowell Fontenot (pictured left) who was also a national champion boxer during his undergraduate days at the university and who is a member of the McNeese Hall of Fame.

The center is located just south of the McNeese athletic fieldhouse. Funds for the 6,200 square foot medical center were obtained from the state, from private donations and from the McNeese PetroChem Athletic Association.

The Charles Kuehn Weight Room at the Jack Doland Field House was outfitted by Life Fitness Company and Hammer Strength Company who made the 8,000 square foot room a showcase weight facility. Weights are painted in platinum and blue and there are 16 Mondo enlayed platforms for heavy weight work, one of only eight schools in the nation to have this.

The weight room also includes: 16 multi-purpose racks, 80,000 pounds of weights (McNeese logo on the weights), nine 52-inch flat screen television sets, mirrors all the way around, two treadmills, two elliptical machines, a stationary bike and a $12,000 surround sound system donated by Scott Bailey and Bailey Audio. A 12-foot McNeese logo sets off the room from the center floor. The facility is named in honor of McNeese State’s first football all-American who is pictured above.

The H.I.T (Hitting Indoor Training) is the Cowgirls’ indoor batting cages and training facility. The cages were closed in prior to the 2012 season with funds donated by two McNeese Booster Clubs- The Cowboy Club and The Petro Chem.

Keri Riggs (left) was named to the all-South Region team in 1994 and 1995. Riggs is the first Cowgirl to play professional softball. She was a member of the 1997 Orlando Wahoos’ inaugural team.

Bethany Stefinsky set a new single season strikeout record in 2009 with 304. She was named to the All-SLC, SLC All-Tournament, All-Louisiana teams as well as team MVP that same year.

HALL OF FAMERS Former softball and basketball standout Ann Roubique was inducted into McNeese State’s Hall of Fame in 2001. Roubique is the first softball player and the third women’s basketball player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The four year letterwinner in softball and basketball, Roubique spent most of her adult lifte at McNeese. Roubique also spent six years as assistant women’s basketball coach (1985-90) and three as head women’s tennis coach (1985-87). As an athlete, Roubique was the 1979 MVP after batting .439 with seven home runs and helped her team’s capture the Louisiana Championships in 1979 and 1981. She was also a three time All-Louisiana selection.

Former softball player and softball coach Cherilyn Lantrip is the most recent female athlete inducted into the McNeese Hall of Fame. Lantrip was inducted in 2004. At one time, she held the career records for runs scored and home runs as well as most doubles in a game with three. She was a three-time All-Louisiana selection and team MVP. The four year letterwinner was also a member of two Louisiana Championship teams (1979 & 1981). As a coach, Lantrip coached the Cowgirls for two seasons (1986 & ‘87), compiling a 42-38 won-loss record and led McNeese to a third place finish in the SLC both seasons. Cherilyn Lantrip
