MINECRAFT CLUB with Teacher Matthew Pfester

By Kai Foti

What is Minecraft? Minecraft is a game where you play with all different types of tools. You try to make different things in the game. I am making a diamond and glass house. I am also making a trap door in the house for sneaky people. Red stone is advanced technology in Minecraft. You can even make an elevator in Minecraft! It’s really fun.

There are two modes you can play: creative and survival. In creative you can do anything you want to do, from flying to building a diamond house. But in survival you can’t fly, and you have limited resources. You have to find food and make a living space to get away from the monsters at night.

So ask your parents if you can get Minecraft PC edition. It’s only $26.95! You used to be able to download Minecraft for free as an app, but now you have to pay for it. My username is MLGPRO6969, so look out for me! Below is my teacher, Mr. Pfester, and an example of my MINECRAFT house.

Movie Club by Lawrence Yao

Have you ever watched a movie? Have you ever wondered about the process of

how movies are made? Well if you joined Movie Club then you’ll find how we do

it. Inside Movie Club we watch movies, review them and also… MAKE OUR

OWN! Yes in Movie Club they have made a movie and submitted it to the

SONYC Movie Competition. Movie Club has more originality than any of our

other clubs. The director and president of Movie Club, Jake Delpriore and the Co-

President Lawrence Yao made it. They thought of it, and wanted to have fun and

do new exciting things that we hadn’t done before.

Movie Club by Daniel Cohen Hello, in this issue of SONYC/NYCID I’d like to tell you about Movie Club.

Mr. John directs the movie club. Jake Delproire came up with the idea of movie

club and Lawrence Yao is the co-leader. At movie club, SONYC/NYCID

students can watch movies, make movies and discus about movies in movie

club. In class, students can recommend movies or TV shows to watch. I like

movie club because you can watch movies with your friends.

FIBER ARTS

BY ANUSHA HARIS

One of the best classes for NYCID/SONYC is Fiber

Art. The teacher is Ms. Gross. This class is amazing

because you learn a lot of things, such as sewing,

knitting and weaving. In most of our work we used

yarn. The best thing about the yarn is that it is so

colorful and fun to work with.

There are many more things that we will learn in this

class. So far I have made an embroidered pillow with

leftover fabric and embroidery thread, and ribbon.

The colors were white, purple, and red. One girl

made a pillow to look like a small, green piggy.

NYCID/SONYC Website Design Club

BY Gabrielle Hanna

NYCID/SONYC’s Web Design Club is a very interesting club to be in. It’s all about, well, blogs…you can make a blog about anything you want on WordPress.com. Ms. Rorke teaches it. In my opinion she is really nice, because we can blog about whatever we are interested in!

I like it because I get to express my thoughts and what’s happening to and around me on my blog, and others can read about it. I also like the fact that other people can follow your blog. I get to learn how to make my own blog, and how to post posts and comment on other people’s writing. I feel like it’s a good way to have a conversation with anybody out there (family, friends, and more!), through writing posts and commenting on others, and replying to those comments. It’s kind of like twitter, except it’s the blogs and comments that make up these conversations.

WEB BLOG CLUB By Antonino Giordano

I like my club because it’s awesome!! I go to NYCID afternoon school and I do only one club. I really like Web Design because I can blog about things, and tell people about my life.

I also like Web Design because it’s so fun and cool. I have never seen this blog website in my life! I like to do this because it is on a computer, which is an electronic! Who doesn’t like electronics?

Anyway, I haven’t signed up for any other classes because I have a lot to do during the week. This is a school activity at I.S.48, so you can join anytime!

Sculpture Club is a club in the SONYC program at I.S.48. In this club, we make anything that comes to our mind out of recycled materials. For example, we use cardboard, bottles and so on, to make our sculptures. This club is really fun to do. And who ever got the idea of this club, is a genius. And people should see what crazy creations that these kids make. From cars to robots to even life-sized models of Michael Jordan!

SONYC was really generous to make a club as fun as this one. In my opinion, it is one of the most fun clubs in the SONYC program. Also, everyone participates in this club, 6th and 7th grade. So creations are sure to get done fast. I’m sure everyone likes this club as well as I do.
