AIMS Test Administration Procedures

Page 20: 1 Arizona Pre-Test High School Training TerraNova – 9 th Grade AIMS Writing, Reading & Math

20

AIMS Testing Protocol• The AIMS test is not timed.

• Approximate times represent the estimated time necessary for the vast majority of students to complete the test.

• Arrangements must be made to allow students to have as much time as is needed to finish the test.

• No AIMS testing session may carry over to the next school day.

Page 21: 1 Arizona Pre-Test High School Training TerraNova – 9 th Grade AIMS Writing, Reading & Math

32

During TestingActive proctoring includes:

• Confirming that only the appropriate students test

• Verifying that students testing on both Writing and Reading use the same answer document for both days

• Maintaining the scannability of the answer documents

Page 33: 1 Arizona Pre-Test High School Training TerraNova – 9 th Grade AIMS Writing, Reading & Math

33

During Testing Active proctoring also includes:

• Maintaining accurate sign-ins and test material inventory.

• Watching for student misconduct.

Testing Accommodations Inside Cover of AIMS Answer Document

See Pg. 40 of AIMS HS Test Administration Directions

Note: ThereAre 2 mistakes Here:

#1. 504s can not have a scribe for writing

#2. There is no such thing this year as :”another alternate accommodation….on”

Page 49: 1 Arizona Pre-Test High School Training TerraNova – 9 th Grade AIMS Writing, Reading & Math

49

TerraNova Answer Documents

• There are no bar code labels for TN.

• Most students will have a pre-coded answer document – no demographics need to be filled in

• If there is no pre-coded answer document for

a student, then fill in all student-identifying information on a blank answer document – see slide 50.

• If student has used an accommodation, then boxes AA and possibly BB must be filled in on answer document – see slide 51.

Page 50: 1 Arizona Pre-Test High School Training TerraNova – 9 th Grade AIMS Writing, Reading & Math

50

Filling in Demographics on TerraNova Answer Document

Note: There are two sections that we do not fill in: “InView Level” and “Special Codes”, so ignore these sections

This detail (Level 19, Form C) is not in the Teacher Directions

This information is taken directly from the Test Coordinator Manual – Pg. 14. It also can be found in the Test Directions for Teachers on Pg. 6, but it is not as user friendly

52

HS Science Field Test • This test is given to students in Cohort 09

who are enrolled in a Life Science course that is aligned with Strand 4 of the Arizona Science Standards in selected schools.

• The test administrator or proctor will have to advise students taking the test on how to fill in the bubble on the answer document related to the course they took last year.

• Administration time is approximately one hour.

• Students must be allowed to finish the test.

Page 53: 1 Arizona Pre-Test High School Training TerraNova – 9 th Grade AIMS Writing, Reading & Math

53

HS Science Field Test

• There are five numbered forms.

• Answer documents must be bubbled with the correct form number to indicate which form students used for the test.

• Test administrators or proctors must ensure that each student bubbles the correct form number on the answer document.

Page 54: 1 Arizona Pre-Test High School Training TerraNova – 9 th Grade AIMS Writing, Reading & Math

54

HS Science Field Test

• “In what kind of Science course were you enrolled in last year?”

• Life Science• Physical Science• Combination• None

Returning Test Materials to TUSD Warehouse

Page 56: 1 Arizona Pre-Test High School Training TerraNova – 9 th Grade AIMS Writing, Reading & Math

56

Critical Dates for Return of Test Materials

• March 1, 2, and 5 for early return of AIMS W/R answer documents (scorables).

• March 8, 9, 12 for return of remaining AIMS W/R scorables and non-scorables.

• April 12, 13, 16 for early return of AIMS Math scorables.

• April 18, 19 for return of all other test materials (scoreables & non-scorables for AIMS Math, TN, and Science.

• PLEASE CALL BERT (617-8187) TO SET UP A TIME SLOT TO RETURN MATERIALS.

Page 57: 1 Arizona Pre-Test High School Training TerraNova – 9 th Grade AIMS Writing, Reading & Math

57

Returning and Checking-In Test Materials

• Each set of tests (W/R and Math) has an early return time immediately after the test dates .

• Then after each make-up test date, the remaining test materials are returned.

• So for each round of testing you will need to make two trips to the warehouse to check in your test materials.

• It is imperative that you be on time for the time slot you have selected. If you arrive late, we most likely will need to reschedule you. We are on a very tight timeline this year.

Page 58: 1 Arizona Pre-Test High School Training TerraNova – 9 th Grade AIMS Writing, Reading & Math

58

Packaging Scorables and Non-Scorables

Scorables:• Answer documents that are to be scored are considered scorables and need to be boxed and labeled separately.• Do not mix any scorables with non-scorables – may result in lost

tests and/or late-receipt scoring fees.

Non-Scorables:• Test books and unused barcode-labels are considered non-scorable and should be boxed and labeled separately.• Keep all unused or damaged answer documents grouped together and returned with the used answer document.

NOTE: Box test materials in the original boxes sent to you – these must be used for return of materials to CTB.

Page 59: 1 Arizona Pre-Test High School Training TerraNova – 9 th Grade AIMS Writing, Reading & Math

59

Organizing the AIMS Answer Documents• Check bar-code label placement.

• Check back of answer document: - if there is a label then nothing should be filled in on back - if there is no label then the back should be filled in

• Check answer documents to ensure loose sheets of paper, paper clips, or sticky notes have not been left inside.

• Check test booklets to ensure answer documents have not been left inside.

Page 60: 1 Arizona Pre-Test High School Training TerraNova – 9 th Grade AIMS Writing, Reading & Math

60

Organizing the AIMS Answer Documents

• All answer documents must be separated by content area and then by cohort.

• Answer documents should be arranged face-up and separated by colored sheets of paper.

• Unused or damaged answer documents need to be grouped together and returned with the scorable (used) answer documents.

• Do not band answer documents in any way.

Page 61: 1 Arizona Pre-Test High School Training TerraNova – 9 th Grade AIMS Writing, Reading & Math

61

Organizing the AIMS Answer Documentsfor Field Tests (If Applicable)

• Keep field test (Science) materials separated from regular AIMS Writing/Reading and Math.

• Just like regular AIMS test materials, keep scorables (used) boxed separately from non-scorables.

• Bring in Science Field Test test materials at the same time as the AIMS Math Make-ups.

Page 62: 1 Arizona Pre-Test High School Training TerraNova – 9 th Grade AIMS Writing, Reading & Math

62

Organizing the TerraNova Answer Documents

• Confirm that Testing Accommodations (Sections AA and BB) if needed have been filled in on all

answer documents.• Verify that all student-identifying information on non pre-coded answer documents has been filled in.• Check answer documents to ensure loose sheets of paper, paper clips, or sticky notes have not been left inside.• Check test booklets to ensure answer

documents have not been left inside.• Answer documents should be arranged

face-up.• Do not band or clip answer documents .

Page 63: 1 Arizona Pre-Test High School Training TerraNova – 9 th Grade AIMS Writing, Reading & Math

63

Need-to-Know & Need-to-Remember

• Use of scratch paper for AIMS is a test violation.

• Students must use a No. 2 graphite pencil to mark their answers – answers written in ink will not be scored.

• Test coordinators and administrators are responsible for reading the test administration directions thoroughly – “No one told me that,” can not be an excuse used if a test violation occurs.

• Students who become ill and must leave during the test administration of any AIMS content area are ineligible to continue the test for that content area or to make-up that testing session (See page 8 of Test Administration Directions).
