Job Title: Assistant to the Director of International Courses

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Main responsibilities of the job

This role is to work closely with the Director International Courses in order to provide academic support as required, including the development of syllabi, schemes of work, materials and resources appropriate to the diverse groups of international students that come to the colleges.

To support teachers to deliver high quality programmes through supporting their planning and preparation of materials.

You are responsible for delivering and planning engaging English lessons as part of the normal teaching programme.

Responsible for adapting, developing and extending existing programmes and schemes of work for the College in support of the Director International Courses.

Teaching Duties

Teaching and related duties as directed by the Director International Courses.

Teachers on a full time contract (37.5 hours) to include:- Actual teaching. The exact number of teaching sessions will depend on the fluctuating demands of your workload but will not exceed 23 contact hours per week.- Invigilating and supervising examinations.- Timetabled tutorial and supervision work with individuals or groups including scheduled trips.

Deliver lessons which are consistently “good”. Hold and attend teacher development workshops, meetings and briefings as

required. Write reports as required.

Keep class registers and other administrative paperwork up to date and submitted by the deadlines set.

Any other teaching duties reasonably delegated by the Director.

Academic Support to Director International Courses

Assist the Director by providing administrative and academic support – e.g., assisting in placing students in class and preparing testing materials.

Provide the first line of support to teachers - e.g., helping them in their planning and preparation of their lessons. Providing support to teachers to help develop their skills.

Develop, plan, implement, adapt and review course programmes, schemes of work and lesson plans in liaison with the Director and others.

Materials development and collating existing materials Preparing trip preparation materials & materials for teachers Creating and maintaining attractive displays in the college Proofing timetables and rotas Help to draft course schedules Developing syllabi and schemes of work Conducting staff development sessions Helping to induct new members of staff Carrying out pre-course facilities check and ordering of classroom stock/ resources Prepare and distribute weekly class registers and files and amend class registers and

lists when required. Prepare and distribute weekly course feedback questionnaires and collate results. Monitor daily record sheets and registers to ensure they are being filled in correctly

Activities, excursions and pastoral care duties(This role is not usually required to take part in daytime activities due to their academic support duties)

Participate actively, enthusiastically and effectively in all activities as required Help source materials for afternoon, evening and weekend activities as required.

Assist in monitoring and maintaining student discipline. Ensure the safety of the students at all times. Act as the duty member of staff in absence of the Director. Work with enthusiasm and to the standard expected by Chaucer College.

General Duties

Ensure that students do not breach the rules of the College. Engage with students in a friendly but professional manner. Ensure student behaviour is of the required standard and that non-accidental

damage is kept to a minimum. Assist at any time, whether on duty or not, with an emergency situation or where a

student is ill, inured or absent without permission When instructed by the Director, arrange, transport and accompany students and

leaders to and from medical appointments as required. Welcoming new students on arrival and seeing students off for departures on a rota

if required Be responsible for ensuring that students are safe, happy and participating both in

and out of the classroom. Answering and responding to phone calls as required Setting up computers for teachers to use and assisting with general IT issues Other duties as reasonably required (fire drills for students, etc.)

(This job description may be amended from time to time to meet the needs of the business and the employee may be asked to undertake additional duties as necessary.)

The postholder will be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the business which may result in working in excess of 37.5 hours per week. When this happens ‘time off in lieu’ will be given at a later date. This may also require a change in the working week at certain times of year.

Person Specification:Essential

Knowledge & Experience

Teaching Experience, English Foreign Language Teaching preferred. Minimum 3 years

Computer literate, experience using Word, Excel & Outlook.

Current experience of working with International, junior and adult students

Proven current experience of design and development of courses and learning programmes

Knowledge and experience of safeguarding issues.

Skills, abilities & attitude

Excellent teaching skills with a professional attitude to teaching

Excellent written communication & organisational skills. Effective verbal communication, presentation and listening skills
