NAMO MAHA BHÉ KA DZÉ YA ! To practice this, one first gathers the accumulations by offering whatever peaceful offerings one can afford, such as a mandala before a representation of the Medicine Buddha. If this is not practicable, it is quite alright to visualise the Medicine Buddha vividly present before oneself and then mentally create offerings. In this case, one does not require any objects. This particular Sadhana belongs to the fourth class of Tantra; the Lamay tradition of the supreme Yoga Tantra for which there are no special requirements such as abstinence from meat or alcohol, or any need to practice purification such as bathing, drinking blessed water, cleaning rituals, etc. are not necessary. Nevertheless, as it belongs to the unsurpassable teaching of the Mantrayana, one definitely needs to have obtained empowerment (Wang) and scriptural authority (Lung) in order to practice. To practice this, one first gathers the accumulations by offering whatever peaceful offerings one can afford, such as a mandala before a representation of the Medicine Buddha. If this is not practicable, it is quite alright to visualise the Medicine Buddha vividly present before oneself and then mentally create offerings. In this case, one does not require any objects. This particular Sadhana belongs to the fourth class of Tantra; the Lamay tradition of the supreme Yoga Tantra for which there are no special requirements such as abstinence from meat or alcohol, or any need to practice purification such as bathing, drinking blessed water, cleaning rituals, etc. are not necessary. Nevertheless, as it belongs to the unsurpassable teaching of the Mantrayana, one definitely needs to have obtained empowerment (Wang) and scriptural authority (Lung) in order to practice. This additional part was inserted into the Treasure of the Enlightened Mind (gong ter) and was gathered by Raga Asya (Karma Chagme Rinpoche), who gave a summary of the text Namchö. I confess any contradictions or mistakes in front of the deities. By this virtue may all beings be quickly free from all disease and may they attain the condition of the Medicine Buddha. In the context of Sutrayana practices, normally before anything else, we have to do cleansing ritual. This additional part was inserted into the Treasure of the Enlightened Mind (gong ter) and was gathered by Raga Asya (Karma Chagme Rinpoche), who gave a summary of the text Namchö. I confess any contradictions or mistakes in front of the deities. By this virtue may all beings be quickly free from all disease and may they attain the condition of the Medicine Buddha. In the context of Sutrayana practices, normally before anything else, we have to do cleansing ritual. In all authentic monasteries, where the scholars are difficult to please and look for faults in most other traditions, like the one in the North, NGAM RING PAL KHOR CHÖ, and so forth, the only ritual that has been spread as a puja for the living beings and clearing away the obscurations of the deceased, is this ritual of Medicine Buddha. Even the ceremony that is made in front of the Jowo Temple in Lhasa, “Tibet´s Bodhgaya”, and in front of the Great Bodhisattva of Samye, is the practice of Medicine Buddha. In this way, you can be sure that there is no practice that is more beneficial. This is true as much for the new schools of Tibetan Buddhism as for the old school (the Nyingma), at the level of both Sutra and Mantra.
