A Special Visitor

What's Behind My Name?

The first graders had the zechus of having a chushava visitor in their classroom when Rabbi Zev Leff, Rav of Moshav Matisyahu, Eretz Yisrael came to see a day in his grand-

son, Dovi Leff’s first grade classroom. The talmidim sang some songs in honor of the occa-sion and then Rabbi Leff had the opportunity to speak to the boys. He explained the importance of learning Torah in a mashal that they could all appreciate. “Just like car needs to have gas to be able to roll, the world needs Torah for it to be able to exist,” he told the first graders. Be-sides for the sweet words of Torah that Rabbi Leff shared, each talmid received a special treat from Rabbi Leff who was impressed with the fact that the boys remembered to say thank you as well as a bracha out loud.

What's in your name? When pre-sented with the thought provok-ing question, Rabbi Biller's third graders forged ahead to discover the answer. The talmidim were given a project form which was used to write a short essay about the person they are named after. There was also space to include a picture of both the talmid and his namesake. Stay tuned be-cause once all the submissions are in, the pages will be made into an impressive booklet. The boys will then take turns bringing the book home to show with their families. Sampled:

Baruch Hashem, Chasdei Hashem, B'ez-ras Hashem, Im Yirtzah Hashem: Rabbi Myski's first graders are bring-ing Hashem into their day to day lives by learning to constantly mention His name. They also have striking posters hanging in their classroom which the talmidim can take in throughout the day to remind them even more and to also help them remember the yesod of emunah.

A Peek into Upcoming YKOR Calendar

Outside it was cold and snowy, but inside, the homes of YKOR students were filled with the warmth and the glow of Torah. On Thursday, when school was closed due to dangerous driving conditions, a majority of the talmidim from many classes were able to call in using the class conference number. The talmidim started off with a perek of tehillim as a zechus for the safety of all of those who had to be out on such a treacherous day. The seventh grad-

ers then reviewed the entire gemara twice for the upcom-ing bechina on Sunday, starting from line one and going all the way through to line 30. The conference line was peppered with talmidim taking turns sharing jokes after they finished a section of the gemara.

The “Beshivtecha Bevaisecha Program” also played a big part on the snow day. This “Snow Day Program” includes talmidim davening everything that they daven in class, learning, saying brachos out loud, helping out and more… Thursday’s lesson was a powerful one and as pristine as the new fallen snow - there is no such thing as taking a vacation from Torah!
