TABLE OF CONTENTS

..................................................

We are excited to share our CTE programs with you. LISD provides so many opportunities for you to explore your interests and determine the best pathway for your future. We have something for everyone—you may want to go to college, nursing school, technical school, or straight to work. No matter what your dream for your future might be, CTE can help you prepare. We offer strong pathways on our campuses and at the Advanced Technology Center. Our programs are identified by 15 career cluster areas with multiple pathways for careers within each

cluster area. We have 150 different classes that are hands-on and that apply to your future career.

We have many community partners who support our programs at the ATC. Their investment in our students’ future and our future workforce has allowed us to convert all of the space that was occupied by South Plains College. Over the last two summers, we have added an advanced culinary

lab and classroom, plumbing lab, electrical lab, health lab, courtroom area for law, welding lab, floral lab, and expanded our Ready, Set, Teach and IT classrooms. I want to thank our community partners who provided the funding to remodel the ATC and begin new programs.

Lubbock Economic Development Alliance The CH Foundation Helen Jones Foundation Workforce Solutions United Supermarkets Texas Workforce Commission

I also would like to thank our business and industry partners who serve on our fifteen Industry Leadership Councils. We have more than 200 representatives that meet with our teachers and counselors twice per year and provide input on programs, curriculum, industry certifications, and industry updates.

We are looking forward to another great year. Please contact us if you have questions or would like a tour of the Advanced Technology Center. Talk to your counselor about Career and Technical Education and how we can help you prepare for your future.

CTE Career Pathways provide all students with a road map to discover and prepare for specific careers. Each pathway allows students to explore specialized interests and passions through customized programs of study. Career Pathways help students make smarter choices about their decisions after graduation. Students can randomly explore within different pathways or focus on a specific program of study. Either way, students have the opportunity to discover a future career goal and begin learning the knowledge and skills needed for success.

Brief Explanation of Career Pathways Principle classes provide an overview of the clusters of all careers within the pathway.

Red boxes represent the first class within a program of study.

Green boxes represent choices for the next class within the sequence.

Purple & Turquoise classes are the advanced courses in the program of study.

Navy Blue boxes represent internships.

Classes marked with the Black Circle symbol are taught at the Byron Martin Advanced Technology Center.

Make sure you check to see which classes have prerequisites.

DID YOU KNOW?

With community support of the LISD bond package in November, we are excited about the possibilities of the new CTE Agri-STEM facility. This will provide additional classrooms, lab space and animal farm facilities. The lab spaces will provide hands-on opportunities for students in a variety of classes. New farm facilities will include new animal pens and a show barn. The new facility will allow access for all LISD students to participate in our Ag program.

Health Services is one of the largest

industries in the country with more than 11 million jobs, including the self-employed. The health services industry includes establishments ranging from small-town private practice physicians who employ only one medical assistant to busy inner city hospitals that provide thousands of diverse jobs. More than half of all non-hospital health service establishments employ fewer than five workers. On the other hand, almost two-thirds of hospital employees were in establishments with more than 10,000 workers.

We are excited to share with you the wonderful programs and opportunities that we have available at the Byron

Martin Advanced Technology Center. I am Lisa Dudding, Assistant Director of Career and Technical Education and the ATC Administrator. It is a privilege and honor to work in such a wonderful school district that whole-heartily supports Career and Technical Education. We have the opportunity to serve all students in grades 10-12 from all five of our high schools. We have a state-of-the art facility where we pro-vide comprehensive course offerings that bring Career and Technical Education to a whole new level, while “Instilling a Vision for the Future” for our students.

Celebrating 21 years, the Bryon Martin Advanced Technology Center (ATC) began its partnership between Lubbock ISD, South Plains College and Market Lubbock (now LEDA) with one idea in mind. This idea evolved into preparing students to enter the workforce with a wide range of high-wage, high-skill, and high-demand career choices through Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes. Our goal is to teach our students the skills they need to address the requirements of high-growth industries and yield large returns for our city, region and state’s economy. The skilled trades are the hardest jobs to fill in the United States and the ATC is providing students with the training needed to fulfill these high demand jobs.

We have outstanding teachers who are highly skilled and trained in each of their respective teaching areas. Our instructors provide students with cutting-edge, relevant, rigorous, hands-on and real-world applications that prepare them to enter the workforce or post-secondary education. It is our special teachers that trans-form students’ lives and instills a clear vision for our students to become our next future business leaders. Our goal is to increase academic performance as well as motivation and engagement in the classroom. Our students have the opportunity to work as an apprentice or do an internship in their chosen pathway. We want our students to gain valuable employability skills while earning industry certifications and licensures, so they are ready for the global market.

Students enrolled in courses at the ATC take two consecutive classes or one double-blocked course at a time. Students are at the ATC for two periods a day, or more, if they have room in their schedule. By taking two consecutive classes at the ATC will allow plenty of time for students to develop their problem-solving skills, teamwork skills, leadership skills, and critical thinking skills. Students have time to work on projects, do research and develop marketing strategies, which is beneficial to student and teacher. Lubbock ISD provides transportation to and from the ATC with buses available at every high school throughout the day, or students may drive their own vehicle to the ATC.

For more information about our course offerings and how to enroll at the ATC, please visit with your counselor or check our course offerings on our LISD web-site. If you have additional questions, you may contact me at 806.219.2807. We look forward to having you on our campus, because we want to help you find your passion and “Instill a Vision for the Future!”
