What does the YES Program mean to you?

Goal setting for the year

There are two types of rules:

• Probationary Rules

• Immediate Dismissive Rules

A few examples of Probationary Rules:•Less than 2 hours of community service per month

•Failure to be involved in family and school activities

•Failure to use your stipend money while in the program

•Less than a C grade in any class

As a general rule, you must obey the laws of the United States of America and the State of Iowa. If found guilty of violating any law, you will be returned home as soon as possible.

Classes: •One American History or Government class

•Take a full year of English Community Service

•At least 2 hours of Community Service /month

Every month, you will receive an envelope from IRIS. This envelope will contain:

•A letter and•A check

It is very important to read this letter

It contains very important information we need you to know about the month

We will plan some events and the details will be in those letters

$125/month•School lunches •Other personal expenses

$200 in December •To buy Christmas gifts for your host family

$200 in May•To buy gifts for your family back home

Stipend must be used in America

You only receive $125/month

It is important that you learn how to budget your money

Host families, schools, IRIS, Trip to D.C.

Host families are volunteers

Why do you think they decided to host you?

What do you think they expect from you?

Young couples with or without children

Older couples with or without children

Single parents (mother or father) with or without children of their own

Big or small

Urban or rural

Respect host family

Respect their property

Be grateful

Interact with them

Teach them about yourself and your country

American love pets. In fact, most of your families will have a pet.

American pets, dogs in particular are friendly

Americans care a lot for their pets
