FROM THE PRINCIPAL CONT……

P and C Annual General Meeting – Monday, 25th February We had a large number of parents in attendance on Monday night for the AGM. The official role of President, P & C could not be filled at this meeting. As a result, we will relinquish our affiliation with the state P & C Association. We did, however, establish a Parent Volunteer Group which will be responsible for the uniform shop, fundraising and canteen specials. Thank you to Kathryn Bennett (Treasurer), Bronwyn Grout (Secretary), Jae Park (Fundraising) and Jackie Alevras (Uniform Shop) for taking on these roles. Getting On Track In Time – ‘Got It’ ‘Got It’ is an exciting early intervention program for students in K-2 which will be implemented in Term 2. It is coordinated by the NSW Department of Health and aimed at reducing and preventing disruptive behaviours at school and home.

We are asking all K-2 parents to complete a questionnaire (sent home last week) to help identify children suitable for the program and to help evaluate the effectiveness of the ‘Got It’ program. Please return all forms to your child’s teacher by Friday, 1st March.

Based on parent and teacher questionnaires, the ‘Got It’ team will discuss with teachers those students who are likely to benefit from the program and you will be contacted if your child is suitable for inclusion. Student Mentoring Program – Waratah School This year, the Waratah Centre and Yates Avenue PS will continue with our in-school mentoring program. A student mentor from the Waratah Centre will be matched with targeted children at Yates. This program aims to encourage young people to develop skills and confidence, and find new pathways for learning. With help from a mentor, the students will further develop their self-esteem, trust and communication skills. Subway Sandwich Lunch Orders – Flexischools The P and C have organised for students to order Subway sandwiches for lunch every Friday. There will be a limited menu and sandwiches (6 inch only) will cost $6. They will be prepared at Subway, Carlingford and delivered to the school by Uber Eats, in time for the 11.15am lunch break. Payment can only be made using the Flexischools app., once you have registered. Unfortunately, the office and school website cannot accept any payments for lunch orders. The cut off time for orders has been extended to 3pm on Thursdays.

A very big thank you to Jayden’s mum, Mrs. Allanki for helping us and to the “Green Team” for helping us too. It’s a huge job but a fabulous example of teamwork in action at Yates Avenue! We plan to continue working our way through the mulch pile at the working bee this Friday afternoon. We hope you can join us!

PRESCHOOL NEWS

Over the last few weeks, we have welcomed our new preschool children and their families. A very warm welcome to everyone! The children have settled in quickly, are becoming familiar with our daily preschool routines and are enjoying meeting their new friends. They also look fabulous in their Preschool T-shirts and hats! Over the coming weeks, we will continue to support happy, positive transitions between home and Preschool and establish relationships with our children and families. We are very fortunate to have beautiful school grounds and we love spending time in our garden. Last week, a delivery of mulch arrived and gardens we enjoyed filling our buckets and mulching.
