K-6 Excursion – Tuesday, 28th November
Yesterday, we had our K-6 excursion to the movies and Auburn Botanic Gardens. Well done to the students for their safe, respectful and responsible behaviour. They proudly represented Yates Avenue PS and enjoyed a well-earned reward for a hard year of work.
Parent Working Bee Thank you to the many parents and children who helped out at the working bee on Friday, 17th November. It was an extremely productive afternoon and our school grounds now look even more beautiful, thanks to the amazing Yates Avenue community spirit. Well done to everyone for an enormous effort.
Change to Term 4 Calendar There has been limited time this term to rehearse for our end-of-year concert, with Peer Support, Fun Day, High School Orientation day, Presentation Assembly and Swimming Scheme all impacting on time when classes would be practising their concert item. As a result, there will be no end-of-year concert this year. My apologies for the calendar change. MiniLit and MacqLit Reading Programs
Congratulations to all the students who have participated in the MiniLit and MacqLit reading programs this year. The children have shown enormous growth in their reading skills and confidence when reading and comprehending texts. A big thank you to Mrs Dyball, Mrs Williamson and Miss Salvagio who have worked tirelessly on these programs. Last week, Mrs Dyball celebrated with a party for her MiniLit group - a great reward for their hard work! Have a great week David MacSporran Principal

FROM THE PRINCIPAL CONT….. Class Planning - 2018 We are currently reviewing student numbers and finalising class formations for 2018. An important part of this process is calculating the number of students in each grade. Thank you to those parents who have informed us that their children are leaving our school this year. If you know of anyone who has moved into our catchment area and is looking to enrol their child into our school for next year, please suggest that they do so ASAP to help with the planning process. If you have any concerns or things that you think need to be considered for your child’s placement for next year, please email me at [email protected] Presentation Assembly & Parent Volunteer Morning Tea – Wednesday, 6th December Invitations are being sent home this week to those parents whose child will be receiving an award at the presentation assembly. We ask that you keep it a secret so the occasion is a surprise for them. We will be hosting a parent thank you morning tea afterwards at the picnic tables near the COLA, for those parents who have volunteered their support to Yates this year. Support Unit Update - Staffing The process for appointing staff in our support unit for 2018 is underway. We will be interviewing applicants for the two Student Learning Support Officers this Friday and shortlisting applicants next week for the positions of classroom teacher and Assistant Principal, Special Education. I will let you know the outcome once the process is complete. Follow us on Twitter - @yatesavenuePS
Please join us on Twitter to keep updated on school events and student achievements. Our Twitter feed is yet another way for parents to stay connected with everything that is happening at our great school.

XOXOXOX
CAROLINE SHIPWAY MEMORIAL Yesterday, I had the absolute pleasure of meeting with Caroline’s lovely family. They were very touched by everyone’s donations and loved our memorial for Caroline. We took some time to talk about her and I heard a story or two, it was wonderful to learn more about Caroline and her life outside of Yates. We now have a place to go and remember our friend, share a story or have a rest. Once our apple trees bear fruit they will give back to our community, much like Caroline. Miss Rose School Administrative Officer
PRESCHOOL It’s hard to believe the children have almost finished Preschool. We have enjoyed many exciting learning experiences throughout the year, using the children’s play and interests to guide planning decisions, working with our families and community to strengthen our program and embedding the National Quality Standards and Early Years Learning Framework in all that we do.
We have also enjoyed spending time with our Kindy Buddies and Big Buddies, developing friendships and planning creative activities to support our learning. We wish all our year 6 buddies well for high school and look forward to seeing our year 5 buddies at BIG school next year!

P&C NEWS The Sushi Specials Day was another big success with 87 orders taking over $500 in sales. Many thanks to Jae Park, Soya Yoon, Mi Hwa Oh, Gyun Jung Lim, Ju Hee Kim, Yunhee Kwan, Fiona Ro, Jenny Chun, Clare Joo, Naomi Hyun, Azita Shahidi and Eli Askari for their massive effort. Our final Specials Day of the year is on Thursday 7 December and will be just for special treats. We will have ice-cream spiders and jelly available to purchase for $2.00 each. There is no need to pre-order, just send your child to school with some money on the day if they would like to purchase something. The new mirror for the carpark has been installed to the gratitude of everyone who is forced to navigate the difficult hairpin corner. Many thanks to Josephine Taylor who organised the donation of this mirror from her employer, FDC Construction & Fitout. The new boys’ summer shirts, embroidered with the school logo, have now been ordered and should be ready for collection in the final week of term. Please note that to avoid ordering unnecessary stock, these shirts are NOT available to purchase in the Uniform Shop. The next opportunity to purchase these shirts will be another bulk, pre-order in Term 1 next year. Due to the changing circumstances of several of our current volunteers, we will require fresh faces in the Uniform Shop and Canteen in 2018. If you have spare time on Monday or Friday mornings then please step up to help keep these important services functioning. The Canteen and Uniform Shop continue to make steady sales and, as a result, at the meeting on 1st November the P&C were able to donate another $2,000 towards the school’s purchase of technology. Our focus on fundraising next year will be to assist with the purchase of some new water bubblers under the 3-6 COLA. The final P&C meeting for the year was held on Monday 27th November with 14 members present – our largest meeting for the year. Thank you to everyone who made the effort to attend. The next P&C meeting will be on Monday 26th February 2018. It would be great to see more new faces in the new year so please come along if you’d like to make a positive contribution to your child’s school. Ben Howell P&C President
