World day of the SickThe World Day of the Sick is a day to pray for those who are sick, and for those who are sick to offer their suffering for the needs of the Church and the world. This day was instituted by St. John Paul II in 1992, and it is commemorated each year on February 11, the memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes. On this feast day, we remember the many pilgrims and visitors to Lourdes who have been healed through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is also interesting to note that in 2013, Pope Benedict XVI announced his resignation on this day, and he gave his declining health as his reason for retiring.As we remember Jesus’ special love for those who were sick, and His words, “I was ill and you visited me,” let us resolve to pray for and visit those who are sick and remind them as well that their illness is not without meaning, but rather an offering they may make for their own salvation and for that of the whole world.

oración por los que están enfermos, y para que los enfermos, ofrezcan su sufrimiento por
las necesidades de la Iglesia y el mundo. Este día, fue instituído por San Juan
Pablo II en 1992, y se conmemora cada año el 11 de febrero, en el día de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes. En éste día, recordamos a tantos peregrinantes y visitantes al Santuario de Lourdes que han sido sanados por la intercesión de la Santísima Virgen María.Es importante notar también que
en el 2013, el Papa Benedicto XVI anunció su retiro, cuyo motivo fuera
su declinante estado de salud.Recordando el amor especial de Jesús a
los enfermos, y en Sus palabras: “Estuve enfermo y me visitaste,” que podamos
proponernos rezar por ellos y visitarlos, como así también recordarlos que su dolencia no es vano, sino una ofrenda que hacen por su propia salvación y por la del mundo entero.

The Holy FamilyThe month of February is dedicated to the Holy Family. This devotion, started in the 17th century, asks us to look at the Holy Family, Joseph, Mary and Jesus as a model of virtue for our own family.
St. John Paul II said, “The family, more than any other human reality, is the place in which the person is loved for himself and learns to live the sincere gift of self.” This is a great time to reflect on our own families. Do we use the Holy Family as a model? As humans, we will fail at times, but our family is the perfect place to admit our failings, to ask forgiveness and to reach out to our Heavenly Father in prayer to help us live a more holy life. Make it a goal this month to pray together as a family and use the Holy Family as a guide.
