WISH TO BE A GOOD

TEACHER

• As teachers we find giving a Lecture continues to be difficult task even after many years of experience in the Profession, Topic may be familiar but you find all the Time new students and different temperaments it is like putting old wine in a New bottle. Many join the teaching profession but few reach the goal. However continuous passion to improve makes us better teachers .

• Dr.T.V.Rao MD

LECTURING IS OLD JOB DONE TO THE NEWER NEEDS

PLAN YOUR DELIVERY • We can't teach an entire of your expertise in a single

talk. If you try to cram in everything you know, you won’t have time to include key details, and your talk will disappear into abstract language that may make sense if your listeners are familiar with the subject matter but will be completely opaque if they’re new to it.

• So limit the scope of your talk to that which can be explained, and brought to life with examples, in the available time.

Page 4: Wish to be a good teacher

• Trying to over explain or painstakingly draw out the implications of a talk. And there the remedy is different: Remember that the people in the audience are intelligent. Let them figure some things out for themselves. Let them draw their own conclusions.

• The Teacher starts out by presenting a problem and then describes the search for a solution. There’s an “aha” moment, and the audience’s perspective shifts in a meaningful way.

REMEMBER OUR STUDENTS ARE INTELLIGENT

• There’s no way you can give a good lecturing unless you have something worth talking about. Conceptualizing and framing what you want to say is the most vital part of preparation

FRAME YOUR LECTURE

Page 6: Wish to be a good teacher

DR.T.V.RAO MD 6

• Framing is lecture makes the basis of your talk it’s time to focus on your delivery. There are three main ways to deliver a lecture. You can read it directly off a script . You can develop a set of bullet points that map out what you’re going to say in each section rather than scripting the whole thing word for word. Or you can memorize your talk, which entails rehearsing it to the point where you internalize every word—verbatim.

• Don’t read it, . It’s usually just too distancing—people will know you’re reading. And as soon as they sense it, the way they receive your talk will shift.

DO NOT READ YOUR LECTUREYOU LOOSE YOUR IMPORTANCE

Page 7: Wish to be a good teacher

• Pay attention to your tone. Some speakers may want to come across as authoritative or wise or powerful or passionate, but it’s usually much better to just sound conversational. Don’t force it. Don’t orate. Just be yourself.

DO NOT THE AUTHORITATIVE BE CAUSAL

Page 8: Wish to be a good teacher

DR.T.V.RAO MD 8

• If you start using jargon or get too technical, you’ll lose them. The most engaging speakers do a superb job of very quickly introducing the topic, explaining why they care so deeply about it, and convincing the audience members that they should, too.

DO NOT BE TOO TECHNICAL YOU WILL FAIL

Page 9: Wish to be a good teacher

• Successful lecture is a journey, make sure you don’t start to annoy your students along the way. Some speakers

project too much ego. They sound condescending or full of themselves, and the audience shuts down.

Don’t let that happen.

A SUCCESSFUL LECTURE CAN BE ACHIEVED GOAL TRY TO ATTAIN YOUR OBJECTIVES

BE FREE AND STABLE The biggest mistake we see in early practice is that people move their bodies too much. They sway from side to side, or shift their weight from one leg to the other. People do this naturally when they’re nervous, but it’s distracting and makes the Teacher seem weak. Simply getting a person to keep his or her lower body motionless can dramatically improve stage presence. There are some people who are able to walk around a stage during a presentation, and that’s good if it comes naturally. But the vast majority are better off standing still and relying on hand gestures for emphasis.

• With so much technology at our disposal, it may feel almost mandatory to use, at a minimum, presentation slides. By now most people have heard the advice about PowerPoint: Keep it simple; don’t use a slide deck as a substitute for notes and don’t repeat out loud words that are on the slide.

MAKE MULTIMEDIA YOUR SERVANT BUT NOT THE MASTER

Page 12: Wish to be a good teacher

• Another approach creative types might consider is to build silence into their talks, and just let the work speak for itself.

• Make the matters possible

MAKE YOUR WORK SPEAK

Page 13: Wish to be a good teacher

• Used well, video can be very effective, but there are common mistakes that should be avoided. A clip needs to be short—if it’s more than 60 seconds, you risk losing people. Don’t use videos

TRY TO AVOID VIDEOS FOR LONG YOU LOOSE CONTACT WITH PUPIL

• The single most important thing to remember is that there is no one good way to do a lecture. The most memorable lecture offer something fresh, something no one has seen before.

ARE THERE ANY PERFECT LECTURES???

MATTERS THAT RUIN OUR LECTURE

Page 16: Wish to be a good teacher

DR.T.V.RAO MD 16

• Take a really long time to explain what your talk is about.

• Speak slowly and dramatically. Why talk when you can orate?

• Make sure you subtly let everyone know how important you are.

MATTERS THAT SPOIL YOUR LECTURE

Page 17: Wish to be a good teacher

DR.T.V.RAO MD 17

• Refer to your book repeatedly. Even better, quote yourself from it.

• Cram your slides with numerous text bullet points and multiple fonts.

• Use lots of unexplained technical jargon to make yourself sound smart.

DO NOT REFER TO BOOKS WHILE YOU TALK

Page 18: Wish to be a good teacher

DR.T.V.RAO MD 18

Don’t bother rehearsing to check how long your talk is running.

Sound as if you’re reciting your talk from memory.

DO NOT ACT AS A VERY LEARNED MAN BETTER TO BE HUMBLE

Page 19: Wish to be a good teacher

DR.T.V.RAO MD 19

• Never, ever make eye contact with anyone in the audience.

DO NOT CONCENTRATE ON SELECTED STUDENTS

Page 20: Wish to be a good teacher

DR.T.V.RAO MD 20

• .Research shows us that lectures actually work against the human brain. After four to eight minutes of listening to a talk the brightest brains in the room seek other adventures … It’s not necessarily you that bores listeners, but more the fact that brains were not made to be talked at.
