William Wallace was…

• Although the later part of life is well known and documented, it is his childhood which has historians fighting. As his father is unknown with two likely candidates. Plus his surname of Wallace , which can translate to Welshman, has lead to even more confusion.

What did he do?

This is what Braveheart did

• Braveheart fought in the Scottish Wars for Independence from England which would eventually be the reason of his death.

• He would serve as a main leader in his time for the Scottish Wars.

• One of his biggest wins was the Battle of Stirling Bridge.

This is what Braveheart did…

• Wallace’s first act of supposed treason would have to be his attack in the town of Lanark where he had the English sheriff there killed in may of 1297. Wallace’s action quickly led to more unrest, which would have the outcome of the Scottish Rebellion.

• To quickly explain the initial unrest in Scotland, the people were unhappy as King Edward of England took Scotland during a confusion in succession. They felt as though the title wasn’t Edward's to take.

Here is an artist’s interpretation of the Battle.

A quick explanation of the Scottish Wars and the Battle of Stirling Bride.

The Scottish Wars for Independence

-The Scottish wars were a series of conflicts which took place during the 13th and 14th centuries. There were two different wars- though both ending with the same result as from before the war. They are known to be important and defining moment’s of Scotland’s history because of the emergence of new tech like the Longbow.

Battle of Stirling Bridge

- It happened during the first Scottish war for independence and it was Wallace and a man named Andrew de Moray who fought against the British and won. The importance of this battle is that it taught the British the harsh lesson of how the infantry can serve as a good Calvary.

Guardian of Scotland. In late 1297 or early 1298, William Wallace was crowned Guardian of Scotland in the name of the deposed king of

Scotland, John Balliol.

The death of William Wallace

It was not long after when Wallace was captured by the English who accused him of treason. Although Wallace

claimed he had never sworn allegiance to the English King, he

was sentenced to be Hung, Drawn, and quartered. King Edward had his limbs spread

around Scotland to show what happened to those who

committed treason.
