GRADING and RANKING

1 Weighted and Unweighted Points

Each honors class grade carries a weight of .5 points. Each AP class grade carries a w e i g h t o f 1 p o i n t . Weighted points are not calculated until !nal grades are stored. William Blount High School utilizes the state of Tennessee Uniform Grading Policy, which represents the grading system currently in use by all LEAs serving students in grades 9-12.

Grade Point Average and (GPA) Calculation

GPA  is computed using the a b o ve q u a l i t y p o i n t s . Beginning with grade nine, all subjects, whether passed or failed, are included in the computation. A minimum of 28 credits is  required for graduation. Grades are recorded on the transcript and a cumulative GPA is computed each January and May.

Rank

Class rank is determined by the weighted, cumulative grade p o i n t a v e r a g e a n d i s recalculated each semester. Final senior ranking is based on the !rst 7 semesters of course work, and is not released until spring semester of the student’s senior year (usually in Jan/Feb). Valedictorian and Salutatorian are named at this time. Students do not know their class rank until the o#cial results are released.
