Deer Management Workshop
The Oakland Mills Community Association (OMCA) will be hosting a Deer Management Workshop on Thursday, August 7th from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Other Barn, 5851 Robert Oliver Place, Columbia, MD. Speakers will
include: Phil Norman, Deer Project Manager, Howard County Recreation and Parks; a representative from the Howard County Health Department to talk about Lyme Disease; and Kent Phillips, Howard County Master Gardeners, to talk about “Deterring Deer” and the four points of Pest Management. All will be available following the presentation to answer questions, along with Chick Rhodehamel, Columbia Association, Environmental Manager. This event is being co-sponsored by all ten villages, Howard County Recreation and Parks and the Columbia Association. Howard County Housing will begin accepting applications for the July enrollment period for the County’s oderate Inco e Housin Unit (MIHU) program on Tuesday, July 1. The open enrollment period will end Thursday, July 31. As part of the MIHU program, Housing will hold a free “ IHU Buyers and Renters orkshop” on July 15 at 6:00 p.m. at the Gateway Building, 6751 Columbia Gateway Drive in Columbia. WELLNESS PROGRAM
The Columbia Association, in partnership with Wegmans of Columbia and Howard County Recreation and Parks, will introduce the Passport to Family Wellness program for our area, an initiative that encourages people to get out and be active on the pathway network. The Passport is a pocket sized booklet that has 16 routes throughout the County - eight managed by CA, and eight managed by Howard County Recreation and Parks. Participants can record their progress by making rubbings in their passport of a trail marker located at designated points on each route. Passports are available at HCRP (7120 Oakland Mills Road, Columbia) and Columbia Association (10221 Wincopin Cir #100, Columbia) headquarters and Wegmans Columbia (8855 McGaw Road, Columbia). The program will begin July 1, 2014 with information going out from CA and the County.

Jim Rouse at Leisure
James Rouse was well-known for his role as the founder of Columbia. But a new exhibit at Colu ia Archives, “Ji Rouse at eisure,” shows a different side of him. The exhibit opens on July 1 and will run through September in the American City Building at 10227 Wincopin Circle. A reception on July 17 at 7 p.m. will be an opportunity to visit after hours and enjoy a program highlighted by a Rouse family member recalling vacations and get-togethers.
