School Visit by the Honourable Ms Rita Saffioti MLA
On Friday 3rd August, Ms Saffioti MLA visited our school to see how our school had used the money from our community grant. Ms Saffioti was extremely impressed how the money had been used to purchase items in keeping with the community’s priorities. Once again, I would like to thank the members of our P&C who took the time to meet with Ms Saffioti and their help in the overall process.
Whilst she was here, Ms Saffioti also took the opportunity to plant a tree in out Six Seasons Garden as a part of National Tree Day. The tree was selected with the view of one day possibly providing children with some bush tucker.
A tribute to a Banksia Grove Star!
It was a privilege to formally recognise one of Banksia Grove’s true heroes, Mr Bill McClelland. For those who are new to our school community, Bill was the instigator and champion of Spring in the Grove (SIG), an annual fete aimed at bringing the community together.
In this case, our Child and Parent Centre was able to use a kind donation from SIG to purchase a bench and some wood art to help lift the profile of the centre. The decision was made to name the bench, ‘Bill’s Bench’, in honour of Bill’s tireless work over the years. Congratulations Bill!

Dear Parents and Community Members
Community Forum: Parents are invited to attend our Community Conversation
Café which is an interactive forum to find out about the new Banksia Grove
East Primary School (planning name) which will open in 2019. If you live in the
in-take area for the new school we are keen to partner with you in planning
how the new school will be established and operate. I therefore encourage you
to attend this special event on Tuesday 28 August. For more information and to
register please go to BGEPS.eventbrite.com.au
Please note that the Community Conversation Café has limited room so early
registration is essential. The event is for parents and invited community members only, please do not bring
children along to the event.
Assembly: Last week I visited the Banksia Grove Primary School assembly and spoke to the students about
the new school opening in 2019. As part of my talk I invited the students to have their say about a possible
name for the new school. They will present their ideas at their school assembly this week.
School Office: For those who don’t know we have a temporary office at Joseph Banks Secondary College. My contact details are [email protected] and the school mobile number is 0436 626 571. Please email or phone before visiting the office as it is not staffed 100% of the time. Enrolments: It is very important for planning purposes that we know if your child will be attending our school
next year. All enrolment applications can be made via Tapping Primary School – phone 9404 6033,
87 St Stephens Crescent, Tapping. If you know of a family that has recently moved into the area please let
them know the enrolment details.
We Are On Facebook: The school has a Facebook page where important updates will be posted. Please ‘like’
our page in order to be kept informed about all the latest news and information.

We will be running our Book Week in Week 7 (beginning Monday afternoon 27th - 31st
August). Every book purchased will go into the raffle to win one of three $20.00 vouchers to

gets a commission on all books sold, all money goes back directly into the school. We have
purchased books from past book fairs for Science and Pre Primary equipment. Please come

SCIENCE WEEK 2018
Science Week is happening
around the country right now!
Unfortunately I am sick so our
Science Week activities will
happen as soon as I return.
It is International Year of the
Reef so students in our school
will be focussing on The Great Barrier Reef.
There are plenty of activities to
do to celebrate Science Week
around Perth. The festival sounds
like fun!
STEM PROJECT
After our recent trip to the zoo our STEM (Science, Technology,
Engineering and Maths) Committee decided to use this
experience and develop a whole school project.
Each class in Years 1 to 6 were asked to plan and make an animal enclosure to be used for a whole school display.
We used refrigerator boxes for this!
We have all the continents covered and this will be presented as a walk through zoo in the library during Book
Week (Week 7).
The exhibition will run for at least all of Book Week. You can view it before and after school.
So when you support Mrs Murace by visiting the Book Fair then you can also come and see our
ZOOPERB EXHIBITION
Everyone is welcome!
Faction Carnival Schedule
Congratulations to all the students that represented our school at the Interschool Cross Country held at Hocking Primary School on 26th August.
All of the students showed that they are Banksia Grove STARS with exemplary displays of sportsmanship and determination. With eight schools participating in the competition it is a very difficult task to come away with a medal.
Congratulations to Caleb Milloy (3rd) and Will Sinclair (2nd) for their outstanding performances.
