Avoid bringing children, if possible, so that we are able to have your undivided attention.
Dress as if you are going to an interview. Employers often recruit in the Centers.

Job seekers can use the Resource Center to search for jobs, post resumes and research online information for career planning and employment opportunities.
Don’t know how to use a computer?We offer Basic Computer classes to assist with your job search.

Our free workshops will allow you to learn how to: Write a more effective resume Use networking to find your next job Dress for the job you want And much more
A different topic may be scheduled each day; just select the one that interests you, register/sign up and plan to attend. Register in advance by calling your local SC Works Center.

EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS WORKSHOPS
COMPUTER SOFTWARE AVAILABLE
In the Resource Room, you have free access to software that can help you increase your basic reading/math skills, WorkKeys skills, job search skills, etc. Ask for assistance to access:
Career Ready 101 (Keytrain, career exploration, positive work behaviors, and greater capacity to develop resumes, conduct job searches, and succeed in interviews).
Aztec Learning System (Skills Upgrading, GED
preparation) SCOIS (Career Information, Assessments) Mavis Beacon (typing speed & accuracy) Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
WORKKEYS
WorkKeys is a job skills’ assessment system measuring “real world” skills that employers believe are critical to job success. These skills are valuable for any occupation, skilled or professional, and at any level of education. When you use WorkKeys to show you are ready for work, you have an advantage with employers who accept or require job applicants to have WorkKeys in order to ensure that all their workers have needed skills. Many Pee Dee Employers require that you be WorkKeys tested. Testing is provided in the SC Works Florence Center and by limited scheduling in the other centers. For more information and to schedule to take WorkKeys, contact the WorkKeys Administrator for SC Works Pee Dee at (843) 519-1254.

WORKFORCE INVESTMENT ACT (WIA)
WIA provides opportunities to eligible individuals who do not find suitable employment after using the services available to them in the Resource Center. WIA does not pay you to go to school, but it does offer scholarships to various training programs that lead to higher paying jobs in the following Career Clusters for our area –
Advanced Manufacturing/Technology, Health Care, Customer Service, Transportation, Construction and Administrative/Information Technology Support.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH
WIA (Ages 16-21) For eligible youth, WIA programs are available to improve the
educational, job preparation, and leadership skills necessary to lead to a successful career as an adult. For information contact:

JOB CORPS (Ages 16-24) Job Corps is a no-cost education and vocational training program that helps eligible young people ages 16 through 24 improve the quality of their lives through vocational and academic training. Need a fresh start? Join Job Corps and live away from home and receive hands-on career training and education.
EMPLOYMENT SERVICES
SCDEW in partnership with SC Works provides all jobseekers with career counseling, job referrals, testing and training services, and resume-writing assistance.
Free tools to assist employers include training opportunities, posting job openings, recruiting and screening candidates and reviewing job market trends.

VETERAN SERVICES
Veterans (and their spouses) can receive assistance through job referrals, training, and career management.
We also offer a wide range of services to veterans with barriers to employment. We collaborate with organizations to enhance job placement opportunities, including businesses, VA medical centers community based organizations and reserve guard units. Call 843.669.4271 to speak with a Veterans Representative.
NATIONAL GUARD
The National Guard has a broad network of resources and services to find jobs, training and employment opportunities for Service Members and their Family.
The Employment Services program provides local resources and assistance to Service Members and their families who are seeking employment, a transition to a new career or further their education.
TRADE ADJUSTMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (TAA)
If you lost your job because of foreign competition, you may be eligible for the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program. These are additional services designed to help you return to work as quickly as possible. There are important deadlines associated with many TAA benefits and services.
When you are notified that you are potentially eligible for TAA benefits, it is important that you visit your closest SC Works Center and complete an application as soon as possible. Failure to meet your deadlines may result in losing your TAA benefits.
EMPLOYMENT FOR SENIORS
We have dedicated AARP and Experience Works volunteers who work with local companies that are seeking the skills and experience of workers age 55+.
AARP Foundation (843.665.1344) and Experience Works(803.774.2025) also assist low-income seniors, many with multiple barriers to employment, to get the training needed to find good jobs.
