WELCOME TO EVHS AP WORLD HISTORY! Instructor: Nancy Hester Course Website: https://web.georgetownisd.org/evhs/hestern Contact Information: [email protected] Course Description: The AP World History course provides a perspective and understanding of history as a foundati which students can analyze the complexities of today’s global interdependency. The course will be broken down on units of study based on historical periodization. AP World History will use the approach of analyzing global events and interactions from the foundations of history to present. The primary goal of the course is to provide a student-centered learning environment and engage the student in a comprehensive curriculum. Periodizations 1-4 will be studied in the First Semester and Periodizati will be studied in the Second Semester. The culminating objective is for students to demonstrate a complete picture of world history, and it is expected that students who want to take the AP e prepared for that challenge. Periodization 1: Technological and Environmental Transformations (to 600 BCE) Unit 1:Early Humans & River Valley Civilizations Periodization 2: Organization and Reorganization of Human Societies (600 BCE-600 CE) Unit 2:India and China Unit 3:Greece & Rome Periodization 3: Regional and Transregional Interactions (600-1450) Unit 4:Islam & Africa Unit 5:Byzantine Empire & the Middle Ages Unit 6:Americas, China, & the Mongols Periodization 4: Global Interactions (1450-1750) Unit 7:The Renaissance & Protestant Reformation Unit 8:Exploration & Scientific Revolution

Notes to Parents:

1. While participation by computer is not required, it is strongly suggested that you make sure your studenthas access either at home or through the public library to a computer and printer.Often, students will berequired to type and submit “one-pager’s” and other longer papers.I also accept these via email and makemy printer available to students before and after school and before class to print out their assignments.

2. All assignments, notes, and test reviews will be posted on the course website.Please make sure yourstudent keeps up with all reading assignments, as it is essential to making a good grade in this course as wellas receiving college credit.
