If you wish to speak during the designated timeperiod at a board meeting, please raise your handand wait to be recognized by the board president. Once the board president recognizes you, pleasestand and clearly state your name, address, andaffiliation if you are representing a specific group.This information must be in the board clerk’s legalminutes of the meeting. It is also helpful if youidentify which agenda item or educational issueyou are addressing.

The Jericho School District has developed com-munication protocols to promote direct, open andrespectful interactions so that problems and con-cerns can be worked out quickly and efficiently.The communication protocol starts with the staffmember closest to the situation, as that person willusually have the most information. At times, addi-tional personnel are required to resolve specificsituations. Appropriate communication channelsfor a variety of topics are outlined on page 10 inthe district calendar. If your issue has not beenresolved after following ALL of the appropriatesteps in the communication protocol, then pleasecontact the Board of Education.

Personnel MattersPersonnel MattersPublic discussion on matters relating to staffand students, at which their reputation, privacy orrights to due process, or those of others could insome way be violated, is prohibited. Please share personnel compliments or concernswith the board in writing. You may deliver yourstatement to our district clerk. He will relay yourwritten comments to the board for their review.You may also email your statement to members ofthe school board at [email protected].

Board MeetingsBoard MeetingsMonthly school board meetings are usually sched-uled on Thursday evenings at 7:15 PM. Meetingdates are indicated on the district calendar andopen to the public. Notification of all board meet-ing dates are posted at the entrance to each schoolbuilding and on our school district website,www.jerichoschools.org. Residents are invited to attend board meetings,which often feature presentations regarding edu-cational programs and activities, facilities,finances and staffing. The agenda is posted on thedistrict website on the Tuesday before a boardmeeting and copies are also available at the meeting.A quorum of board members (three of the fivemembers) must be present for a regular meeting totake place. All actions authorized or required bylaw are taken in open meetings. New York statelaw allows the board to discuss personnel, realestate, negotiations and legal matters in executivesession and then vote on them in open session.
