Welcome back

Everyone is very excited to welcome you back to school in September.

We know that for many of you it has been a long time since you were last at school. Some of you have been in school a little but it has been very different to what you were used to.

This booklet will explain the changes we have made to school to ensure we keep everyone safe. We hope that this helps you to feel happy and excited about returning to school in September.

We can’t wait to see you!

Class bubbles One way that we are helping to keep everyone safe in school is by limiting the amount of people we interact with. This means that your class will now form a 'bubble'.

You will stay with your class for the whole of the school day. You will be able to learn and play with children from your own class. The adults in your class will stay the same too.

These are some of the ways school will have changed to ensure you can stay with your bubble:

1. You will come straight into the classroom in the morning. You will have a set time to arrive that will be different to other year groups.

2. You will have a pack with all the equipment you need inside it. You won't have to share and you won't need to bring anything in from home.

3. You will have playtime with your year group. The playground will be split in half and your class will stay on their side.

4. You will eat your lunch in your classroom rather than in the diner.

5. Your teacher will take you to the grass outside the front of the school to be picked up. You will have a set time to be collected that will be different to other year groups.

The school dayThe school day will be a little different. This timetable will show you the changes. If you have a brother or sister in another year group, you will be picked up and dropped off at the same time. You will be dropped off at the earliest time and picked up at the latest time so you don't miss out on your learning.

Play time and lunch time

Play time and lunch time will be a little different than usual. You will play in your class 'bubble‘ and your class will have their own equipment to use.

Here is what you can expect:

1. You will play with children in your own class.

2. Your class will have your own playground equipment to share.

3. You will have the same amount of time outside as you did before.

4. You will eat your lunch in the classroom. Don’t worry if you order school dinners – these can be ordered in the usual way. Also, they will be made into ‘grab bags’ which will be brought to your classroom.

Changes to the classroom All classrooms will look slightly different.

Here are some photos of what your classroom will look like in September!

You may notice that there is a lot less furniture and all the desks are facing the front. This is to help keep everyone safe!

Hand washingOne of the best ways to keep ourselves safe is to wash our hands regularly for at least 20 seconds.

Washing our hands regularly can get rid of any germs that are on them and help to prevent us from getting poorly.

When you return to school you will wash your hands with soap and water or hand sanitiser gel. We will have plenty of soap and hand sanitiser for everyone so you don't need to bring your own.

These are the times you will need to wash your hands or use hand sanitiser:

1. When you arrive at school.

2. Before you go out to break.

3. When you come in from break.

4. Before you eat your lunch.

5. When you have finished your lunch.

6. After you have been to the toilet.

7. After you cough or sneeze.

8. Before you go home.

This handy poster will remind you how to wash your hands properly with soap.It is really important to wash your hands well every time!

Using different bins

In the classroom we will have lots of different bins to use!

It can be confusing so don't worry if you get muddled! These photos may help you!

General waste bin. This is for any rubbish that can’t be recycled.

Paper recycling.

Plastic bottle recycling.

A bin for tissues. This is so we can follow the “Catch-it, bin-it, kill-it” approach.

What if we lockdown again? Why would we lockdown?

In March 2020, the school closed because the government decided the country needed to 'lockdown'. This was to help keep people safe from Coronavirus by limiting the number of people who were interacting outside their home.

If the cases of coronavirus start to rise again, the government might decide that we need to close the school to keep people safe.

It is most likely that, if this were to happen, it would be for much less time than before.

How might it make us feel?

If we had to lockdown again it is likely we would have very similar feelings to before.

Some things we may feel include:

1. Worry – you may be worried about the virus and how it can make you poorly.

2. Frustration – you may be frustrated that we have had to change our routines again.

3. Confusion – you may be confused about what is happening and why.

4. Sadness – you may feel sad about what is happening and miss your friends at school.

Whatever we feel is okay but it is helpful to talk about our feelings so that we can stay happy.

How will we help your learning?

Your learning is really important to us. If we had to close the school again for whatever reason, we will be ready to post lessons online like we have done this term. You will be able to email your teachers questions and send them photos of your learning.
