Alternate Learning Opportunities This week we will be working on:

● Division: Apply strategies to divide whole numbers ● Multiplication: Investigate the link between multiplication strategies and the division of whole numbers, such

as “double-double” and “half-half” Origo at Home:

Click here to take a virtual trip with our district through the Origo at Home option and  hear some tips for navigating the site...or simply follow the steps below and explore:

Click to access Origo at Home Week 4

Click United States at the bottom of the screen.

Select Grade 3 at the bottom of the screen.

Click the turquoise, Week 4 button.

You can build fluency with multiplication and division by engaging in thinking and computational games through First In Math and/or a few of the other selected resources below.

Fluency with First in Math:

➔ Don’t forget: You must access First in Math through Clever or ClassLink .

● Just the Facts (Division) ● Skill Set 3 (All Operations) ● Factor Wheels (Finding Common Factors) ● Grand Slam (Multiplication and Division)

○ Click the link to see how to access this week’s games in First in Math: Summer Week 1 Directions

Extension Opportunities

Fluency Sprints:

● Sprint A ● Sprint B

*You get 60 seconds to complete as many as possible. Use the same sprint several times during the week to see your growth!

Fluency Games and Challenges:

❖ Flashing Lights ➢ Help Nora figure out how many times the lights flash altogether in one minute.

Summer Learning: Unplugged

Sidewalk Chalk Talk: Grab some sidewalk chalk and enjoy the following activities!

Weslandia was created in a backyard and is full of food and games. What would you want to create in your very own backyard civilization? Create a drawing with your sidewalk chalk of your imagined new world.

Head outside and draw this Open Middle Problem , taking turns to solve. The winner is the one who comes up with the most solutions!

Scavenger Hunts: Do you have what it takes to track down your reading and math target?

Let’s hunt vowel sounds through your house, yard, or anywhere you’d like to safely explore.

Pick either short or long vowel sounds and challenge someone to see who can record more on their list. Find items that have your chosen vowel sound. For example: mat has the short /a/ sound, rake has long /a/.

Team Long or Team Short? Who will win??

Select a number 1 - 10. Now make a list of all the multiples of that number by multiplying it 1 - 20. For example, if I chose 8 my list would begin: 8, 16, 24...152, 160.

Now apply your scavenger skills! Use books, clocks, addresses… anything you can safely investigate to find all 20 of your multiples from the list above! You can always try again with a new number.

Science:

For science summer enrichment, we are using an online educational game from Legends of Learning called Awakening to assist students in their understanding of science concepts. Legends of Learning is a research-based educational gaming company whose games are proven to have a positive impact on student performance.

Here is a short video that shows an older student playing. Video Students will need to use their school email to log in.
