PREFACE

The number of special need children in Indonesia has been increasing while the assistance and attention for them is still very mínimum. For this reason, Elsafan Foundation was established to become a foundation that meets the needs of the society, government, families and children with special need. Elsafan has the commitment to support the government to abolish literacy and to educate people in Indonesia, especially the blind children.

HISTORY

Elsafan Foundation was established on February 7th, 2006. The visión was started by Ritson Manyonyo, S. Th (who became blind in 1999). He invited another 6 blind people and 1 volunteer. They are: Toni Simon, SE., Robert Hutabarat, Gabriela Kumalayani, Fajar Kurniawan, Cicilia Herawati, Elfrina Simanjuntak, SS., and Januar. The meeting was conducted at Toni Simon’s home. These people prayed together and they united to form a foundation named ELSAFAN MINISTRY, which was then only a community of blind people.

However, as time goes by, the ministry becomes stronger and wider – the number of children who are taken care of is increasing. Therefore, on May 23rd 2007, the founders decided to register this community to a Notary office. Then, in October 2007, the name was changed from ELSAFAN MINISTRY to ELSAFAN FOUNDATION. On October 30th 2008 ELSAFAN FOUNDATION got its operational license from the Social Department Republic of Indonesia.
