Fairtrade Plate Challenge Exhibition

Several local schools took part in the Fairtrade Plate Challenge which was launched at a Fairtrade Event for Schools in July 2014. The challenge involved giving children paper plates to decorate with the Fairtrade logo using materials of their choice or alternatively creating a picture that represents an aspect of Fairtrade. Kingsmead Shopping Centre in Farnborough is hosting an exhibition of hundreds of decorated paper plates on the windows and doors of the empty ‘Home Choice’ shop. The artwork will be on display during all of December.

Apart from raising awareness amongst children about Fairtrade, the challenge also meant that participating schools would have qualified for FairAware, the first stage towards being awarded Fairtrade School Status. Your school can take part in a plate art competition at any time and submit evidence to the Fairtrade Foundation to get your FairAware award. Rushmoor Council is prepared to supply up to 200 paper plates for your pupils to decorate but this offer will close at the end of March 2015.

There are three stages to the award, FairAware, FairActive and FairAchiever. Each of these three stages will help your school learn about Fairtrade and get actively involved in the promotion and awareness of it. For more information about the exhibition, or Fairtrade School Status, please contact Les Murrell at Rushmoor Council on 01252 398538 or email [email protected].

Independent Support Program – Help With the New Education, Health and Care Plan

The Children and Families Act 2014 is changing the statutory process for children and young people aged 0 to 25 with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Disability. The Independent Support Programme has been commissioned to provide additional support to help families at this time of change. An Independent Supporter will give impartial advice and guidance to families with children or young people who are being assessed for an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or those ‘transferring’ from a statement of SEN to an EHCP under the new system. Independent Supporters will work closely with Parent Carer forums, SEN and Health partners to achieve a more streamlined assessment and planning process for families.

In Hampshire, Independent Support is available from Parent Voice and the Parent Partnership Service. If you have received a letter about transferring your child or young person’s statement or learning difficulties assessment, or

12

Page 13: €¦ · Web viewHawley Lane Shooting and Archery Club The Club will be holding a “have a go” archery session on Friday 16th January starting at 7.00pm at St. John Ambulance Youth

confirming that an EHC assessment will be done, you can contact them to discuss the support you might need through the process.

You can contact Parent Voice on 0300 300 8604 or by email [email protected]. You can contact Parent Partnership on 01962 845870 or by email [email protected]. They will support you by telephone, group workshops or face to face meetings or a combination of all three. They will also help you to understand other areas of the reforms such as The Local Offer and Personal Budgets. The aim of the Independent Supporter is to provide information and support that enables you to make decisions that are right for your child or young person. They will not tell you what to do or do it for you.

Blood Donors Needed at Christmas

This Christmas more than 200,000 blood donors are needed to help hundreds of thousands of patients. Last year 1 in 5 blood donor appointments were missed over the festive period putting NHS Blood and Transplant’s critical operation under unnecessary pressure. NHS Blood and Transplant is calling for more people to make time this Christmas to give a gift only they can give and make a blood - or platelet - donation. Around 210,000 whole blood donations will be needed over the coming six weeks to supply hospitals across England and North Wales treating patients with cancer and anaemias, after accidents or childbirth complications, and during surgery. Over the festive period 12,500 platelet donations are also needed to help treat patients with cancer or serious blood disorders and those who have undergone transplants.

This year NHS Blood and Transplant faces extra pressure as Christmas Day and Boxing Day fall ahead of a weekend, raising concerns fewer donors than usual will get around to making life saving donations during the busy festive period. To book an appointment to donate please visit www.blood.co.uk or call 0300 123 2323 to find your nearest session. It is also easy to book through mobile apps for Windows, Android and Apple devices. To download the app search 'NHSGiveBlood' in the app store.

The Shots are Undefeated at Wembley Stadium

A specially selected Shots Under 16’s girls team represented the Aldershot Town Football Club and Community Trust at Wembley on Sunday 23rd November and, to their credit, they remained undefeated all day. Battling it out against Premier and League opposition and some atrocious weather, prior to the Ladies International between England and Germany, the Shots girls flew the Aldershot flag in style. Competing in a league of four, the girls narrowly missed out on the knock out stages due to goal difference but did defeat their Premier opponents West Bromwich Albion by 5 goals to nil. In the Shots second fixture they secured a 3-3 draw against Leeds United and in their last group fixture, which ultimately led to their expulsion from the tournament, they drew 3-3 with Leyton Orient .

The tournament is just a small part of the Community Trust’s work with girls and ladies, much of which comes under the umbrella of the Football Association and Football League Trust’s Female Football Development (FFD) programme. Bicycle Security Tips and Property Marking

Always secure your bike to a stand if available. Otherwise lock it to a lamppost or railing. Secure your bike using a good quality cycle lock. Take with you smaller parts and accessories that can be removed without tools, for example lights, pumps, panniers and quick release saddles, or fit security fasteners on items such as wheels, headsets and seat posts. Marking your bike with your postcode and house number can be a deterrent to thieves and assists the police with identifying recovered property. Keep a note of your bike’s frame number as this will aid identification should the cycle be recovered by the police. Store a photo of your bike in a safe place as this will help the police to recover your property if it is stolen.

You can register your bike and other property at www.immobilise.com. For more detailed information about property marking visit www.securedbydesign.com. For recommended locks and security devices the www.soldsecure.com website has lists of makes and models.
