Summer Japanese Language Program Embassy of Japan in Bosnia and Herzegovina is pleased to announce that the Summer
Japanese Language Program will be held at the Veterinary Faculty of University of Sarajevo
in September 2017. The Program offers the opportunity to learn Japanese language and
culture with the aim to contribute to the building of friendship between the peoples of BiH
and Japan. The Program is organized within the framework of a collaborative agreement
between University of Sarajevo, BiH and Sophia University ( 上 智 大 学 ), Tokyo,
Japan, and supported by the Japan Embassy in BiH.
The Program is practice-oriented and provides participants with the opportunity to
experience Japanese culture. It offers six courses of different levels from very beginners to
more advanced. Each course consists of 8 classes over the period of three weeks. Three
graduate students specialized in Japanese language pedagogy from Tokyo will teach these
courses. Please see details of each course below.
Course Description
Beginners A
(Including
learning Kana)
(Imashiro
sensei)
This class is designed for students who have never learnt Japanese before.
Students will learn basic phrases in Japanese, daily conversation and also the
Japanese writing system: Kana (Japanese letters: such as あいうアイウ ). If
you are interested in Japanese writing system and want to write your name in
Japanese, you are recommended to join this class.
Students will learn not only the Japanese language but also Japanese culture.
Some Japanese cultural experiences (for example: Origami (Japanese paper
folding), Japanese sweets) will be offered.
Beginners B
(NOT including
learning Kana)
(Miyamoto
sensei)
This class is designed for students who have never learnt Japanese before and
don’t need to learn the Japanese writing system. Practicing Japanese letters is
sometimes difficult for non-Japanese learners and takes a lot of time because
of its uniqueness. If you are more interested in speaking Japanese than writing,
you are recommended to join this class.
This class focuses mainly on speaking and listening Japanese. Students will
learn Japanese greetings, self-introduction and easy conversational phrases. In
this class, students will learn Japanese culture as well as the Japanese
language. Some Japanese cultural experiences (for example: Origami
(Japanese paper folding), Japanese sweets) will be offered.
Japanese 1
(Orihara
sensei)
This class is designed for students whose Japanese level is between beginner
and intermediate. The aim of this class is to brush up speaking and listening
skills. Student will learn Japanese phrases used in ordinary situations through
conversational practices.
This course is aimed at students in the Level 1 of regular Japanese Course or
who have learnt Japanese for more than a half-year and know basic grammar
of Japanese. The knowledge of the Japanese writing system (Hiragana and
Katakana) is required.
Japanese 2
(Orihara
sensei)
This class is designed for students who have already learnt Japanese basic
grammar. The aim of this class is to brush up speaking and listening skills.
Student will learn conversational Japanese in various situations. Each student
will have a mini-speech / presentation in the class to be able to talk about
specific topics.
This course is aimed at students in the Level 2 of regular Japanese Course or
who have learnt Japanese for more than one year and know basic grammar of
Japanese. The knowledge of the Japanese writing system (Hiragana, Katakana
and some basic Kanji) is required.
Japanese 3
(Miyamoto
sensei)
This class is designed for people who have already learnt basic knowledge of
Japanese. The aim of this class is to enhance students’ conversational skills in
many practical situations. In this class, students will have a lot of opportunities
to speak about various topics (especially Japanese and Bosnian cultures). Also,
some opportunities to improve students’ Japanese listening comprehension skill
will be provided.
This class is designed for students who are in the Level 3 of regular Japanese
Course or whose level is intermediate.
Japanese 4
(Imashiro
This class is designed for students who have learnt Japanese for more than
three years: the Level 4 of regular Japanese Course. Students are required to
sensei) be able to listen and comprehend everyday conversations spoken at near-
natural speed and to read text about specific topics in Japanese.
The aim of this class is to improve students’ Japanese skills, especially
speaking and listening. In this class, students will have opportunities to speak
about topics which they are interested in and discuss various themes.

Applications must be submitted no later than 6 th August . You will receive a confirmation mail
at a later date.
Course fee
University of Sarajevo provides rooms & equipment and Sophia University provides
instructors. We ask participants to pay a course fee of 10 KM or 5 Euro per participant to
cover the cost of teaching materials and miscellaneous expenses. Please pay to the
instructor in cash on the first day of class.

on…) and trying various local foods at my travel destinations. And I also want to
eat a lot of delicious food in Sarajevo. I would like to introduce Japanese culture
