Newsletter Editor – Debbie FentonWebmaster – Kathy ButlerRefer to the membership list for contact information.FROM THE PRESIDENT: Many of you look at August as the dog days of summer. I look at August as a new beginning! I have always wanted to be a teacher. When I was a little girl, that is what I would play with my friends. We would set our little dolls up and pretend we were teachers. There were books to read to them and we would even have spelling tests! In just a few short weeks, I will meet my newest group of students and I am so excited to get to know them and start learning from them as well.Okay, where am I going with this? I am simply reminding you to do what you love! I simply love teaching. I love my 8th graders. If you are not doing what you love, it shows in you. It shows in your energy level and in your health. It will show in your quilting. Have you ever started a quilt and then decided that you just didn’t like it let alone love it? Oh, I

have, and I finally had to get rid of it. I cut one up into a completely different quilt! It was wonderful! Do what makes you happy! Please remember the President’s Challenge that is due next month. It is to make a quilt that make you happy. The only rules were that you had to have started it in January or later and it needs to be finished. Let me know about how many of you will be bringing one so I can be prepared!Love and stitches,Susan Perham Filled positions:Webmaster - Kathy ButlerPhilanthropy - Pat HubbardOpportunity Quilt - Pat HubbardHospitality - Margaret Seel & Julianne WoodMembership - Debbie MillerQuilt Challenge - Joanna McLucasBlock of the Month-

A Big THANK YOU to those who have volunteered. If you have already volunteered or plan to continue in this position, or have a new idea, please let Susan know.

VICE-PRESIDENT’S REPORT I hope that everyone enjoyed the Summer Social! The food was great, the fellowship was super fun! Thanks to Debbie Fenton for the festive pinwheel favors and congratulations to those who won plants or table runners! A great time was had by all! August's program will be Janice Pope. “Aurifilosophy - a thread lecture”, is her topic and she will bring "swag bags" of Aurifil thread for all those attending! If you are planning to bring a guest, or if you know of a non-member who wants to attend, please have them RSVP to me so there will be “swag bags” for all who attend. FOR SEPTEMBER’S MEETING WE NEED SOME QUILT STANDS! If you have

one we can use for displaying the challenge quilts, please let Ruth, Susan, or Joanna know. There are two challenge reveals, so get your challenge piece finished to show and share. Also, let the challenge leaders know the size your quilt. All quilts for the quilt show will need to be registered during the month of August. In October, Susan Edmonson will come and give us some wonderful ideas that will spark your creativity about embellishments and mixed-media. I visited her booth at the QSC Quilter’s Exhibit and was inspired again at her patterns and projects! Deb Karasik is coming in November. I am planning on the “Turn over a new Leaf” workshop. This will be a full 6-hour workshop (not a 3 hour one that we had scheduled before) on SATURDAY, November 9th. I need a full class for this to take place. This is a full day workshop, so workshop fee for Deb’s class will be $40, and there is a pattern fee at the class of $12.50. The pattern includes complete foundation pattern for entire quilt (printed on Deb’s foundation paper), illustrated instructions and a 6” Spiffy Hard-edge Tool - and is required for the class. I’ll have sign up at the meeting in August. Please

pay for the class when you sign up - you may pay for the pattern the day of the workshop. Then, she will bring our lecture on Monday, November 11th. December we will have our annual Christmas potluck social. In February 2020, Kathleen Rountree will give a lecture/trunk show, "From a Bear's Claw Quilt to Prize-Winners from Grandma's Attic”. February 8th, she will be teaching a workshop on "Easy Ways to Use Linens and Laces (First, take them out of the drawer)"

HOSPITALITYSpecial thanks to everyone who brought goodies to share at our Summer Social. Shout out to Ruth Bartholomew, Jean Andersen and Debbie Fenton for organizing the table decorations, ice cream and activities. Missy Coneybeer has had to step aside and Margaret Seel will be cochairing with Julie Wood. Please sign up with them to bring refreshments and to donate items for the door prizes.

Quilt Show Entry Rules

This is the 21st Annual Aunt Het Quilt Show presented by Nimble Thimbles Quilt Guild. Any rule or procedure used this year does not necessarily set a precedent for future shows.

ONE entry per category unless the entrant is a member of the Nimble Thimbles Quilt Guild, then they may register TWO entries per category.

The quilt show committee reserves the right to combine categories after registration forms are received; to correct placement of quilts to a different category based on the size and technique used; to deny an entry it deems inappropriate or not in compliance with the rules

Each entry must have a label securely attached to the back of the quilt or quilted project. Entries without labels will be disqualified.

Quilt entries must be delivered to the Fountain Inn Activity Center, 610 Fairview St, Fountain Inn, SC 29644, 10:00am-12:00 noon, on Thursday October 3, 2019. If unable to deliver your quilt to the show during this time, you must make prior arrangements with registrar for your entry to be accepted into the show.

All bed quilts and large wall hangings must be ready to hang with a 4-inch wide casing/sleeve sewn across the top on the back of the piece. If your quilt is longer than 90”, please attach the sleeve 90” from the bottom or your quilt will be pinned so it does not hang on the floor. Entries without sleeves will be disqualified.

While precautions will be taken to protect your entries, the Nimble Thimbles Quilt Guild, the Quilt Show Committee, or the Fountain Inn Activity Center cannot be held liable for any loss or damage to your quilt show entry. The Nimble Thimbles Quilt Guild is not purchasing insurance and it is your responsibility to personally insure your entry if you wish it to be covered during the time it is not in your possession.

Viewer’s Choice Awards will be selected on Saturday October 5, 2019. Winner’s ribbons will be displayed on the winning quilts on Sunday October 6, 2019. The Quilt Show Committee will determine the number of final classes and awards for each class after registrations are received.

Quilts will be available for pick up after the Quilt Show closes on Sunday, October 6, 2019. The Quilt Show Committee estimates this to be approximately 4:45 p.m. Your receipt will be your release to pick up your quilt.

If more than one person made your entry, the Quilt Show Committee requests that you acknowledge all of the Quilters in your description.

Quilts that have been judged in previous Nimble Thimbles Quilt Guild Shows shall not be eligible for awards in this year’s show.

By submitting your registration to the Quilt Show you acknowledge that you have read, understand, and will abide by these rules of the quilt show, and that not complying with any of the rules may prevent your entry from being exhibited in the 2019 Aunt Het Quilt Show.
