Dictation Dictation words this week are
broom crabbrush crowbrick cribbrain crash
Before you start recap the sounds from this week: br and cr (you can re watch Geraldine the Giraffe on YouTube for both sounds)
Or search on YouTube for “br songs” or “cr songs” Say the word out loud and give your child time to sound it out and write it
down Letter formation is not the focus during this activity Please encourage your child to write what they think – mistakes are
completely fine. Please allow your child to work independently – its tempting to help them
but independent spelling will show you where your child is Once they have finished all 8 words then you can go over it together and
look at spelling/letter formation
Challenge: ‘Hold the Sentence’ You say a sentence and your child tries to remember
the sentence and write it independently.
“I have a broom the sweep the floor.”“The baby is sleeping in the crib.”
Say the sentence and get your child to repeat – do this a few times before they start writing
Say it in different ways – whisper, robot voice, squeaky voice. This helps your child to remember the sentence
Give you child lots of thinking and writing time Repeat the sentence of needed Once they have finished look at the sentence together – check spelling
and letter formation Extra Checks – does the sentence have a capital letter, finger spaces and
a full stop?
