If your child has a Health Care Plan and you receive correspondence regarding updating our records, please ensure forms are returned to us before Friday 22 June 2018.HealthThere have been reported cases of Chicken Pox in our Primary School and Kindergarten. Symptoms include slight fever and “cold-like” symptoms, followed by a rash. The rash appears as blisters which crust to form scabs. Crops of blisters may appear over several days and various stages of blisters may be present. The rash is more noticeable on the trunk than on the limbs and may affect the scalp and the inside of the mouth, nose and throat. The rash is usually itchy. The incubation period is 2-3 weeks, usually 14-16 days, but may be longer. The infectious period is from 2 days before the rash appears until at least 5 days after the rash first appears and all blisters have crusted over. Aspirin should not be given to children or adolescents who have chickenpox. If your child shows any of these symptoms please keep them home until at least five days after the rash appears and all blisters have dried. Please consult your health professional if you have any concerns.

First the children scoured the kindergarten garden searching for rocks to be able to make paint.

The children then discovered that wetting the surface of a large rock, then firmly grinding smaller rocks revealed a variety of colours.

During the kindergarten morning an amazing array of colours were produced.

Together with the adults the children began to transfer their paints onto paper.

Until this amazing mural was made.

To fully appreciate the size, colour and work of the kindergarten children – our mural is on display in the front office of the school.

We had our first camp fire at bush kindy this week. The children helped to prepare the pit and to build the fire. After talking about how we behave around a fire we lit it and the children were wonderful and remembering. Our fire is a resting place, a place to share stories and a place to warm our hands. We did all of this for much of the morning.

To finish off our latest Main Lesson on Ancient Rome, the students of Class 6 have each completed a project of crafting an item from Ancient Rome. The students took on this challenge with great enthusiasm and creativity - crafting an immense variety of items from shields to wax tablets. I would like to congratulate each student on their effort and outcome. The projects are now on display in Class 6 and will be shared with the primary school at our next assembly.

The Indian Curry Night conducted on Saturday 26 May 2018 in the LAC was a huge success with over 120 people attending. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the Class 10 Surveying Camp and farewell Jayesh and our visiting Indian Students. We also welcomed Little Yarra Steiner School who were staying overnight for a visit. Many thanks to all the volunteers including Sophie and Lily for making it a wonderful community event.

The last two weeks we have been focusing on Nature. The children and I spoke about how we could reuse our food scraps, other than compost. After a little bit of research, it turns out that you can regrow some things, such as celery, tomatoes and lettuce, just from the scraps. We experimented with celery, and look at the progress within just one week! Do you have any soft toys/teddies or old kitchen items you no longer want or need at home?

Would you be happy to donate to OSHC? We are starting a home corner and will have a small wooden kitchen delivered in the coming weeks. We will be encouraging more imaginative play and we don’t quite have all the items we need. We would love some involvement from the other members of the school. We will be open for OSHC on Friday 8th June from 7am to 6:30pm if we get enough numbers book in. To register, visit www.campaustralia.com.au type in SA Mount Barker Waldorf School and you’re set to go! If you have any questions about the programme or want to come by and have a look, call Tara on the number below.
