1. General

WDB series microcomputer-monitored motor protector, a new generation intelligent integrated device for protection,

monitoring and control of LV asynchronous motor and increased-safety motor, is applicable in AC380V, AC660V LV system. In

addition to advanced motor protective and monitoring functions, this protector also provides major information such as records of operation and trip, and nominal parameters, and it is designed in a fieldbus structure, greatly facilitating the modern equipment

management. It has a vast application in industries such as petroleum, chemicals, electrical, metallurgy, coal, light industry, municipal

construction and textile.

Comply with the following standards: GB3836.3-200, GB14048.4-2003, IEC255

2. Characteristics

“tE time protection” complies with Chinese national standard (GB3836.3-2000) for protection of overload in

increased-safety explosion-proof motor;

AC sampling, measurement of current in A, B and C phases and voltage of control circuit

On-site display of operational conditions of motor, and storage of three records of motor tripping resulted from fault

One for protection output, one for self-defined relay output, and another for 4-20 mA current output or RS485

interface

HD wide-temperature crystal display to display promptly based on the operational conditions of motor and user’s

requirements, with background lighting

3. Main functions

Protection:

Protection over faults such as overcurrent, locked rotor, phase loss, unbalance of three-phase current, overvoltage, undervoltage,

short-circuit, leakage(optional)

Measurement:

Measurement of current of three phases and voltage of control circuit, and display

General function:

Applicable for protection of increased-safety motor, three-phase asynchronous motor and feeder line

Communications:

Communications with upstream system is realized via RS485 interface of the protector. The bus interface supinterfaces

parameters setting, control and monitoring, as well as Modbus communications protocol. Usually, an RS485 bus interface is for

physical connection. And generally, an upper computer or a PLC device serves as the master station, and this protection serves as

substation.

Current output:

4-20mA current output; and current value corresponding to 20mA settable.

WDB-Z10A-AC220V model refers to that it is of an integrated structure, the current protection ranges from 10A to 50A

and the working power voltage of the protector is AC220V

WDB-FT-100A-AC380V

WDB-FT-100A-AC380V model refers to that it is with communications function and of a separated structure, the current

protection ranges from 30A to 100A and the working power voltage of the protector is AC380V

7. Protection feature and set range

7.1 Start-up protection

- During start-up, the protection only covers phase loss, overvoltage, undervoltage, short-circuit and unbalance of three-phase

current.

Set range 0-255s

7.2 Protection over unbalance (phase loss) of three-phase current

—— Protection over unbalance of three-phase current: to determine whether the value surpasses the limit based on the ratio of

minimum phase current to maximum phase current, and accordingly to determine whether protection action should be taken.

When current between two phases is greater than the trip value and lasts for certain amount of time (trip time), and fails to return

to normal during the trip time, the protector executes trip command and at the same time displays the trip information about

unbalance of three-phase current on the operation panel.

—— Phase loss protection: when one or two phases of the three-phase current lose and lasts for a certain amount of time (trip

time), and fails to return to normal during the trip time, the protector executes trip command and at the same time displays the

trip information about phase loss on the operation panel.

7.3 Locked rotor protection

—— After the completion of start-up, determine whether the value surpasses the limit based on the ratio of maximum phase

current to rated current, and accordingly to determine whether protection action should be taken. When the current is greater

than the trip value and lasts for certain amount of time (trip time), and fails to return to normal during the trip time, the protector

executes trip command and at the same time displays the trip information about locked rotor on the operation panel.

7.4 Overcurrent protection

——The current of motor is calculated to prevent the motor from short service life or damage due to overcurrent. The current of

motor is directly displayed on the panel. The overcurrent protection action is inverse time limit protection, and the time to take

the action can be user-defined based on the demand. The overcurrent multiple and protector action time corresponding to

7.5 tE time protection (increased-safety motor)

——determine whether the value surpasses the limit based on the ratio of start-up current to rated current, and accordingly to

determine whether protection action should be taken. When the current is greater than the trip value and lasts for certain amount

of time (trip time), and fails to return to normal during the trip time, the protector executes trip command and at the same time

displays the trip information on the operation panel. The ratio of minimum motor te time to start-up current is IA/IN; and the

characteristics of protection action time is shown in Table 2.

7.6 Overvoltage protection (voltage of control circuit)

——determine whether the voltage surpasses the limit based on the ratio of measured voltage to rated working voltage, and

accordingly to determine whether protection action should be taken. When the voltage is greater than the trip value and lasts for

certain amount of time (trip time), and fails to return to normal during the trip time, the protector executes trip command and at the

same time displays the overvoltage-caused trip information on the operation panel.

7.7 Undervoltage protection (voltage of control circuit)

7.8 Protection over short circuit

——determine whether the current value surpasses the limit based on the ratio of maximum line current to rated current, and

lasts for a certain amount of time (trip time), and fails to return to normal during the trip time, the protector executes the trip

command, and at the same time, short-circuit-caused trip information is displayed on the operation panel.

Trip time ≤ 0.2s

7.9 Self-start function (please specify when placing order)

——For a protector with this function, the user needs to set self-start time, and by then the motor cannot be started via

communication start.

8. Keypad operation and display

8.1 Panel description

In , U represents function code, while the last three digits refer to the parameters of function of U code.

8.2 Functional keys description

Setting: select setting type

Move: under setting status, press down Move key to select the to-be-set item (this item blinks), and revise the parameter via the

Data key. In normal status, press down Move key to display the code of fault occurred before, and press Reset to exit.

Data: under setting status, press Data key once, one more item blinks; when the motor operates normally, press down Data key

to display the voltage value, and press Reset key once to return to current value display.

Reset: under setting status, press Reset to exit setting; press Reset to reset the protector after the protection action is taken, and

then the protector can function as usual once restarted; in normal operation, press Reset to pause the repeat displayof currents but to display certain present current only, and press one more to return to repeat display of currents.

8.3 Operation

——When the protector is powered on, the LCD presents STOP; when the motor is started, the LCD presents “-----“; the

protector enters into operation after start status, and on LCD, the first digit represents the code of current phase, while the last

three digits represent the current value. If the Data key is pressed, the LCD presents voltage value; if the Reset key is pressed,

the LCD presents the current of certain phase constantly, and subsequently, if the Reset key is pressed again, the LCD returns

to repeat display of current of three phases.

8.4 Setting of protection parameters

——During the start and operation of motor, the Setting key is invalid. When the motor is not started and the protector is

powered on, press Setting key to select the setting type, by now the setting indicator lamp is on, then press Move key to move

around, and Data key to revise the data; when the setting of certain parameter is completed, press again the Setting key to next

item until all parameters are set. After all parameters are set, press Reset key to exit setting, then the LCD displays STOP.

When the setting is completed, press again the Reset to exit setting and save the set value.

As for the 11th, 12th and 13th setting above, they are only available for a protector with 4-20mA output function.

8.4 Setting, operation and fault indication

—— When the protector detects fault in the motor, on the LCD, the first digit represents corresponding fault code and

continues to blink before a trip signal is sent out. After the protection action is taken, corresponding fault type, motor current and

voltage are displayed, and the fault indicator lamp turns on.

3. When the protector is equipped with a current transformer with function of transformation ratio, if an ammeter is required at

site or in the control room, it is better to provide a current transformer with function of transformation ratio, or the display of

phase current with ammeter may be affected.

13 Instructions for order

1. Please specify the model, specifications, quantity and voltage of working power supply of the protector in purchase of a

protector.

2. When ordering a separated protector, the user can make clear the distance between the upper part and lower part of the

protector based on the installation requirements, and the distance shall not be over 5.

3. The warranty period is one years. Within two years since the date the protector is received, you can return the protector to us

in case of any faults or damage during transportation, we would exchange without any additional charge (excluding

manmade damages).
