CRESTWOOD INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL PTO NEWS

This holiday season, our stu-dents and families are invited to remember our soldiers serv-ing in Afghanistan. The son of one of our own, our school sec-

retary, Mrs. Ank, is su-pervising over 250 sol-diers overseas. Major Greg Ank has noticed that some of his troops do not receive any mes-sages, cards, or pack-ages from home. To let our troops know we are

thinking of them, please send in any of the following items for donations: Batteries, hard candy, chap stick, gum, CD’s, pencil, paper, or pens, crackers, travel size toiletries, disposable cameras, dental floss, flashlights, maga-zines, Nerf toys, sun block,

cheap sunglasses, powdered drink mixes, snack bars, toothbrushes and toothpaste, zip lock bags, playing cards or writing cards, moist wipes, odor eaters, International phone cards, double bladed razors, travel games, beef jerky, foot powder, or cash donations used for shipping postage. Supplies will be collected until November 24. Please send items to room 304 and mark: For Soldiers. The items will be packaged into individual goody bags by our third graders for Major Ank to distribute as needed. Since it takes almost three weeks for mail to reach Afghanistan, we hope to bring some soldiers holiday cheer from Ohio!

If you are interested in buying your child’s teacher a gift for the holidays, consider Adopting a Snowman! Snowmen, with items the teacher needs for the classroom, will be hanging up outside each room during P a r e n t / T e a c h e r conferences. Take a snowman home, buy the requested item and send it back to school with your child. And don’t forget our Art, Music, Gym, Tech, and other “Special” teachers!

BOOK FAIR The Book Fair begins November 18th and goes through the 24th. Children will be visiting the Book Fair with their class, but

it will also be open both nights of Parent/Teacher Conferences so that parents may shop. Stop in and check-out the latest books your child just can not live without!

SANTA SHOPSANTA SHOPSANTA SHOPSANTA SHOP Santa Shop will be open December 14th through the 18th. Teachers have already signed-up for a time to take their classes. As in the past, everything is priced at $1 and there will be items for mom, dad, grandparents, siblings, and pets. Look for notices to come home the 2nd week of December specifying when your child will attend Santa Shop, so parents know when to send money. This is NOT a fundraiser—just a service offered by your PTO and a great way to give your child the opportunity to be in charge of their holiday shopping!

WOW! We have really been busy during the last few weeks. D.A.R.E. finished in fifth grade. We would like to say a special thanks to the PTO ladies for supplying the refreshments for the graduation. Also, a heartfelt thanks goes out to an area business (who wishes to remain anonymous) for their generous contribution to the purchase of the shirts. Support like that is always appreciated.

Families First will finish up on the 11

th of November. Townhall II

always does such a nice job with this parenting program. Please consider being a part of it next year.

COUNSELOR’S CONNECTION

Page Page Page Page 4444

We are looking forward to our Veterans’ Day celebrations. In conjunction with that day, our students will be making cards to send to the various military installations around the world. These cards will be mailed and distributed by the Soldiers’ Angels organization again this year. This is a great opportunity for our students to show support to our men and women in the military.

We will be doing the “Giving Tree” project again this year. At Parent/Teacher conferences there will be a tree in the front lobby. On the tree will be paper ornaments with gift requests for needy families in our community. Please consider

Sandwich Day

The fourth graders Celebrated

“The Earl of Sandwich’s” birthday on

November 3rd by having a “Sandwich

Day”. The boys and girls brought in

sandwich making supplies, and the

fourth grade teachers supplied the

bread. The students learned that The

Earl of Sandwich first created this

delicious invention so that he could

continue to play cards with one hand

while eating with the other hand.

Thank you to all the families who

donated the items which made this fun

event possible!
