Remove all leaves, debris, algae and moss to prevent moisture issues. Have your gutters and drains cleaned. Add downspout extensions where needed. Repair all damaged, disconnected or leaking gutters and downspouts. • Foundation wall: Take a look at the visible areas of the wall for any cracks. Be sure to seal them up before the winter. This will help prevent moisture ingress or mold growth. • Furnace/boiler: Now is the ideal time to have your furnace and or boiler maintained. Check the furnace filter and replace it if it is clogged. Get a clean bill of health from your heating contractor so you can stay warm in the winter. • Fireplaces: Have your gas fireplace(s) serviced and gas lines checked for leaks, especially if you rely on them for heat. A licensed gas fitter is the person to call for this. Wood burning fireplaces can be checked and cleaned out with the help of a chimney sweep. This is important to help prevent chimney fires. • Exterior caulking and vegetation: Trim all trees and vegetation away from the siding, roofline and especially the power lines. Consider calling an arborist, as this is can be dangerous work. Remove storage items away from the siding to prevent moisture issues or wood rot. Caulk and seal around windows, doors and balconies. • Plumbing: Drain all hoses. Locate and shut off exterior hose bib valves. Check the water pressure to ensure it is not too high. Insulate all pipes in unfinished areas such as crawlspaces and garages. Remove all debris from the drains. Get all sump and sewage ejector pumps properly serviced. • Decks and balconies: Remove debris and vegetation from the surface. Clear all drains to prevent pooling or clogging. Check the function of doors and screens. Test guardrails and stairs for stability. • Smoke/carbon monoxide detectors: If you have not done so over the past six months, test smoke detectors and replace them if they are 10 years or older. Install carbon monoxide detectors in close proximity to any gas-burning appliances and check them as well. • Pest proong: Rodents like to move inside during the winter, so check your attic, garage, crawlspace or any other areas for small voids. If you notice evidence of pest intrusion, call a professional to check and properly seal all areas where necessary. • Energy efciency: Check windows and doors for air leaks. Purchase Energy Star and Water Wise/Water Sense appliances, fixtures or faucets for those that need to be replaced. Government rebates are available for some items. You can check on your city website to see which items are listed and how to receive money back, and consider calling an energy advisor to determine your rating. Taking these measures will arm you with the information to save money. • Ventilation and insulation: Check, replace or repair all bathroom, kitchen and laundry vents. This is important to reduce the humidity in the home, especially in bathrooms and attics. If your bathroom fans are outdated, consider installing newer, moisture-sensing fans. Check or call a professional to inspect the attic for mold, loose ducts, missing ducts & insulation. • Crawlspace: Inspect or have the crawlspace inspected for signs of moisture pests, insulation problems, mold, rusted ducts and leaks. Repair all problems with the help of an attic contractor. These tips should give you more than enough to do in preparation for the winter. So take advantage of the mild weather, and make your home well protected and ready for the wet, cold season ahead. There’s a new condominium project

about to rise in one of the city’s

most established and eclectic

neighbourhoods of Vancouver. Welcome

to The Jervis, nestled in the second

oldest and most diverse enclave in the

city – the West End. With sweeping

views of the ocean, the North Shore

Mountains and the downtown cityscape,

The Jervis is surely going to captivate

savvy Vancouverites.

Located blocks from Sunset Beach,

The Jervis is a 19 storey raven black con-

crete building with weathered Corten

steel panels and graphite-coloured win-

dow frames and railings.

This is an intimate boutique collec-

tion of 58 spacious two bedroom homes,

ranging from 989 to 2,480 square feet.

What makes this building unique is

all the residences are corner units

anchored by a large outdoor covered

terrace. Another distinctive element at

The Jervis is that there are only four

contemporary, open-concept homes per

fl oor on the lower levels and two homes

per fl oor on levels 17 to 19.

“The homes at The Jervis are extreme-

ly well thought through, impeccably

designed, tasteful, and not ornate,”

says Scott Trepp, principal at Trepp

Designs Inc.

Architect Richard Henrey, principal

Richard Henry Architects agrees and

went on to say: “The Jervis; a living,

breathing work of art that is not just

beautiful and functional, but is perfectly

located in the exciting reemergence of

the West End.”

Inside these high ceiling homes are

kitchens that will delight the culinary

visionaries out there. Inspired by Niels

and Nancy Bendtsen’s Paris home, each

kitchen is showcased by integrate high-

end Italian cabinetry, top of the line

stainless steel appliance package, spe-

cialty exhaust systems, and the most

advanced cooking technology available.

The attention to detail can also be

found in the subtle touches in the bath-

rooms, from fl oor to ceiling hand-select-

ed marble tiles to recessed mirrors with

integrated halo lighting.

Surrounded by world-class parks and

beaches, bustling with shops and eater-

ies, minutes away from the downtown

core, Coal Harbour and more, The Jervis

is about buying into a lifestyle. There

are tree lined streets and lanes and gar-

den oasis cared for by volunteer “green

thumbs.” If you like walking, cycling or

jogging, it’s a Mecca. For architecture

lovers there’s a whole block of heritage

homes dubbed Mole Hill, and art lovers

will appreciate the public art installa-

tions that dot the West End.

This is the inaugural collaboration

of two renowned names in the indus-

try, Intracorp and Inform Interiors.

Combining Intracorp’s development

expertise with Inform Interiors award-

winning design, the result is uncompro-

mising design.

“We’ve been around for 52 years,

Intracorp’s been around for more than

30 years, so it made sense for two

established local companies to really

raise the bar for Vancouver real estate,”

says Nancy Bendtsen, co-founder Inform

Interiors.

The Jervis Sales centre, located at 1295 Davie Street, Vancouver, is open by private appointment. Starting from $1 Million, these residences must be seen to be appreciated. For more infor-mation, call 604-998-8989, email [email protected] or visit www.thejervis.com. Tentative occupancy is spring 2018.
