SAILING HiN'l'S

A{ter you have launched, try practicing the maneuvers shown .Try a beam reach. Cet used to watchingthe main club angle from a distance. You will find that rvith a little practice you can coordinate thesails and.rudder together rvithout thinking. Position the sail in a litte and try a close reach. Finatly sheetin all the way and sce how closely you can sail into the wind before the sail starts lufling. You wiltnote that the yacht is slowing down a bit as you head closer to the wind. Try coming about through theeye of the wind by holding the rudder hard over until the sails fill on the opposite tack. Try a broadreach by letting the sails out about halfway. You will note that this is probably the fastest point ofsailing. Finally turn the yacht so that the sail "wing on'wing",quickly give several hard ruddercommands in the direction that the main sailsets. This will cause the jib sail to jibe to the opposit sidefrom the main sail, then you can resume your coarse. When you are running wing on wing you willnote an increase in speed. Keep running through these maneuvers and you will soon have confidenceand skill in handling your model
