As a Ceramics graduate, you will be versedin ceramic making concepts and ideas, producing well-crafted designs that exhibittechnical proficiency and aesthetic maturity.you’ll demonstrate mastery in wheelthrowing, hand building, and/or exploration in mixed media.

take advantage of the Art Annex, a well-equipped 3,800 square foot building dedicated to ceramics. the Annex also includes an additional outdoor roofedkiln pad. Separate rooms are availablefor hand building, wheel throwing, clay mixing, glazing and firing with both electricand gas kilns. Individual studio space is available for those selecting Ceramics asa focus for their B.f.A. degree.

this hands-on practice will prepare youas a professional in the field for a careerin the studio, teaching, as well as pursuing and preparing for graduate studies.

Develop your creative talents andtechnical skills to become a professional graphic designer. Prepare for a career in a wide variety of agencies and firms, freelance and other creative venues.

you’ll master creative problem solving,conceptual and aesthetic judgment, and the use of computer technology asa design tool. you’ll receive instruction from highly experienced faculty working and learning in well-equipped, modernstudios and labs with the latest industry-standard hardware and software.

uCM’s B.S.e. degree in Art leads directly to a teaching certification for grades K-12. uCM is accredited bythe National Association of Schoolsof Art and Design. As an Art educationstudent, you will take courses in all areas of art making and then choose one area for advanced coursework.

foundation and art history courses prepare you for success in all the studio art areas, while you develop your teaching skills in education classes in the department and in the College of education. experiences in area public schools provide opportunities to apply what you’ve learned in your art and education classes. you’ll be prepared for the dynamic and rewarding career of teaching art.

Illustration majors master creative problem solving, conceptual and aesthetic judgment, and the use of traditional and digital techniques through instruction from highly experienced faculty and hands-onstudio practices. you’ll be encouraged to seamlessly integrate digital and traditional techniques into yourdaily art making.

Illustration emphasizes the importance of both traditional and digital art-making tools and how they can work for each individual student. you’ll be expected to demonstrate the highest level of

ability in foundation art courses in order to excel in Illustration. Personalstorytelling, visual narrative, characterdevelopment, design theory, target markets, portfolio building and the history of comics and illustration are extensively covered.

through the combination of entrepreneurial practices, relevant assignments, program content andexcellent instruction, the degree prepares you for a successful careeras a professional illustrator.

you’ll become well-versed in a variety of traditional processes, including screen printing, intaglio, lithography, letterpress and relief printing. further master principles of traditional print media through instruction in the use of advanced techniques, large format printing and multiple color printing.

you’ll have access to state-of-the-artdigital media, and benefit from instruction in techniques that promote an integration of traditional and digitalprocesses. Printmaking is a synthesis of tradition and innovation; a truly unique discipline incorporating many means of artistic expression.

the printmaking facilities provide ample work space in a comfortable atmosphere with lots of natural light.Students use professional, quality equipment including a takach lithography press, large bed CharlesBrand etching press and a large format vastex screen printing exposureunit. the technical skills and personal artistic growth promoted through the Printmaking program at uCM prepares you for a variety of careers and professional opportunities.

learn contemporary approaches and traditional methods of expression usingpaint in order to discover your artistic voice. you’ll be provided with continuousaccess to private studio spaces along with the use of classrooms.

Successful painting majors complete their required courses and finish witha final semester public exhibition in the uCM Art Center Gallery. Mentored by faculty who are recognized for excellence, you’re sure to have a solid foundation.

Continue your career by attending graduate school, pursuing a Master of fine Arts or other related graduate degree, becoming a practicing artist orworking in an art-related field. uCM’s sculpture lab is a well-equippedfacility with 3,000 square feet of space for students to create their work witha wide range of materials in our fully equipped wood, metal and multipurpose rooms. All areas in the sculpture lab have exceptional stationery equipment and hand tools for woodworking, metalworking, bronze casting andother applications.

you’ll be encouraged to build a strong foundation in sculpture enabling you to work safely and create outstanding work that reflects your own personal vision. With highly recognized and professionally active faculty as mentors, students are prepared to pursue graduate studies and exhibit work professionally.

Immerse yourself in hands-on design while learning to be a professional practitioner of interior design. engage in many differenttypes of design, from individual furniture pieces to whole interiors. faculty will help you learn the important technical information to better understand the built environment, from design considerations to construction, installation, function and legal compliance.

you’ll have opportunities to experience professional interior design through creative projects, interactions with clients and real-world design problems. you will be encouragedto immerse yourself in the interior design industry with opportunities for field trips, site visits, professional networking and internships.

Graduates are employed in large and small interior design and design-related businesses all across the Midwest and beyond. the program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and the Councilfor Interior Design Accreditation.
