Color Choices Choice and application of color shows an advanced knowledge of color relationships. Color choice enhances the idea being expressed.

Choice and application of color shows knowledge of color relationships. Colors are appropriate for the idea being expressed.

Choice and application of color shows knowledge of color relationships. Colors are, however, NOT appropriate for the idea being expressed.

Student needs to work on learning color relationships and using that knowledge in his/her work.

Planning and Explanation

Student can describe in detail at any point during the painting process how s/he envisions the final product and how they intend to reach their goal. Very focused and goal-oriented.

Student can somewhat describe how s/he envisions the final product and can describe some of the steps s/he will use to reach the goal. Focused with some planning.

Student can describe how s/he envisions the final product but finds it difficult to describe how s/he will reach that goal. Has set a goal, but let\'s things evolve in somewhat random manner.

Student has thought very little about the project. Is present but is not invested in the product.

Time/Effort Class time was used wisely. Much time and effort went into the planning and design of the mask. It is clear the student worked at home as well as at school.

Class time was used wisely. Student could have put in more time and effort at home.

Class time was not always used wisely, but student did do some additional work at home.

Class time was not used wisely and the student put in no additional effort.

Introduction to Color: Lesson PlanDay One

Pre Assessment: Quiz- matching colors with primary and secondary, and matching complimentary colors.Rationale What is the purpose of teaching this lesson? (You will

explain this to your students?

-You will be able to understand what colors is part of a color wheel and why they are in a specific spot. You will leave this class knowing what a color wheel looks like and what colors are a part of the color wheel, and where each color is located on the color wheel.(primary and secondary colors)

State Standards What state standards will be addressed in this lesson?

-Identify and describe the characteristics of a color wheel.

-create a color wheel model using different medias.

-Explain the definition of primary colors and what colors fit into that category.

-Explain the definition of secondary colors and what colors fit into that category.

Learning Objectives What knowledge or skills will students acquire in this lesson?

Students will… create a color wheel model with the understanding of primary and secondary definitions and the knowledge of where each color fits in the color wheel and why.

Materials What specific texts, resources and materials will you use in this lesson?

- A color wheel worksheet- Color pencil, markers, paint, crayons…

Hook/ Anticipatory Set

How will you set the stage for learning and excite students about learning your objectives?

I will introduce them to a large model of a color wheel and explain each color and its placement. I have a

Page 9: Unit Plan: Color

worksheet to hand out to them that has a blank color wheel on it. I will explain that we are going to fill in this worksheet together. Then begin to model on my own worksheet each section at a time.

Direct Instruction (I do)

How will to introduce the concepts or skills or learning objectives to students? Through modeling? Discovery learning?

-I am going to introduce them to the color wheel and for some it will be reviewing. I will model what each section of a color wheel is and model on my worksheet each step we will take as a class to complete the color wheel.

Guided Practice (We do) and Checks for Understanding

What strategies will you use to guide your students’ application of the concepts or skills? How will you know if they are getting it? What formative assessments will you use to keep track of student learning?

-This worksheet that I am modeling and working together as a group on will be a formative assessment. I want to make sure they have a full understanding of all of the colors and the color sections.

Closure How will cue or you let the students know that your lesson is coming to an end?-When they finish their worksheet that will be the end of the lesson. I will have them discuss in groups (TPS) about each of the sections and why each color is in the color wheel.

Independent Practice (You do) and Assessment

What opportunities (either in-class or for homework) will you gives students to practice or demonstrate their understandings of the learning objectives?-The color wheel worksheet.

Learning Objectives What knowledge or skills will students acquire in this lesson?

Students will… understand the difference between primary and secondary colors, and have the ability to mix colors.

Materials What specific texts, resources and materials will you use in this lesson?

- paint

Hook/ Anticipatory Set

How will you set the stage for learning and excite students about learning your objectives?

- I will show examples of primary colors and secondary colors and how artists used the primary colors to create secondary colors. (perhaps a video)

Direct Instruction (I do)

How will to introduce the concepts or skills or learning objectives to students? Through modeling? Discovery learning?

-I will start by reviewing the color wheel and the definitions of primary and secondary colors and begin

Page 11: Unit Plan: Color

with the examples of primary and secondary colors. The video will show them how artists mix colors to create new ones.

-I will then model how to mix the primary colors to crate secondary colors. I will have them do the first one with me and then the second one with a partner, and then complete the last one by themselves.

Guided Practice (We do) and Checks for Understanding

What strategies will you use to guide your students’ application of the concepts or skills? How will you know if they are getting it? What formative assessments will you use to keep track of student learning?

-I will have them watch my modeling while I am fast mapping the colors. Then when they get into their groups they will understand the process they have to complete to mix their colors. Then when they go on to complete the last color they would have seen me model it twice for them.

-The mixing exercise will be a formative assessment.

Closure How will cue or you let the students know that your lesson is coming to an end?

- When they finish the mixing exercise they will as a class show me what primary colors create which secondary colors on their own color wheel worksheet.

Independent Practice (You do) and Assessment

What opportunities (either in-class or for homework) will you gives students to practice or demonstrate their understandings of the learning objectives?-Mixing exercise.
