UK Magazine Publishers

Bauer Media• Founded- 1875• Bauer Media Group is a large European based

media company that manages a portfolio of magazines, digital products, radio and TV stations

• Bauer have magazines specialising in food, puzzles, TV listings, women's weeklies and more

• Bauer publishes Q magazine- Q is the UK’s number one actively purchased music magazine

• They also publish Kerrang! which is devoted to rock music

Egmont• Founded- 1878• EgmontUK publishes books and magazines for

children in the United Kingdom• A music magazine they publish is We Love Pop

which is for girls around the age of 7-13 years old• Egmont is the UK’s top specialist children’s

publisher with three award-winning divisions selling more than 12 million magazines each year

Immediate Media• Founded- 2011• It published magazines for BBC such as BBC Music

Magazine and Top of the Pops• BBC Music Magazine specifies in Classical music which

has an age group of 40+• Top of the Pops magazine has an age group of 7-13

years old and is a monthly publication. It features chart information, star gossip, fashion and beauty advice, quizzes, song lyrics and posters

My music magazine• My music magazine is influenced by Billboard and Q magazine and

do doesn’t have a specific genre. Therefore, if I was to publish my magazine, it would make sense to use Bauer Media because they publish Q magazine which is similar to my magazine. However, the fact that Bauer Media already has a music magazine with no specific genre which is similar to mine, makes me think that I should use a different publisher who has a gap in their market where my music magazine would fit nicely. Therefore, I think that Immediate Media would be a good publisher for my music magazine to be published through because they don’t have a music magazine which is non genre specific and so this would be offering the publisher’s audience something new and bringing in new customers. They have a classical music magazine which is for 40+ year olds and a pop magazine which is for 7-13 year olds’ therefore, they do not offer a music magazine which has an age range of around 16-26 and so my magazine could widen what Immediate Media offer and expand their amount of customers. Egmont would not be relevant to my magazine as it specialises specifically in children's magazines and my magazine doesn't fit in with this.
