A computer can be used to enhance images. Photo-editing softwares comes with a price but there are free alternatives which are very close to
the industry-standard softwares. GIMP is the free-Photoshop. Photo-editing can be fun and rewarding.
Essential Questions What is photoshop? Is there an alternative to photoshop? How do I download and install GIMP? What are the tools of GIMP? What are the techniques in photo-editing?
At the end of the quarter, the student will demonstrate understanding on concepts, key terms and rules in using GIMP, a free photo-editing software. Topics will be the following:
What is GIMP, Photoshop? What are the tools of GIMP Using the SuperNova effect. (Applying sun effect on images) Using the Fish Eye Effect of GIMP How to make transparent images using GIMP. How to enhance brightness of pictures GIMP. How to retouch images using the HEAL button. How to change colors of parts of an image. Hiding blemishes using the clone tool. Cartoonizing images.

Performance Task 1
After giving the steps and final instruction, ask students to download appropriate image for use in the Heal effect of GIMP.
Performance Task 2
After giving the steps and final instruction, ask students to download appropriate image for use in the Supernova effect of GIMP.
Performance Task 3
After giving the steps and final instruction, ask students to download appropriate image for use in the Fish Eye effect of GIMP.
Performance Task 4
After giving the steps and final instruction, ask students to download appropriate image for use in making transparent pictures in GIMP

Discuss also the difference of Photoshop and GIMP. To hook the students, demonstrate the use of the Healing Button. Let them try it on a downloaded picture as a graded activity.
