Type of Question in Verbal Ability:1. Completion of Series: In this type, a series is given in which a word, letter, a figure or digit is missing somewhere in between or at the end and the candidate is required to insert it. Example 1: Find the missing, 3,7,11,15,__,__ Ans: ( write it in the comment box)2. Relationship of Analogy Tests: This is a mathematical type of exercise. There is certain type of relationship between two objects or ideas and bye establishing the same kind of relationship between the third and the fourth, the missing object or idea is to be provided. Example 1: Q1 Bird is toflyas man is to _______ Ans: (write it in the comment box) Example 2: Q2 Watch is to wrist as ring is to ______ Ans: (write it in the comment box)3. Relationship Test: There is a certain relationship between the pairs of words. Example 1: Write the number of the two word which have the relationship as tailor and clothes. (1) Cobbler (2) Doctor (3) Medicine (4) ShoesAns: (write it in the comment box)4. Jumbled Spelling Test: In this type of test, jumbled spelling of common words are given. The candidate is required to think out the correct work. Sometimes a hint about the nature of the word is also provided. Example 1: Which choice mentions the last letter of the word rearranged from the following jumbled spelling: Q: COYEKH is an outdoor game. Options: Q,X,Y,H.5. Coding and Decoding Test: In these tests, number, letters of alphabet do not stand for themselves but for some other letters, i.e., they have an artificial code value. These artificial or code values are given according to some set principle. By applying that principle the candidates can decode a coded word or number. Example 1: If HKTG means Fire, what does YCVGT mean ? Example 2: If 3=0, 4=4, 5=10, 6=18 then 7=?6. Multiple Choice or Best Reason Test: In this case a question or an incompletestatementis followed by many possible alternative choices as answers and candidates are required to select the more appropriate choice that completes the statement or answers the question. Example 1:Delhi is famous because (a) It is very neat city (b) It is the capital of India (c) The President and PM live in it.7. Same Class Test: In this type of test, a group of words is given. Some of these words belong to one particular class but one ore more words do not belong to that class. Example 1:Write the number of object which is different from the other objects in the following collection: (a) Teacher, (b) Professor, (c) Student, (d) Head Master, (e) Principal.8. Synonym Test: In this type, pairs of words with the same meaning are given. But a certain pair of such that the meaning of the two words in the pair is not the same. Candidates are required to pick it out and write the number of that pair. Example 1:Write the number of the pair, the words which do not have the same type of meaning as the others. (a) Agony and Pain, (b) Danger and Risk, (c) Freedom and Bondage, (4) Integrity and Honesty.9. Antonym Test: In this type some pairs of words have opposite meaning but a certain pair of a different nature. Candidates are required to pick out the same. Example 1: Write the number if the pair, the words of which have a relationship different from the other pairs. (a) Compulsory, Voluntary, (b) Help, Obstruction, (c) Excess, Surplus, (4) Food, Famine.10. Direction Sense Test: In this type of test, the candidates are required to make use of a keen sense of direction and remember the distance covered in each direction. Example 1: If you start from point A and walk 4 miles towards the east, then turn left and walk 3 miles towards the north, turn left again and walk 2 miles, which choice mentions the direction in which you are going? (a) North, (b) East, (c) South, (d) West.11. Common Sense Test: In these type of tests, the candidates are required to make use of their common sense only. Alternative choices for suitable or probable answer may or may not be provided in this type of test. Candidates have to draw upon their own past experience. Example 1: 3 years ago, Lakshmi was 5 years older than Sita. What is the difference between their ages today?12. Sequence Test: In this type, one is required to concentrate on correct sequence of days of the week, months of the year, sequence of words in the dictionary or sequence of letters of alphabets, etc, etc. Example 1: If fifth of the month falls two days after Monday, what day of the week will precede the 19th of the month.13. Blood Relationship Tests: One is required to have fair knowledge of blood relations. Example 1: X and Y are children of Z. Z is the father of X but Y is not the son of Z. What is Y to Z?14. Jumbled Sentences Tests: In this type the words forming a sentences are jumbled up and candidates are required to rearrange these to form a sensible sentence. Example 1: Rearrange the following jumbled words to form sensible sentences. (a) All animals are animals but all cats are not cats.15. Confusing Instructions Tests: Questions of this type are simple to solve but instruction issued are confusing. The students are required to study the questions carefully and understand in which way the answer is to be expressed. Example 1: If 1/2 when added to 1/4 makes 3/4. Write "wrong" unless 3/4 when divide by 1/4 makes 1/3 in which case write 'right'16. Assigning Correct Mathematical Signs: Sometimes arithmetical questions involving addition, subtraction, division and multiplication arewrittenbut arithmetical sign areomitted. Candidates are required to insert these. Example 1: 24_5_4=9 .17. Word Building Tests: This type of test is meant to test the ability of students in word building. For example: forming new words by suffixing or prefixing new letters or taking off from or adding new letters to the body of words. Example 1: Think of a single letter which when prefixed to the following words forms new words: READ, RISK, OWL, RING, RIGHT.18. Supplying the missing figures: Example 1: Rupees - Paisa **6 - *2 - x 7 _____________________________________ 6*57 - *4

Bottom Line:After checking out these questions, you may think that verbal ability test in SSB interview is very easy, Yes its very easy indeed, all you need to do is timemanagement. 5 Days SSB Schedule :

Reporting Day:The day of reporting at the SSB board, followed by document check and form filling[PIQ forms]. You are suppose to report at theplacementioned in the call letter, mostly you are asked to report at MCQ [Moment Control Office]. You will not find any difficult in doing so because there are many other candidates who reports on the same day, so you may find one or two.

[ For some entries reporting day and Screening day are same, please follow your call letters for correct information ]

Note: For some entries reporting day and screening[PPDT] are same, when yourreportingtime is early like 0700 hours then your screening day will be on the very first day(reporting day)Stage-1 Testing

1.Screening: Screening process is to pick up some potential candidates from all those who have reported for the particular entry. It consist of few activities like:

a.Verbal and Non-verbal Test:Nothing hard, to be true, doesn't need any preparation too. But it is always good to go well prepared, you can check someverbal and non-verbal sample questions here. After this test you will get some rest, and later proceed for PPDT.

b. PPDT: We have already talked so much aboutPPDTin later posts, this consist of story writing and discussion. You will be shown a picture for 30 secs, later you have to write a story based on the picture you have seen in 3 mins, after that, you will be divided into sub groups of 14-15 members, firstly each candidates willnarratehis/her story which is followed by the group discussion on the picture, among thegroupmembers. You can find more detailshere. Keep in mind thatPPDTis the most important part which helps you to clear screening and takes you to stage-2 testing.

c.Results of Screening: After the compeltion of PPDT, you will get some rest for 2-3 hours and lunch too. Your screening results will be declared after it, selected candidates areallottedwith new chest numbers. Rest of the candidates gets their TA and dropped backed to the railway station or bus stand.

Stage-2 Testing

Congrats to all who clears first stage of testing, now your real battle starts, loosing the stage-2 battle is very painful for most of us, but a good preparation can fulfill your dream to join Indian defence forces.

2.Psychological Test:It is a battery of projective tests, all tests are used to check the psychological suitability of the candidate to be an officer. Candidates are required to write their responses based on the particular test. Here the time limit is verycrucial, so you are required to write your first response in time.

Battery of Test:

1. Thematic Apperception Test [TAT]2. Word Association Test [WAT]3. Situation Reaction Test [SRT]4. Self Description Test [ SD]

What to do ??

TAT: You will be shown 11 pictures in which last picture is will be a blank slide, each picture will come just for 30 seconds and then disappear, after that you will get 4 minutes time to write the story based on that picture. After 4 mins another picture will come for 30 seconds and same process will be followed till last slide {blank slide }. WAT: You will be shown 60 words back to back, each word will remains on the screen for 15secs , in 15secs you are required to write a sentence which comes in your mind first after reading that word. Likewise you have to write 60 wordscontinuouslywithout any pause in between. SRT: You will get a booklet with 60 situations written on it, you are required to write your responses based on those 60 situations, timeallottedwill be 30 mins. SD: You are required to write opinion aboutyoufrom your parents, friends, teachers, yourself and thing you would like todevelopin future. Timeallottedwill be 15 mins.Its all about your speed of thinking and writing, do not maupaltes much because it may create problem for you in later stage. Write legible and correct.

3.GTO:This is also has a series of outdoor task, the main aim of this task is to judge your qualities during group performance, remember most of the task in this series are group task, you are required to support the group with best of your qualities and not to compete with them in any manner.

Series of Tests:

GD:Back to back group discussion on two topics, mostly current affairs.GPE:Group Planning Exercise, each candidate has to write his planning for the mentioned problem and map given, later group members are required to discuss on the problem and have to come with a common plan with common consensus. Later one of the group member has to explain the common planning with the help of pointer and map.PGT:Progressive Group Task, you are required to cross some obstacles with the help of supporting materials like rope, plank, wood log etc. Some rules are required to be followed during this task, it a full group activity.HGT:Half Group Task, mostly same as PGT but the number of group members will be half, you may get more chance to show your potential

IOT:Individual Obstacles Task, you are required to attempt 10 obstacles individually, each obstacle consist of some points from 1 to 10.Command Task:You will be a commander in this task, you are required to cross some obstacles with the help of 2-3 subordinates. You can choose 2-3 candidates from your own group whom you think can help you to clear the obstacles.

Snake race/Group Obstacle Race:All group members will be competing with other groups, members will be holding a snake like rope, they are required to cross certain obstacles with the snake. There are certain rules like all other tasks. It is kind of race among different groups, its a fun.Individual Lecturette: Each candidate will be giving lecture for 3 mins on a topic selected by him/her. You will get 4 topics out of which you have to select one topic.

FGT:Final Group Task, same like PGT, just like another chance to show your potential.

4.Personal Interview:It is a main key which decides your recommendation in the SSB Interview,SSB Interview questions and answersplays vital role in the assessment of the candidate. How to face the IO[ Interviewing officer] in the SSB PI[ SSB Personal Interview] is the major concern here, one wrong move can tarnish your image and reduce your chances to get recommend.

5.Conference:Each candidates will be facing all SSB board members, he will face few general questions like how was your stay or what did you learn from this, conference is just to decide whether or not to recommend you as an officer in Indian defence forces. All assessors collectively decide your suitability, for some candidates those who are in border line, may face certain questions, which can be decisive one. It hardly goes for 1-2 mins.
