Use the Trimble Access Installation Manager to install software and updates for all Trimble Accessapplications on your controller.

Installing and updating the software using the Trimble Access Installation Manager offline

Download a copy of the Trimble Access Installation Manager and all application files and licenses.

When you create an offline version of the Trimble Access Installation Manager:

You must list the serial numbers for the controllers to be updated offline so that all the licenses for thecontrollers are included in the offline installation. Only those controllers that have had their licensesdownloaded can be updated offline.

You can select the version of the Trimble Access software to be available for the offline installation. You can then use the Licenses only option to download additional licenses. You must use theLicenses only option to download additional licenses if you purchased new licenses for existingcontrollers, or if you include additional controllers in the offline installation.

For more information see: www.trimble.com/taim/

Licensing the software

Every Trimble Access application must be licensed in order for you to install and operate the software.

When you purchase an additional component for the Trimble Access software, or extend an existing license, the license file is updated on the Trimble hosted server. To download the new license file, do one of thefollowing:

Connect the controller to the office computer through Microsoft ActiveSync technology or theWindows Mobile Device Center and then run the Trimble Access Installation Manager. This updates the license and the software.

3

Page 6: Trimble Access 2012 Helpfile

With an Internet connection established, tap the Trimble button in the Trimble Access task bar, or thetask bar in the application that you are currently running and then select About from the drop downmenu. Then tap the License button to begin the download process. This updates only the license.

About

To access a list of all Trimble Access applications installed on the controller, their version numbers, licenseinformation, and EULA (End User License Agreement), tap the Trimble button in the Trimble Access taskbar, or the task bar in the application that you are currently running and then select About from the drop downmenu.

The About dialog shows two dates; the License expiry date and the Software warranty expiry date:

License expiry date

This refers to the date until which the software or service can be used. Perpetual licenses do not havea license expiry date. Timed licenses show the expiry date of the current license on the controller. However, as the timed licenses are automatically extended, the date shown is the date that thecurrently downloaded license expires. As long as you maintain your subscription, all you need to doto update a license is to run the Trimble Access Installation Manager software, or if the controller isconnected to the Internet, tap the License button in the About dialog.

Software warranty expiry date

The software warranty expiry date field shows the date the warranty expires, or On subscription thatrelates to timed license subscriptions, which do not expire if the subscription is maintained. If thesoftware warranty has expired, you can continue to operate the software and are entitled to minorupdates of the software. New improved versions of the software require a valid warranty. For information on Hardware Extended Warranties or Software Maintenance, [email protected].

Trimble Connected Community

Introduction to the Trimble Connected Community

The Trimble Connected Community is a web-based service that provides online data storage and other toolsto enable individual organizations to share information quickly and easily across the Internet.

The functionality available within the Trimble Connected Community can be separated into two maincategories:

Collaboration and communication services via tools such as filespaces, forums, wikis, blogs andvisual organizer. The collaboration and communication tools are provided via the standard gizmosthat are available to all Trimble Connected Community users. For more information, see the sectionon Content .

Services for survey workflow including tools for setting up and managing your survey projects andequipment. The Trimble Connected Community is required to access and use these services, but theyare not available to all community users - these services are only available to customers that havepurchased Trimble Access services. For more information on these services see the chapter onTrimble Access Services .

The Trimble Connected Community is managed and hosted by Trimble and you can easily access it using oneof the following Web Browsers:

Internet Explorer version 7.0 or later• Mozilla Firefox version 3.0 or later• Safari version 3.1.2 or later•

A company that trials or purchases access to the Trimble Connected Community receives a uniqueorganization, which allows them to log in, store data online, and share data with other users within theorganization. The number of users who can access information placed on sites and pages within theorganization depends on the number of licenses purchased.

To access the Trimble Connected Community, go to www.myconnectedsite.com . Log in using the memberID, organization, and password provided at the time of purchase.

For more information, see:

Sites

Within the Trimble Connected Community, organizations can create sites that contain the information thatthey want to share. An organization can contain one or more sites that are used to group similar data, forexample, information for a survey project.

The AccessSync service uses sites as the landing place for files. You can set up one site for each field projector use one site for multiple field projects.

For more information on how to set up sites for use with the AccessSync service, see Configuring a site to usewith AccessSync.

Pages

20

Page 23: Trimble Access 2012 Helpfile

A site can contain many pages to further categorize data. For example, a Trimble Access project site typicallycontains a page for files, a page for the site forum and a page for the Visual Organizer gizmo.

Content

The information contained on each site is referred to as "content", and is typically spread across a number ofpages on a site.

A single page can contain a number of different types of content or "gizmos". The type of gizmo allows youto put different types of content on your page; for example, reference or interactive text, images, and webpages.

The collaboration and communication services within the Trimble Connected Community are provided via thestandard set of gizmos.

Some examples of gizmos are described below.

Gizmo Description

Filespace Viewer

For information on content types and how to add content, refer to the help within your Trimble ConnectedCommunity organization.

Trimble Connected Community member types

Typically, there are three levels of member types available within an organization:

Site Manager / Administrator, who has complete control over the organization setup.• A User, who can do anything the Site Manager has empowered them to do.• A Guest, who by default has very limited access within an organization since they are not a memberof the All Users group. Guests can be empowered to do most things within an organization.

Tip - Trimble recommends that the Site Manager login is used only for administering your TrimbleConnected Community organization. For day-to-day work, create a user account.

Adding members to your organization

Each user of the Trimble Connected Community should be allocated a member ID which is a log-in to thecontent held by a particular organization. To create an account for a new user:

Log in to your Trimble Connected Community account.1. In the Navigator panel on the left of the page, click Administration then Manage Members.Note - Not all users will have permission to do this. The following users should be able to performthis task:

2.

the Site Manager♦ a member of the AllSiteManagers group or Administrator group♦ a user with roles of Add User, Edit User, or Remove User♦

Click Add User and enter the appropriate Member Info details. You must fill in:3. First Name♦ Last Name♦ Member ID (i.e. username)♦ Password♦ Country♦ Time Zone♦ Email address♦ Trimble recommends that At login direct member to this site: is set to Survey Tools♦

Click Admin Info and then set the license type. Typically, set this to Visualization. Depending on thelevel of access required, set the appropriate User Roles.

4.

22

Page 25: Trimble Access 2012 Helpfile

Click Save. The new user should be able to login using the Member ID, Organization Name andPassword entered in your setup.

5.

Permissions

A user within an organization can have access to different functionality within the Trimble ConnectedCommunity depending on the permissions defined for a particular item. Permissions can be defined forindividual sites, pages, filespaces, and for some gizmos such as forums and calendars.

The available levels of permissions are owner, editor, and viewer.

Notes

To use the AccessSync service, users must have both owner access on the filespace, and vieweraccess on the site and the page.

If you cannot see or use a particular feature it could be because you do not have permission to do so.Talk to your Site Manager about gaining permission.

Managing permissions using groups

Within an organization, user groups can be established under a group name. Access can be easily assigned to auser group where the members share common access rights.

When setting up your organization, it is good practice to grant common access rights (permissions) once for agroup of users rather than to each individual user. This method is much easier, more efficient, and less proneto error.

For example, to add a user and give them access to a particular piece of content, such as a filespace, youwould need to create their account as above, grant them access to the site, the page, and the filespaces. Thenrepeat this for each user in your organization that needs access. Now, consider whether most users in yourorganization need different levels of access, or whether they typically have the same access rights. It is mucheasier to create the user and then add them to a group that shares common access rights.

Creating a new group

To create a group where every user will have common access rights:

Log in to your Trimble Connected Community account.1. In the Navigator panel in the left hand side of the page, click Administration then Manage Groups2. Click Add Group3. Give the group a Name and Description so you can recognize it as a group with common accessrights. For example "Field Crew A"

4.

Click and add the required users to the group. Click Save .5.

Using Site Inspector to grant a user group access to a site and all its contents

23

Page 26: Trimble Access 2012 Helpfile

All content types contained on a site can be updated from one location using the Site Inspector :

Browse to the site which you want to change the site permissions for.1. Click Manage Sites then Site Inspector .2. Click on beside the site name.3. Click and click on the Groups tab. Add the new group to the list of users who have

permission to access the site.

4.

Set the level of access to Owner, Editor or Viewer and click Save .5. Select the content types that you wish to grant access to, then click Sync Selected To Site Permissions.

6.

Tip - This updates the content types so that the permissions are set exactly the same as the hosting site. Tovary permissions, click beside each content type.

Adding a new user to an existing group

You can easily give a new user access to the same content as an existing group, by adding the new member tothe group:

Create the member account (see Adding members to your organization )a. Click Administration then Manage Groups .b. Click beside the group you wish to update.c. Click and select all the users that need to be added to this group.d.

Click Save .e.

Note - If a user or guest is deleted from an organization, they are automatically removed from all relevantuser groups.

Trimble Access Sites

Within the Trimble Access software, a Trimble Connected Community site stores project informationincluding files to be used in the field.

27

Page 30: Trimble Access 2012 Helpfile

There are two types of sites that can be created within Trimble Connected Community:

a site for use with the AccessSync service. To send and receive files though a site, you must createthat site using the Create New Trimble Access Site wizard on the Survey Tools site. This wizardcreates and configures the site exactly as the AccessSync service requires.

a generic site for general/collaboration purposes. Use the Create New Site button in the Navigatorpanel to manually create a blank site and then manually add pages and content. You cannot useAccessSync to send and receive files with sites created in this way.

You can set up project sites to suit the size and number of projects that your company normally works on. Theoptions are as follows:

Single project sites: use one Trimble Connected Community site per project or job•

Generally, this option suits users who work on large projects for extended periods of time. Each userassigned to a project has a folder to store their data within that project.

Multi-project sites: use one Trimble Connected Community site for many survey projects orjobs

Generally, this option suits users who work on a large number of smaller jobs. The advantage is thatall field data is transferred to one site. Each user assigned to this multi-project site has a folder tostore their data within each project. If project folders are used in the General Survey application, eachproject folder appears under each field user, thus separating project data into folders.

Tips

Trimble recommends that you have just one Trimble Access Project site per organization tosimplify the learning process. You can manage multiple projects in multiple folders below theone site. As you become more experienced with the system, you can try using multiple sites.

When using multiple sites, create folders under the To the Field folder and then save files intothose folders rather than saving them directly under the To the Field folder. This makes iteasier for someone in the field to select the correct set of files to synchronize with when usingAccessSync.

Configuring the site is the same, regardless of how you want to structure the data.

Creating a New Trimble Access Project Site for use with AccessSync

To configure a new site and adds the components with the permissions that are required to transfer thecomponents with the AccessSync service:

Navigate to the Create new Trimble Access site wizard:1. From within Trimble Connected Community:♦

Browse to the Survey Tools site. If this is not your default site when you log in, clickAll Sites, browse to the surveyadministration organization and then click SurveyTools.

a.

28

Page 31: Trimble Access 2012 Helpfile

Navigate to the Create new Trimble Access site wizard page in the Survey Tools site.Typically, you must log in as the Site Manager, or be a member of theAllSiteManagers group to access this page.

b.

From within Trimble Business Center:♦ Click on TCC in the menu bar, then Trimble Access Services .1. Click Login and enter your Trimble Connected Community Member ID,Organization and Password.

2.

Click in the left hand panel.3.

Enter a title, short name, and description and then click Next.2. Select an existing group of users that you want to have access to the site, or tap Create new group andthen select the users from your organization that you want to be part of this group.

3.

Permissions are set using the Groups feature within TCC, so that every member of the grouphas access to the site.

The SiteManager member and AllSiteManagers group automatically have access to allTrimble Access Project sites.

If a user is a member of a group, they can see and use the site from within TCC and on thefield controller (in the login screen and within AccessSync).

To view and/or edit the members within an existing group, you can use the standard toolswithin the Trimble Connected Community; see managing permissions using groups . Whenadding or removing members from a group, remember that this group may be used in otherparts of your TCC organization - your action may affect permission levels elsewhere. Toavoid any issues with inadvertently altering access rights, Trimble recommends that youcreate a new group for each site.

You can use the Administration/Manage Groups option in the navigation panel to edit themembers of a group (and related permissions on a particular site).

For more information on managing groups, see Managing permissions using groups .♦ Click Finish to create the site.4.

Notes

By default, only the Site Manager has permission to view the Create new Trimble Access sitewizard page. The Site Manager can grant other users access to this page by adding them to theAllSiteManagers group.

Do not rename a Trimble Access Project Site. If you do, that site is no longer available in thefield for the AccessSync service to send and receive files.

The Trimble AccessSync Service

Transferring files with the AccessSync service

Use the AccessSync service to transfer job and related files between the Trimble Connected Community sitein the office and the controller in the field.

29

Page 32: Trimble Access 2012 Helpfile

The AccessSync service uses an Internet connection to transfer Trimble Access files. In the field, you must besuccessfully logged into the system using the Online mode, and have selected a current Trimble ConnectedCommunity project site to define where the files will be transferred to on the server.

For more information, see:

Transferring files from the field to the office• Transferring files from the office to the field• Transferring files between the Trimble Connected Community and Trimble office software•

When transferring files from the office to the controller in the field, some files types can be automaticallyconverted to the version required by the field controller.

Transferring files from the field to the office

The AccessSync service enables you to transfer files from the field controller into a Trimble ConnectedCommunity project site through an Internet connection:

Start the Trimble Access software.1. On the controller, use the Trimble Access Internet Setup tool to set up an Internet connection.2. Log in to the Trimble Access software. To ensure that the AccessSync service is set up correctly:3.

Select the Online login mode.♦ Use the correct Trimble Connected Community username (Member ID) and password.♦ Select the appropriate Trimble Connected Community site. This determines where your fileswill be synchronized.

On the controller, start the AccessSync service.4.

The AccessSync service provides information on the file transfer process in a tabular format; this isdescribed in more detail in the table below.

Column Description

Folder name

The names of the folders on the controller available to be synchronized with theTrimble Connected Community. The following folder names appear:- <username>- System files- Any project folders contained under the username folder.

The check box to the left of the folder name indicates the synchronization statefor the folder. For more information, see the table below in step 5.

Status Provides additional information on the file transfer process. The following states are available:- Idle, there are no files to transfer, or the folder is not selected to besynchronized.- x of y, x number of files have been successfully transferred out of a totalnumber of y files.

30

Page 33: Trimble Access 2012 Helpfile

Tap on the status to see the list of individual files that are being transferred. Theup/down arrows indicate whether the file needs to be sent/received. An up arrowindicates the file needs to be sent to Trimble Connected Community, a downarrow indicates the file needs to be downloaded from Trimble ConnectedCommunity.Tap on the priority field to set which files will be transferred and to give a file atransfer priority over another file, or change the priority of all files.

TCC siteThe Trimble Connected Community site to which files will be sent to andreceived from.

Additionally, the rows in the table change color to provide more information on the current state ofthe transfer process:

Green indicates that the folder is synchronized and that there are no other changes to betransferred.

Red indicates that there was a problem in transferring one or more of the files.♦ Set the check box for each folder as required. If the files to be sent are in a folder, the folder appearsin the list of folders; otherwise the files are sent to the username folder. Each check box has threepossible states:

5.

State Synchronization action

Files in the folder will be synchronized to the current Trimble Connected Communitysite. To stop synchronizing these files, tap this check box.

Files in the folder will not be synchronized to the current Trimble ConnectedCommunity site.To start synchronizing these files, tap this check box.

Files in the folder will not be synchronized because they are not assigned to thecurrent Trimble Connected Community site.To reassign the files to the current Trimble Connected Community site, tap thischeck box.

You can configure the Trimble Connected Community to email users when a file on the site isuploaded or updated.

6.

Notes

Once set up, the AccessSync service compares the files in the selected project folders on thecontroller with the current Trimble Connected Community site every 30 seconds. If there is a file onthe controller that does not exist on the site, or if the files are different, the changes are uploaded fromthe controller.

All files in the selected project folders are transferred from the controller to the current TrimbleConnected Community site.

Only *.fxl, *.rtd and *.log files within the Systems Files folder are transferred from the controller tothe Trimble Connected Community.

If there is no Internet connection, the files are transferred when a connection is made.• If the Internet connection is also providing GPS corrections, the GPS corrections take priority overfile upload.

31

Page 34: Trimble Access 2012 Helpfile

There is no limit on the amount of data that can be sent from the office to the controller in the field.• AccessSync will not attempt to send a file that is more than 8 MB.• To view more details about the AccessSync file transfer history, tap on the History softkey.• Tap the column headings to sort the table.•

If you do not require continuous data updates throughout the day, you can optimize the file transfer process:

At the beginning of the field session:1. Start the AccessSync service and then enable the check box for the folders that contain thefiles to be downloaded from the Trimble Connected Community.

a.

Once the files have completed synchronizing, clear the checkbox in the AccessSyncwindow to disable continuous file transfer.

b.

At the end of the field session:2. Start the AccessSync service and the enable the check box for the folders that contain thefield data to be sent to the office.

a.

Tip - The AccessSync service can use any kind of Internet connection to send files; Wi-Fi, cellular modem,or an ActiveSync technology connection. Depending on the bandwidth available, the synchronization speedwill vary. Typically, cabled ActiveSync technology connections are fastest, followed by Wi-Fi technology, and then cellular modems. To ensure the fastest transfer speed, use a cabled connection whenever available.

Switching Trimble Connected Community sites in the field

The AccessSync service transfers files to the current Trimble Connected Community site that you select onthe controller during log in. To change this site, log in again and select the appropriate site:

Start the Trimble Access software.1. On the controller, use the Trimble Access Internet Setup tool to set up an Internet connection.2.

Select the Online login mode.♦ Use the correct Trimble Connected Community username (Member ID) and password.♦ Select the appropriate Trimble Connected Community site. This determines where your fileswill be synchronized.

Transferring files from the office to the field

33

Page 36: Trimble Access 2012 Helpfile

The AccessSync service allows files to be transferred from a Trimble Connected Community project site tothe controller through the Internet.

To transfer files from the office to the field there are steps to be taken both in the office and on the fieldcontroller.

In the office

To transfer files from the office to the field, it helps to understand how the folders are structured.

The folder structure within the Trimble Connected Community project site is always the same:

Username•

A username directory is created for every user who logs in to the project. The AccessSync serviceuses the field login information to determine which user folder the field data should be sent to.

From <Controller Serial Number>♦ A From <serial number> folder is created when you log in to the Trimble Access software tostore data from that controller. All files and folders saved in the Trimble Data\<username>folder on the controller are synchronized when you select the folder in AccessSync.

If you log in to multiple controllers, you have multiple From <serial number> folders.

To the Field♦

The [To the Field] folder is used for sending files from the office to a particular field user. Allfiles within this folder are sent to this user when they log in to the Trimble Access softwareand then select the appropriate folder to synchronize.

Files in the [To the Field] folder can be sent to any controller that has the Trimble Accesssoftware, including the AccessSync service, installed. If you log in to multiple controllers, thefiles are sent to each of the controllers.

System Files◊

The [System Files] folder is used to send system type files from the office to aparticular field user. All files within this folder are sent to this user when they log into the Trimble Access software and then select the [Systems Files] folder tosynchronize. Files in this folder can be sent to any controller that has the TrimbleAccess software, including the AccessSync service, installed. If you log in to multiplecontrollers, the files are sent to each of the controllers.

For more information on which files are system files and need to be placed in thesystems files folder on the controller, see File management in the General Surveyhelp.

34

Page 37: Trimble Access 2012 Helpfile

Note - If you place a system file directly into the To the Field folder, the TrimbleAccess software detects it is a system file and moves it to the correct location on thecontroller.

To All Users•

The [To All Users] folder is used for sending files from the office to all users who log in on thecurrent Trimble Connected Community site.

Files in the [To all users] folder can be sent to any controller that has the Trimble Access softwareincluding the AccessSync service installed. If a user in the project logs in to multiple controllers, thefiles are sent to each of the controllers.

System Files◊

The [System Files] folder is used to send system type files from the office to all userswho log in on the current Trimble Connected Community site and select the [SystemsFiles] folder to synchronize. Files in this folder can be sent to any controller that hasthe Trimble Access software, including the AccessSync service, installed. If a user inthe project logs in to multiple controllers, the files are sent to each of the controllers.

For more information on which files are system files and need to be placed in thesystems files folder on the controller, see File management in the General Surveyhelp.

Note - If you place a system file directly into the [To All Users] folder, the TrimbleAccess software detects it is a system file and moves it to the correct location on thecontroller.

Each email addressshould be entered on a separate line. You can also use an asterisk as a wildcard, e.g.*@mycompanydomain.com will allow any user with an email address ending in"@mycompanydomain.com".

Select Save.5.

Tips

If, in the email address, a folder has spaces in it's filename, for example "To All Users", thenyou need to substitute "%20" for each space.

You can identify the name of a filespace used by an AccessSync site by:♦ Logging into Trimble Connected Community using your web browser and navigatingto the appropriate AccessSync site.

Select the "All Files" page◊ Click the configure gizmo option on the filespace gizmo◊ Click on the "My organization" tab (if it's not already selected)◊ The name of the filespace that the filespace gizmo is associated with will behighlighted.

Sending to the email address noted down in step 4. will get the file into the filespace. But ifyou want to send a file to a specific user or "All Users" without having to login to TrimbleConnected Community and move the file into the appropriate folder, then you'd need to sendto a modified address.

The address format is:

<tcc organization shortname>.<filespace>.<subfolder>@tccattachments.com

For example, if the name of your filespace is "northernroad" and you company TrimbleConnected Community shortname is "southernsurveys", then:

To send a file to "All Users", you would send tosouthernsurveys.northernroad.To%20All%[email protected]

Log in to the Trimble Access software. To ensure that the AccessSync service is set up correctly:1. Select the Online login mode.♦ Use the correct Trimble Connected Community username (Member ID) and password.♦ Select the appropriate Trimble Connected Community site. This determines where your fileswill be synchronized.

On the controller, start the AccessSync service.2.

Status

Provides additional information on the file transfer process. The following states are available:- Idle, there are no files to transfer, or the folder is not selected to besynchronized.- x of y, x number of files have been successfully transferred out of a totalnumber of y files.

Additionally, the rows in the table change color to provide more information on the current state ofthe transfer process:

Green indicates that the folder is synchronized and that there are no other changes to betransferred.

38

Page 41: Trimble Access 2012 Helpfile

Red indicates that there was a problem in transferring one or more of the files.♦ Set the check box for each folder as required. If the files to be sent are in a folder, the folder appearsin the list of folders; otherwise the files are sent to the username folder. Each check box has threepossible states:

3.

4.

An information alert in the task bar shows that a new file has been transferred to the controller.

Notes

Once set up, the AccessSync service compares the files in the selected project folders on thecontroller with the current Trimble Connected Community site every 30 seconds. If there is a file onthe Trimble Connected Community site that does not exist on the controller, or if the file on thecontroller changes, the new files are transferred.

If a different file of the same name already exists on the controller, the new file has (1) appended tothe filename to ensure that changes are not overwritten.

All files in the selected system and project folders are transferred from the current Trimble ConnectedCommunity site to the controller.

If there is no Internet connection, the files are transferred when a connection is made.• If the Internet connection also provides GPS corrections, the GPS corrections take priority over fileupload.

File Conversions

There are three methods of converting old job (*.job) and survey style (*.sty) files within the Trimble Accesssoftware suite:

Automatic File Conversions• Manual File Conversions• File Conversions during upgrade.•

Automatic file conversion

When transferring files from the office to the controller in the field using the AccessSync service, some filestypes can be automatically converted to the version required by the field controller. You must have purchasedTrimble Access services to use this service.

Automated file conversion happens "behind-the-scenes"; to use this service all you need to do is copy thefiles that require conversion to the appropriate folder within the Trimble Connected Community project siteand send the file to the field using the AccessSync service.

The following file types can be converted during a transfer:

File type File extension From version

Trimble Access job files, used by:- General Survey- Roads- Tunnels- Mines

*.jobTrimble Access system, version 1.0.0 andlater

Trimble Access template files *.jotTrimble Access System version 1.5.0 andlater

Trimble Access survey style files *.styTrimble Access system, version 1.0.0 andlater

Trimble Survey Controller job files *.job

40

Page 43: Trimble Access 2012 Helpfile

Trimble Survey Controller software, version11.00 and later

Trimble Survey Controller survey stylefiles

*.styTrimble Survey Controller software, version11.00 and later

If an unsupported version is sent to the field, or if the file conversion fails (for example, if the job iscorrupted), then the original file is sent with no conversion applied. When you attempt to open an unconvertedjob, an error message appears stating that the version is not supported.

Notes

Files are only converted when Trimble Access system version 1.4.0 or later is running on the fieldcontroller.

Files can be converted when they are placed in either the To the Field folder or subfolders, or in theTo All Users folder or subfolders on the Trimble Connected Community.

Manual file conversion

The manual file conversions is a freely available service hosted within the Trimble Connected Community. Itenables you to upload job or survey style files to a Trimble hosted server, select the version you wish toconvert to, and either save the files back to your local PC or directly onto your Trimble ConnectedCommunity organization for transfer to the field. The following table lists the file types that can be convertedto any later version, however you can not downgrade jobs to earlier versions using this service.

GNSS Forecast

Calculating satellite availability with the GNSS Forecast service

The GNSS Forecast service is a planning tool used to forecast suitability for GNSS surveying based onavailability of satellites and ionospheric conditions at a specified location.

It provides information on the availability of satellites in both the GPS and GLONASS satellite systems.

44

Page 47: Trimble Access 2012 Helpfile

To use the service:

On the controller, use the Trimble Access Internet Setup application to set up an Internet connection.1. From the Trimble Access menu, start the GNSS Forecast application.2. Tap Settings.3. Set the required details:4.

Enter the date and time.♦ Enter the latitude and longitude of your position.♦

Tip - To automatically complete the Latitude and Longitude fields using the currentautonomous position derived by the GNSS receiver, tap Here .

Select the required satellite system. You can forecast based on GPS, on GLONASS, or onboth.

Select the number of intervals (hours) that you want to forecast data for.♦ Enter the elevation cut-off.♦

Tap Ok.5.

The GNSS Forecast service contacts the Trimble hosted server to calculate the information. Theforecast returns the number of satellites and the ionosphere condition for each interval; thisinformation is summarized to show the suitability of the satellite conditions for surveying:

Good conditions

Difficult conditions

Bad conditions

The GNSS Forecast status bar shows the status of the data and the Internet connection availability.

Note - The performance of Trimble's GNSS equipment is dependent on the ionospheric conditions. Due tosolar eruptions the condition of the earth's ionosphere changes. High ionospheric activity can cause slowerconvergence times for Trimble's GNNS solutions and in extreme cases calculating a position may not bepossible. The Iono Index ranges from 1 to 10. The higher the number the more likely it is that your GNSSmeasurements are affected. The GNSS Forecast service will help you interpret that value. If it is too high itwill show a yellow or a red icon even if there are enough satellites visible.
