Page 2: Treatment

The unsigned band that we are using, are called “Ambush Creep”. To gain permission, we emailed them and they agreed. The band consists of 5 members; 2 girls and 3 boys, however in our music video production we are re-branding them by having only 3 boys. The track we have chosen “Sidewalk” only consists of the boys voices so this helps tie it in with our idea. The band are represented as very urban through their costumes for example, black jackets, simple plain t-shirts, trainers for the boys and boots for the girls. We will also try to represent out version of Ambush Creep in this way but a bit more funky and youthful so they can relate to the target audience.

Page 3: Treatment

We created a survey asking the audiences questions about what they think makes a good music video, what they most like in a music video and how they watch new music videos. When analysing the results I was able to connote who our typical audience is for example their socio economic grading, their hobbies and likes. Overall I connoted that our typical target audience member has a socio economic grading of a B or C as they like to wear chinos and snapbacks.

Our target audience are also laid back and like to enjoy life as it comes; their not serious and stressed about life. They like to be entertained the reason being one of their hobbies include going out with friends or taking part in sports such as basketball or football. They will also have a good sense of humour to get the feel of the music video.

The audience will most probably like listening to music genres of hip hop and R&B as well as

Pop.

We will appeal to our target audience by branding the band with bright colours and costumes such as trainers and jeans which the audience can relate to. We will use a graffiti style font on our Digipak and magazine advert which will denote the urban side to the band which the audience can relate to and maybe use the band as their idols, as they might want to be just like them.

Page 4: Treatment

After researching into 1 audience member which is typical of our stereotypical target audience , we know that he likes shopping at shops such as urban outfitters and topman, as he's typically dressed in trainers, snapbacks, shorts and a checkered shirt. He likes to play basketball and chill out with friends. He’s typical taste in music includes R’n’B, hip hop and also dub step. Harry’s favourite artists include Ed Sheeran and Kanye West, all connoting a typical urban teenager.

Page 5: Treatment

The concept of the music video involves 3 boys just fooling around in the streets, then they see a girl walk past. One of the boys falls in love with her and they all follow her to try and get her attention.

There will be a performance of the band which will be comical relating to the comedy theme in the music video. It maybe involves the boys breaking into a dance as their walking down the street or when their in the park.

The locations that we have decided to use are very urban locations such as the parks and skate parks, however we had also thought of using locations such as Oxford Street and Leicester square to denote a bit of style within the band, which the audience can also relate to as they like to be stylish within their clothes and where they go to hang out with friends.

We want to film the locations when their are no cars or other people walking so the audience only focus on the actors and understand what is happening in the narrative.

The costume for the actors will be funky and bright, again to relate to the branding in the Digipak and magazine advert. Each band member that we are using are going to wear a costume that represents their tastes for example the snapbacks and chino’s.

Page 6: Treatment

During post Production we want to show a lot of creativity for example when the scene opens ,we

want to show the actors pushing their hands up like their lifting something heavy. We will edit this to denote them lifting a black canvas up to reveal the scene. We also want to use a lot of fast cuts, which will cut to the beat denoting the music video flows with the song. We will also use fast fades at the beginning to build the tension but also reveal the scene shot by shot, enticing the audience to keep watching

There are many camera movements which I want to incorporate in the music video to make it interesting and at the same time comical. We also want to use shots such as long shots, close-ups and mid shots. We might also use a point of view shot and tracking to make it more interesting.

The Digipak will be a 6 fold as it is like a book all about the band which the audience would love to collect if they are big fans.

The colour palette for the Digipak will co-ordinate with the music video and magazine advert which will feature bright bold colours throughout the Digipak , to connote that the band are fun and outgoing, something which the audience can relate to. The Digipak being bright will catch the audiences eye as soon as they walk in the shop, resulting in them buying it. They will most probably then tell their friends about it through word of mouth, causing other people to buy it, increasing the sales.

Colour palette of bright green, yellow and orange used throughout the Digipak. It stands out, and attracts an audience.

On the back of the Digipak we will have the necessary information such as the barcode, and copyright information. This will be in a small font but the typography will relate to an urban theme. We will also have the track listing at the back of the Digipak to give information to the audience

Page 8: Treatment

On the front cover of the Digipak we will have the 3 boys who are in the band dressed in their costume of t-shirts, jeans, trainers and snapbacks. This image will be big and fill up the front cover of the Digipack.

The name of the band will be denoted in the typography of light-graffiti and the colour will be bright and bold, to connote the fast rhythm of the songs but at the same time making sure its easy to read. The boys will be photographed holding an invisible title between themselves which we will then edit the title in to the image, making it look realistic. The font of the title will be bigger than the actors themselves, connoting the comical side ofthe song.

On the inside of the Digipak we will have images of a scene from the music video which explains the narrative. The image will flow across the other folds in the Digipak as if it was one big image.

Page 9: Treatment

On one side of a fold inside the Digipak we will have images of the band members fooling around and having fun connoting that they enjoy every moment of life and make the most of it. This connotation might attract an audience who look up to the band to be like them.

The products inside the Digipak will include two discs. 1 disc will include the songs and the

second disc will feature behind the scenes footage of their music video and a behind the scenes footage of the bands photo shoot for the poster.

In the Digipak there will be a big poster of the band members and underneath the image there will be a denotation of each individual band members signatures. This will attract a mainstream audience who are big fans of the band, as the poster with signatures is like a bonus product, which the audience can usually only buy at concerts or get signed by the artist at premieres.

Page 10: Treatment

The magazine advert will include the same colour palette which we will use throughout the music video and Digipak; bright bold colours.

The typography of the bands name will be similar as the graffiti typography used in the music video and Digipak.

We will have a pack shot of the Digipak on the magazine ad in the corner, so the audience

know what the Digipak looks like

We will also have the copyright information and the music labels logo at the bottom of the advert as we want the audience to focus on the image and the band and not anything else.

We will also have relevant information for the audience such as the website where the audience can go and maybe download pictures of the band. This will attract an audience who are big fans of the band. We will also include information about when the Digipak will be available in stores and also maybe a date for the release of our music video on sites such as face book and you tube.

To film our music video, we are going to use a camcorder, tripod and steady cam. We will also have a digital camera on hand so we can take photographs of the process as well as the boys in their outfits for the ancillary products. There aren’t many HD cameras

available at school, so we will just use a normal camcorder so we don’t have the issue of filming bits and pieces of our music video in HD.

To edit, we will use a program on the i-Macs called Final-Cut and Photoshop. This will enable us to add any effects and put our shots in the order we want them to be in. We can also add appropriate cuts where relevant. For the ancillary products, the magazine advert and the Digipak we will take photographs of the boys together using a digital camera. We will then upload them onto Photoshop and edit in the typography so it looks as if they are holding it. We will also add any other relevant information that needs to be on the magazine cover, like barcode and record label.

Page 12: Treatment

As said before, we are re-branding the band by only using three boys. The three boys we have chosen all attend our sixth form Chadwell Heath Academy, and so it will be easy to keep in touch with them during school hours. We have chosen (from left to right) Lamar Mirander, Karim Campbell and Raphael Jegede . The main girl we have chosen is also from our school, in the year below, Sarah Smith. She took dance and is a camera-friendly person so she will be able to act how we want her to.

We plan to start filming by the end of this week. This will be during lunch times and free periods as well as after school, whenever me and my partner are free as well as our actors. Our main locations to film are Seven Kings park, outside our school and perhaps central London.

Page 13: Treatment

We have already gained permission from Ambush Creep to use their song for our A2 project and they have agreed to let us do this.

Me and my partner have organised shots and locations we are going to film. The only thing left to organise is times we are both available to film the music video and start producing the ancillary products. This will be easily worked out once we start filming an d we will then be able to tell our actors what is going on.
